http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/bowls08/news/story?id=3821411 Anyone think it will happen in the next 10 years?? Or are we all going to never know for sure who is the best team in the country?
I seen the article and he does speak the truth. I think there could be a playoff, but I don't plan on seeing it anytime soon. However it looks like we are headed in the right direction
4 team playoff is all you need. I know greed will be a factor in trying to add another 2 or 4 to that number but it really would be unnecessary.
you need @ least the top 8 ranked teams to be truly legit. I'd love to see a Utah, Boise State or Texas Tech get a shot @ the MNC.
I honestly don't think 8 is enough personally...then the problem becomes 16 teams. They would have to start the playoffs mid-way through September
Okay, I'll play. Exactly how do you non-objectively select the 4 best teams? One thing you almost immediately have to do is select the 4 exclusive conferences to represent. That in itself ls pretty much impossible
I don't think greed is the biggest factor b/c CFB as a whole could make as much and probably more by simply including a playoff within the existing bowl structure. (although the big conferences do want to keep the smaller conferences out as much as possible). I think the biggest factor it that the colleges want to differentiate themselves from the pro game. Having a playoff makes them more similar to the pros.
Not saying its perfect but at least we would something better than whats in place now right? I mean last year we would have had Oklahoma v.s. USC Florida v.s. Texas It would have made for some great TV
then utah still has the same argument, nobody thought utah(except their fans) were top 4 before the bama game. they woulda got screwed out of that playoff too
I think 8 would be enough. I can't remember a season where anybody outside the top 8 was considered a legit contender for the best team in the country. Sure, the next group (8 - 16) would argue but the argument is just about whether they deserve to be in. It wouldn't be about whether or not they were the best.
