While I believe the posters of this site have the class to refrain from a nasty flamewar the likes of which you speak, I don't think this thread will be a popular one. History might have seen you right, but this isn't going to be pretty.

 

Did you see Ryan play last year? Played kind of like Henne was this year (which is his 2nd year) and he had White, Gonzales etc...

There is no doubt he is the real deal, but he wouldn't be the same here. Even when the Falcons had the lead they stayed very aggressive on offense. We would have been satisfied with giving the ball back and playing defense.

If Henne fails to be the future, then yes you are 100% right.

 

i wanted ryan too but if your implication is henne is a bust you are way too premature. Henne is on pace to be our franchise QB. He's not there yet and he still has areas of his game to improve but he's progressing at the normal pace for young QBs. If the refs dont rob us in Pittsburgh he's probably still starting. The only reason he's being benched is because we have a seasoned vet, we're in the playoff hunt and every game is do or die. If this team would hve been able to carry Henne like the Jets did last year for Saanchez or the Ravens and Falcons were able to do for Ryan and Flacco in 2008, he would be starting. Unfortunately time ran out and our young team played like a young team in too many games so we had to go with the vet. This says nothing about his future, this is simply a case where we have decided to make a run for the playoffs rather than risk the season developing Henne. Henne will start 2011 regardless of how Pennington does this year imo

Really?!?!? I'm sorry, but Matt Ryan never got benched. Joe Flacco never got benched. Heck, Mark Sanchez never got benched. Henne got benched for a reason. He's just not that good.

That is ridiculous. Even with the idea that a QB is more important than an LT, Jake Long is so much better at his position than Ryan is that it isn't even close.

Jake Long is on pace to have a Hall of Fame career. Matt Ryan isn't going to make a Pro Bowl at this rate.

falcons -chris redman

henne got benched because unlike the ravens, falcons and jets this team couldnt carry him the way those teams could. that and the fact that the dolphins are the only team that had a legitimate backup to fall back on

You're right if you're comparing Matt Ryans first two years to Jake Long's, but if a guy who's projected (admittedly, the wheels could fall off) to throw around 4,000 yards , 30 TDs and 10 INTs isn't worthy of Pro Bowl consideration in your eyes I don't know who is.

Matt Ryan had virtually the same stat-line as Chad Henne like two weeks ago, and he's not exactly been consistent in his career?

 

Yet they stick with him because they understand the importance of developing a young QB. Something the Miami Dolphins know nothing about.

 

Around week 5 or so they were comparable, but Ryan has taken off since then. I'm not trying to compare the two, just noting that Ryan has really got his stuff together in the last month. I think he's playing at a Pro Bowl level.

 

Ryan is clearly the class of the 2008 draft class so far. Its not really about stats. The key is going to be how each QB improves as their careers continue. I think all three will have fine careers

 

You know nothing about me so don't even try to put me in that category. Am I the one screaming for Henne's head or am I screaming Sean Smith sucks or That Chris Clemons will never be any good. Hell no I'm not because I understand it takes time to develop young players. People like you think instant pro bowl right into the NFL. Henning isn't new here and yes I am screaming for his head. His system is old and worn out. Who runs the Wildcat on 3rd and 6. Do you watch the games? For all the banter that has went back and forth on the topic people seem to forget what was being said up until the guy was benched. First they were looking at Henning. Soon there was a crop looking at Sparano. There were even some looking at Ireland. Unfortunately, all of this attention does not go without notice.

So you reach a 4-4 record. You look around at the guys working hard that CAN win. You here those voices calling for your head. YOU (Sparano) are being patient with the kid. But the voices keep getting louder. So much so that you think at any given point a lynch mob may be standing outside the front offices at Davie waiting for Dan Henning to walk out. YOU are next.

It begins to feel like you are coaching Henne for the next guy. What would you do?

How did you feel about Mularkey?

 

I think Tony Sparano has invited much more job instability and or risk to himself by making this change than he did by not making it. I can't really say if he did so knowingly with the idea that the risk was worth the reward, or that he misjudged the situation.

 

We made the right choice.

 

thing is the Baltimore game was winnable and Henning didn't put Henne in a good situation to win the game. If you can't see that you are blind. Even Pennington himself said it wasn't Henne's fault. I think we get status quo on Sunday from Henning. He lost his mind last season and it never came back.
