The long rumored Notre Dame-Army matchup at Yankee stadium is now official. Sources close to RTGD reveal that the game will take place on November 20, 2010 — three years sooner than many anticipated.
In May, the New York Times made mention that Notre Dame had begun talks to play the first football game in the new Yankee Stadium. Irish athletic director Jack Swarbrick pointed to a historic matchup and 2013 date — the 100 year anniversary of the famed 1913 Army vs. Notre Dame clash as a good starting point for the new stadium.
“It would be of great historical significance for us if it would be Army,” Swarbrick said. “We would love that. Some of the most significant games in the history of college football involve those two schools and Yankee Stadium.”
