Most here know I like Henning, and believe he has done a VG job for our team over the past 2+ years. Many do not share my feeling, and want him fired.
I do not mean to beat this dead horse for the sake of the same opinions. This is different. I am asking who has done a better job as OC, over the last 2+ years with other teams.
I am also asking who you would replace him with? That's always a catch. When you fire someone, You need to replace them with another who is as good, or hopefully better.
This should be interesting.

Opinion on Henning is mixed. Here's one list of the 10 worst play calling OCs and Henning made that list.

cam cameron has done a great job in baltimore so far.don't care for him as hc but i wouldn't mind him as our o.c,doug marrone(currently syracuse hc)did a fine job for the saints, also marty mornhinweg from philly is a o.c i would not mind having instead of dan henning..i could go on but i think i have a word limit in post.
nice idea though,i'm not a henning fan but hadn't really thought about who i would replace him with.and if we don't do too hot this year i garuntee there wil be a change the next. -
Hah. Dan Henning is nowhere in that picture.

-Mike Martz
-Texans OC (Brian Shanahan?)
-Falcons OC
Thing is, I like Henning as well, I think what hurts his offense is the shuffling at Te and G-C-G, that is the cost of missing on the Nalbone and Groves of the roster.
WE do not have an H-Back and we do not have a true Movement Te, we cannot pass down the field to the Te and we cannot simply run block that is why I'm pinning some hopes on Mickey Shuler panning out from Day 1. -

Eh, I like Henning so I just roll them up there..:D
I'd really like to see Shuler turn into a pancake creating H-Back type, that would be such a boon to the offense, but if he doesn't work out Deon Anderson is out there.
To be blunt, Henning's offense is NOT designed to have 1 Te, it just isn't. -

9) dan henning
10) bruce arians
11) ken whisenhunt
12) josh mcdaniels
13) marty mohrniweg
14) bob bratkowski
15) mike martz
16) brian schottenheimer
17) rick dennison (gary kubiak)
18) darrell bevell (brad childress) -
Now one thing I don't like about Henning is he has not developed new, effective wrinkles for the WildCat, he was given the keys to David Lee's idea and he ran it into the ditch, teams such as NYJ and Broncos have been far more creative than Henning.smahtaz likes this. -

It is kinda funny that OC's mentioned were Mularky and Cam. Both got as much, if not more, grief on play calling than Henning.
I agree that there are better OC,s than Henning but, none I see available to take his place. Getting rid of a coach or player because of what you believe to be a problem is easy. Getting someone better is not as easy. -

They amounted to:
-1 option play
-1 deep overthrow to Ted Ginn
It came out at a Henning presser that they were afraid to let White run the ball and I just threw my hands up in the air, they drafted the man specifically for the Pat Cat, you'd think if they had reservations they would have expressed those prior to bringing White into Miami.
McAdolescent's use of the Wild Horses formation with the Qb starting out as if he was going to be under center was a simple and effective wrinkle..we never saw it used in Miami. -
one of the biggest things i don't like about henning is his lack of creativity in getting the ball to his playmakers in differnt ways and one example of that (i know right?how can the wc not be considered creative?)is the lack of passes to ronnie we see.great hands for a rb being underutillized.even in the wc it is 98% of the time a run up the gut or trying to bounce it outside with ronnie/ricky.
cam does a pretty good job of utillizing the weapons he has in many different ways and i like that in a o.c and the lack of it in our offense besides the o-line and henne's growth as a starting qb is one of the reasons it is sputtering..our offense has become as vannila as our defense had been for so many years in the past and very predictable even with the wc. -

If Henning is replaced who will be the next OC to be hated should be the question....
Give me an offensive coordinator that bases his system from Don Coryell and I'd be content to give him a try.
Oh wait! Henning fits that bill. There are more times than not that I like Henning but I do tend to think he outsmarts himself too often. -

The Ravens just had the ball 3rd and goal from the 2 and Cam Cameron called two straight passes. Both were incomplete. Ray Rice had rushed for 6 yards on 2nd and 8 to get them to the 2. Glad to see that Henning isn't the only coordinator who sucks in the red zone. We all knew Cameron sucks, but still.

Opening up the offense is fine and dandy, but when you're five yards from tying the game against one of the league's top passing defenses it's time to pull the ball on the ground and power in the end zone. It's hard to fault Henning in the two games we won (even though after our week 3 performance it's obvious those two games could have been blowouts), but we can definitely fault him for our week 3 loss.
Henning seems to be a man of extremes..either we're running or we're passing. Stop the Wildcat three times and we won't use it again. Pressure Henne into a few incompletions and we won't try to go deep again that day. We have a very balanced offense, but a very inbalanced offensive coordinator. -
-
Williams had the ball stripped on a great defensive play...that's a far cry from saying he shouldn't be on the field. I know Madden doesn't teach you that, but it's true. -
Well, although i have nothing against Henning, I would be a turncoat if I didn't say that I wish we didn't run the ball more.
If the argument is that we cant run the ball, then that is different :tongue2: -

Do I fault Marshall? Heck no. Do I fault Henning for not paying attention? Yup. 1st down should have been Polite right up the gut, let Marshall catch his breath, then hit in on 2nd down. If Polite picked up 2-3 yards, then maybe repeat the call for the first down...plenty of options other than the fade pass to the gassed WR.....it was not the perfect call by a longshot.texanphinatic likes this. -
