Thank goodness, I turned it off last night thinking we were going to be swept. Leave it to the Braves to take a series against the Phils and then come home and make the Nats look like an offensive juggernaut.
Seems like the Nats have our number the last 3 yrs or so. McLouth in the 8 hole in the lineup also finally has found his grove in Atlanta.
Two series wins against Philly in ten days. Not bad. I didn't think they were ever going to win a game against Halladay.
What a terrible road trip so far. These guys are too good to be having these struggles so often. I read an article the other day indicating that teams under .500 on June 1st rarely make the post season. I think it was maybe 7 or 8% of the time. History is overwhelmingly against them. Unless the Bravos pick it up they may find themselves in danger of being one of those teams after the next week or so.
Good win yesterday to salvage something from the road trip, couple guys on the DL though, McLouth, J-Hey.
Yeah Brooks is clutch in those late inning pinch hitting situations for whatever reason. Those guys might as well spend some time on the DL with the way they were hitting lately. Maybe they can do a little work with the hitting coach. In other news we can't catch a break with the Phillies. They finished off the Reds in 19 innings last night with backup second baseman Wilson Valdez on the mound. He got the heart of the Reds order out and was apparently hitting 90 with his fastball. He also has more wins now in the last two seasons than JoJo Reyes.
Craig Kimbrel's life would be so much easier if he could learn to hit the strike zone on a regular basis. Can JJ keep this up and put himself in the Cy Young picture?
Last yr Nate McLouth just could not get going in Atlanta, this yr it is Dan Uggla, what is it about young Vets who come to Atl at the height of their careers and just bomb in their first season? JJ has been our ace this season, we should name Kimbrel "gasoline".
That might have been the hardest homer I've seen Chipper hit in years. Man he killed that thing. He always knows how to give the fans in NY a little something extra.
braves are now in second place, one game up on the marlins who they are playing lol....... *knock on wood* Hopefully they play well this series. So do you guys want to start a betting pool to see when uggla will show up and play?
That may be the first time I've ever seen the Braves get two hit and win a game. I have no idea about Uggla. As it stands right now we moved Prado to left field so that we could field the worst hitting 2nd baseman in MLB. Or the worst hitting guy at any position for that matter. What's happening to Uggla is uncanny.
I'm out of town and can't watch the games but it seems Jonny Venters became human last night. I almost didn't believe my eyes when I saw his name in the loss column on ESPN's recap. His ERA has skyrocketed up to 1.30.
About uggla: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110626&content_id=21035470¬ebook_id=21035950&vkey=notebook_atl&c_id=atl
Good to see some Uggla production though we still need that average up to .250 or so. I think we've got the Mariners and O's up next so hopefully we take those two series. We just caught the Pads at a bad time, right after they went to Boston and humbled the Sox a little. Man I want JJ to win the Cy Young this season.
That series went even better than we could have hoped for. No small feat to beat Seattle's three best pitchers.
Still plenty of ball left to be played.............having said that you guys better start showing up to games soon lol
What's new, Chipper has already given us more than I expected this season but hopefully it's nothing more than the usual.
I'd rather see Philly streaking now than their usual September run. Of course all of their fans have probably made their World Series plans by now.
I still think Chipper is pretty important to the team. I also think Mac is ready to take his place as the icon player when he does retire. I thought Chipper was done last August but not only did he come back he has mostly produced.
JJ coming up big the other night: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/The-Juice-Jair-Jurrjens-wows-again-shuts-out-O?urn=mlb-wp11352
Damn. It's amusing. been a Braves fan my whole life. The 2.5 years I get to live in Atlanta, they stink, then I move up to Boston and they start getting exciting again. I don't really miss Atlanta as a city, much prefer Boston. But I do really miss going to Braves games several times a year. I refuse to go to a Red Sox game for the prices they charge.
Nice depth on this team, with Schaffer, Conrad, Hinske, McLouth, as well as Ross and they have not missed Praeto, and what I really like about this team is Freddie is not afraid to send a runner to steal a base, that used to drive me crazy about Bobby Cox and always playing for the 3 run HR.
I moved to Augusta, GA in 2006, the first year since I was in fifth grade that Atlanta DIDN'T win the division. I attended a handful of games every season. Right up until last August when I moved for work. Less than two months before Atlanta made their post season return. I feel your pain. Now my only option are the Nats or the O's. In other news, Craig Kimbrel just broke Papelbon's record for saves before the All-Star Break.
Speaking of Freddies, Freddie Freeman has been on a complete tear at the plate over the past couple of weeks or so. His performance and his ability to stay healthy may soon cause his star to eclipse J-Hey's in Atlanta and elsewhere.
Prado should be back after the all star break. Good news as long as they keep progressing. All we need now is for uggla to get his head out of his butt and we're good to go........
I'm wondering how this series against the Phails is going to go. They have their best on the mound but we're not putting JJ or Huddy up there. We will have Hanson out at least.
