agreed...to have 3 games be so close (STL rolled) but each with the drama and heroics (or goats). Fun night.

Wow, Longoria with walk off HR.

    Amazing night...

from two chances for 1 game playoff to none....HOU not so much (STL) and TB advance....ATL and Saux packing it in.

It was a amazing day for baseball fans. I loved it and just think if mob had the two wild card team it would all would have been useless.

I like the AL matchups....Yanks vs DET and TB vs TEX should be really interesting. NL too, PHI vs STL and MIL vs AZ all have compelling story lines and pressure.

Ehhh, no biggie....Colon could be left off the playoff roster this round completely....and AJ could come out of the pen. 5 game series...all depends on games 1 and 2 before its relevant.

Wow I think it is pretty clear, they didnt want the Sox to win....

Also if somebody can find Shaunessy's "prediction" during the rain delay on NESN, dude it is PRICELESS....the Yanks were up 7-0, and he goes "Well the worst case is the Sox will play tomorrow" but meanwhile him and Whitney keep looking off screen (at the Yankee game)...and Heidi goes "not so fast Shaun, it is 7-2, and the way this season is going you never know"....he literally shrugs her off, and said they are playing tomorrow WORST case, and there is now way that Tampa can come back.....

I think the curse is back....

If you read lips, thats not the impression I got. They were pulling for Sox, and with the TB homer, a lot of "WTF are you kidding me!" left Dan's, and Harold's lips.

Yup, and the reaction to the Crawford sliding drop and score, forced Harold off the stage, and he came back with #$%^&s....

If I had to wager, they were pulling for a 1 game playoff....once that went out the window with Longoria HR it was shock....but they probably wanted Yanks to pull it out once Sox lost. Thus giving Sox one more chance...or atleast another fun night of BB.

Dan P. totally went with a "You Gotta be F'ing Kidding me" with TB win.

so bad, so bad, so bad......

(I just wonder if S.C. will be shelved, as you can imagine now how the parody will be sung by visiting fans in a taunting fashion too)....well one can hope...:tongue2::lol:

Also, I dont know if the CURSE is back.....but seems the NATION is in for some slumbering times ahead......and Yanks farm system could continue to beef up the MLB roster for seasons ahead. Kudo's to Cashman and scouts....lots of arms building for the future, and enough bats to fill in where a few FA cant, etc. Nice formula going!

This season has been a nice building block of success to date....the playoffs are icing to see where any cracks remain. Its a nice litmus test; and since we are in it....we can win it...but not 100% sure we have the perfect mix. If we work the count and get the pitch counts up, with mixing in 2out hits, etc I am satisfied based on weaknesses I knew we had going into the season. Will be nice to see Nova, and the pen this round.

All begins with CC in game one, matching Verlander and seeing how fast we can get to Det Pen.

lets see if the perennial choke artist keep it up....Teixeria, and Swisher....dude if they get anything out of those 2, they are going to roll this series...

Sweet Caroline was dumb anyway if you ask me but I doubt they retire it.

I think you may be overstating the state of the Red Sox though. Yes they choked in September but they have 50 million coming off of the books and the core of their team will be back next year. I truly believe if Youkilis and Buchholz didn't go down the Sox would have made the playoffs. Things can change pretty quick in baseball as we've seen this year. I wouldn't write off the Sox just yet for next year.

yep, they aint going anywhere.....it took, major players getting hurt, and a HISTORIC collapse for them to miss the playoffs by 1 game....now the thing is who is making the decisions, and will they make the right ones.....

    RF, you want Reyes??

I will say for all the West Coast Mid-Sept, weird scheduling quirks, the Yankees usually always get the primetime spots...time to get irate and drunk boys!!!

ahhhhh here it comes.....blind loyalty, even in the face of consistent failure.....cuz you know there isnt any option on the bench who nobody knows how to pitch against.....aka Montero...

he needs to stop overthinking this sh%t......

I'd love to have Reyes however not for the money he's likely to get. Add to the fact he's a speed guy and has had bad hammys for a few seasons now and can't seem to stay healthy I'll pass.

Montero off the bench is better in many regards than Jorge...so, let Jorge gets his cuts from the left side against the righty's....I like it. Someone is guilty of overthinking it, but its not Joe G.

i'll say that this really isnt one of our stronger teams but I kind of like the grittiness of the team. I'm expecting some luck in these playoffs. I fully expect God to come down and help Jeter and Posada ride off into the sunset with another ring

Feel the same about the team - the near future is so much brighter; but if in it...they can win it....dont know about story book endings, but Yankees Magic never hurt before. Always good when its along for the ride.

you have ANY faith Posada is touching Verlander.....who knows exactly how to pitch him, which isnt really that hard anymore anyways......why not give the kid who you know has been producing a shot to drive a ball somewhere in the gap if in the advent Verlander makes a mistake.....as opposed to Posada's bloop single at best.....

but hey Jorge's numbers arent bad against Verlander so we will see.....I am ready to see some bats stay alive BDH, cuz these good hitters as you call them will always hit....lets get it!!

I am not burying them, right away anyway....just think this offseason will be quite telling on their future.

    Tito?
    Wakefield?
    Varitek?
    Drew?
    Papelbon?
    Ortiz?

And that's not all of the FA decisions facing Sox, but these above are some significant (FACE of the FRANCHISE) type moves could/will happen. And in and of itself thats not always a bad thing....I stated Torre had become stale and the Yankees needed new blood, new face, new mindset. It took the ending of a Stadium and a re-birth of a new one to inject vigor.

Sure, Sox could follow suit and reinvent themselves, but aside from who you lose, it comes down to who returns from Injuries and steps up. Ellsbury did it; but I suspect being younger and not suffering major OLD AGE injuries played a role. Can Youk? heck can he be an everyday 3B, or is he DH. I suspect Buchholz has a chance, but Arms with any bodily injury can impact motions and cause other injuries. Same with DiceK.

Also, who gets signed with that $50M off the books? You yourself are upset with some of the FA signings, and HIGH-RISK guys; has Theo learned a lesson? So this offseason, with your best and brightest in the farm system several seasons away, 2012 may not be any brighter than 2011. I dont think the hype (unless you go after Reyes) will be higher than it was in 2011 following Gonzo and CC as signings and expectations.

I do think NYY has some bright arms ready to make the leap next year and fill in the rotation gaps that Colon and Garcia plugged in well-above-expectations. Same with Bullpen, getting Joba back too, etc. New year, new excitement.....this offseason....it will be What will Boston Do to rebound?

Cause you know the minute Pitchers and Catchers report, it will be weeks of, can Boston overcome the feeling of the worst decline ever in baseball history! Heck, any lead will bring the questions throughout the regular season as Sept makes its presence. Good times....good times.:tongue2:
