Just thought it was appropriate to fire this baby off seeing as we know who 1/2 of the teams are :hi5:

With the way the rotation has gone, looks like Cliff Lee will be able to pitch 3 games in the World Series if it goes 7 games.

Would prefer to see the Phillies as the other team in the WS as the travel days to SF would really stretch this thing out.
Besides, the Rangers and Phillies can both mash, and if the Rangers win, Jerruh Jones will poop himself..more than usual..and that is a good thing.:up:azfinfanmang likes this. -
Always been a West type of guy.
Always like seeing new teams in.
Would LOVE to see Lee ~VS~ Dazed and confused stoner dude
I need more insight to that freaky beard that the Gints reliever has. Pretty sure its from one of those late night infomercials. The one that shows hair instantly sprayed on? -

ROFLMFAO
He's a certified ninja? This guy is out of bounds -
National League has Home Field advantage this time around.
The team with the smallest discrepancy is indeed the Phillies.
They were 52-39 at home and a very nice 45-36 away.
The Gints were 49-32 at home and a 43-38 away
The Rangers were in between being 51-30 at home and 39-42 away, however, they have faired much better away during the playoffs. -
AZ..you gettin' kinda hyped over this WS?
-
Alrighty. Let's go Giants. Take care of business.

fox must be mad. two years ago they had the lowest watched world series when it was philly vs tampa. anyone think this might be even less watched then that one?
-
Well, Texas is a huge market and Philly is as well.
I'd think by now there are some bandwagon Philly fans who don't like the Yankees and the Mets are just a bad team. -
I'm going Rangers in this thing. Not much of a baseball fan till NLCS and WS.
Great thread!
Plus watching two bouncing Csonka heads on the screen at once is helping my buzz. :lol:azfinfanmang likes this. -

Center Fielder for the World Series headed Texas Rangers.
Would LOVE to sit and talk with this kid. The stories he could tell would be intriguing.
Everytime the Rangers have celebrated something (Winning American West, First round of playoffs, and Division champs) the team celebrates with Ginger Ale instead of champagne and beer (I know they all go off drinking afterwards, but I'm talking right after the game) all in respect for Josh and what his life has been.

Josh Hamilton is a fascinating story, one of the best sports stories in the last decade.

That story has never left me. Its really easy for me to cheer him on...and hope....and pray that he doesnt ever put himself back in that position again. -
let us see what the experts say
The Yankees have been eliminated from World Series contention, and the Fall ratings prospects for Fox just took a tumble. Fox is already down 12% vs. last season in their adults 18-49 ratings and as Robert noted, they face likely further year to year ratings declines now with the World Series almost certain to be down year to year.
In the 21st century for World Series average viewership to break 20 million, it requires the Yankees or the Red Sox. Although in 2000 & 2009, even the Yankees couldn’t average over 20 million.
Last season, the Yankees / Phillies World Series viewership was up sharply from the rain plagued 2008 series between the Rays and the Phillies across the board in all ratings demographics +38% among M18-34 (6.5 vs. 4.7), +37% on M18-49 (7.8 vs. 5.7), +32% in M25-54 (8.7 vs. 6.6), +46% in A18-34 (5.4 vs. 3.7), +41% in A18-49(6.2 vs. 4.4), and +36% in A25-54 (6.8 vs. 5.0). It was the largest year to year household ratings % increase in history.
I don’t think the NL opponent makes much difference at all to ratings this year. At this point, all Fox can hope for to salvage its ratings is a long series. That both typically boosts viewership in the later games, and adds more multi-hour highly rated games to their ratings averages. A seven game series without the Yankees is likely worth more to ratings than a four game series with the Yankees, but this season the latter is no longer an option.
We’ll have a “guess the World Series ratings/ viewership” post once the NLCS is over.

But to me, for the health of MLB teams like the Rangers and Rockies and Rays have to make it to the World Series just as a payoff for fans.
Look at places like Baltimore, that used to be a baseball town..it no longer is.adamprez2003 likes this. -
So, this makes the World Series less important?
Sorry, but those billionaires owning sports stations (Like YES) can absolutely BITE ME.
Its called the World Series for a reason. They didn't name it Doyankcubphilly Series on purpose. -

its amazing that world series were getting 40 million thirty years ago and now they can barely break 20 million. i mean even the worst world series game is better then anything else on tv (except for football)

As for less important of a WS..I will say this:
I find it odd that when I look on youtube for MLB highlights of Tony Gwynn or Pete Rose...there is nothing to be found..to me that is not good as a general health of the sport barometer.adamprez2003 likes this. -
It used to be watched across the Country. Now its only in select "Big Markets" who's teams are in it year in and year out. :wink2:adamprez2003 likes this. -
I don't get why people care so much about ratings. IMO, I like seeing different teams there. And as long as it's a damn good series, ratings are meaningless to me.

Well, that is a chicken or egg type of deal AZ, I do think MLB maybe over expanded and that is why even great teams like the Rays have problems drawing fans to the stadium let along on the Tube.
One thing I think is lacking in MLB is just that toughness that used to mark the sport, I used to love to hate Pete Rose, or Jeff Leonard, or the Dodgers.azfinfanmang likes this. -
