Eh, fun stuff M979! Was listening in on the radio and watching a CFL game (Chris Williams, from 09 preseason fame, will win the CFL ROY) and when Gonzalez had the HR stolen from him by the mets OF, I knew what was going to happen.
If we win the two weekend games we should get the game we lost yesterday back. I don't see Philly getting swept.
Holy smokes, Chipper flubs a easy grounder, and Infante hits it out of the park. 1 strike away from winning.
I'm trying my best here. They have been borderline awful this month. There could be hope if the Cards have any teams that care about winning on their schedule now. And if we can go back to dominating the Marlins like we've done almost all season. We need to take two wins off of them. They need to go out like the season depends on these wins. If Kimbrel gets a save opportunity tonight he should be good and pissed off and throwing 100 or so.
You need to call some more wins. St. Louis' remaining schedule is a joke BTW. Cubs and Astros after this series. Of course it's the Cubs and Astros...
Not that easy bro! Radio guys were complaining about "the football lights", pathetic, Chipper blew it on that ground ball, I hate it when announcers make excuses for players like teenage girls. As for tonight, I think we win, then lose the last game, we split this series. Watch, the Cubs will take a couple from the Cardinals.
Atlanta is off thursday. Today is the last game against the Marlins. Tommorrow is when the Cardinals either lose or makeup the other 1/2 game they're currently missing. I'm skeptical about tonight because Derek Lowe is pitching. He's facing Javy Vazquez who has been very good over the past month or so. The playoffs have already started for the Braves, they can ill afford to lose more than another game or two.
Likely only a one and a half game lead after tonight. The Cardinals can't lose and we're clueless at the plate. And that's while getting a rare quality start from Derek Lowe. If it isn't one thing it's another. By Saturday they'll be looking up at the Cardinals.
The Braves were 9.5 up with how much games left? I still think the Mets blowing a 7 game lead with 17 left is nearly untouchable.
The simple facts are, they lost their #2 and #3 starters right when they needed them most. That had a dominoe effect, because not only do you lose those two guys, you replace them with 21 and 22 year old rookies. Not only that, because you lose those guys, its not likely the rookies replacing them are gonna go deep in games. Therefore, your bullpen has to pick up the slack. Then you see the two best relievers in the league blow games back to back days. They've actually blown 4 games in the past two weeks. If they're rested, maybe they only blow 1 of those games, then you're up 4 1/2 (or more because you presumably get better starts from Tommy and JJ) and there's the Magic number is only 3. So its nowhere near the collapse of the Mets, given the circumstances.
It was still August when they were 9.5 up. It's the perfect storm of injuries and the Cardinals never playing teams that are either a) good or b) trying to win the game. We basically have Tim Hudson, Brandon Beachy, and a AAA rotation. They're great prospects but too young to have the kind of impact we need.
Ironic that the Boston Red Sox, and the Boston Braves are collapsing at the sametime.....maybe the sports God said enough with the Boston area dominance... seriously though, that is ALOT of pressure the Braves are dealing with night in and night out with all those young kids playing MAJOR roles in this race....
I can't be too upset, given the future still looks pretty Damn bright. Kimbrel and Freeman were awesome this year, and our rookie pitchers also look promising. Also, I know Heyward was hurting more than we know, though he's really picked it up the last couple weeks. And hey, this thing ain't over yet. We do get the Nationals this weekend. (yes, I know the Gnats give the Braves fits)
It was a positive season for sure. These guys are probably still going to win 90 or more games, you can't really say that's a bad season even if it doesn't quite get us where we wanted to be. We had hoped Freeman and Kimbrel would make an impact, they knocked it out of the park. J-Hey disappointed but I think an offseason is going to do him very well. We have the talent base to be a force in the NL for years to come. Brandon Beachy has been as good as we had hoped for and things look bright for Teheran, Minor, and Delgado. A few offseason moves to help offensive production and we will be able to seriously threaten the Phillies. If the Cardinals get this postseason berth this year, good for them I guess. They're about to lose Pujols, we're a team on the rise. I was initially angry about this collapse but I'm at peace with it now. The Nats up here in DC will take two of three from us. They were doing that when we were playing well and healthy. I anticipate we'll lose the wild card lead by the end of this weekend at the latest. The Cardinals have a joke schedule and are playing well on top of that.
It's not crazy, the Nats are not the bottom feeders they used to be. They have some talent and can play pretty well for stretches. They are always a pain in Atlanta's rears. I don't anticipate that changing this weekend.
When you are in a tailspin the opponent doesn't really have to be 'good'. Unless we can somehow get our schedule switched to seven games vs Houston we're in trouble. I haven't checked ESPN but I know we can't hit Lannon worth a crap and we may end up with strasberg on the mound against as well even though they'll yank him after five innings tops.
Five runs in the ninth... they are human after all. I'll count my lucky stars if the Braves' season isn't over a week from today.
Maybe they're wearing out. They've been keeping up quite a pace to get this close to us. They're not playing good teams from here on out but they are playing rivals who will want to help them fall short. I'll take whatever we can get. Two full games up now.
The weather is terrible here. They're going to have a hard time getting this series played this weekend.
Cards lost. Magic number is 3 now. Things have really made a turn for the better the past couple of days. I heard on MLB network that something might have been wrong with Huddy. We can't afford that. If it's minor they should be able to rest him a little, two more wins probably gets the WC taken care of.
Hmm, we went up like 5-2 and I turned to a CFL game so IDK if Huddy is fine or what, do know the announcers were commenting on how poor the mound was after the rain. 3 games with 5 games to go? So if we win tomorrow and the Cards lose, I believe that salts away the WC?
If we sweep this weekend and the Cards lose one more we're in. We can't clinch tomorrow. ESPN says Huddy just had cramps. They took him to the hospital to hydrate him and get the cramps worked out. Doesn't seem like a big deal. It's unusually humid up here right now so I'm not surprised. I was sweating bullets just throwing batting practice for my daughter's softball team yesterday evening. Tommy Hanson had a setback in his rehab. Not good news at all. I hate it that we're limping into the end of the season again. We're going to need some young pitchers to step up in a big way to have any October success. Especially if we draw the Brewers and that bigtime offense.
The seesaw continues. A real wasted opportunity today against a pitcher that we've had success against in the past. I don't know what the hell Chipper is thinking but unless there are RISP he's pretty much guaranteed to swing at the first pitch he sees and get an out. He's been doing that a ton. Today, down three leading off the ninth he should know better. Now we know at least one game in the Phillies series will mean something. That means they'll ramp it up a bit. They haven't won all week, since they clinched the division.
Well the Braves and the Sox have almost completed their epic collapses. And the Dolphins are a joke. FML.
Starting Derek Lowe was an idiotic decision. Idiotic. They will not make the postseason and it will in part be because of Freddie's refusal to remove Derek Lowe from the rotation over the past couple of weeks or so. Even if they win tonight they would likely have to go to Busch stadium for a tiebreaker, that's an automatic loss for them.
