Enjoy ARod for the next 6 years while he's making 143 million during that time. He's going to be 36 next year and hasn't play 140 games in a single season since 2007. He's the definition of a contract burden.

I actually do think FinYank makes a good point, that this team has a lot of older players, especially the position players with no one in their minor leagues who's close to being ready to help the big club.

2012 is not the next 6 years. It does have "some" older players, but Cashman also has it set up to inject "significant youth" in many spots.

The only three OLD question marks of IMMEDIATE concern are JETER and AROD really. Mo doesnt count in his role (and he seems AGELESS). But for 2012 we are not Burdened, and thats how Cashman views it - hard to argue with that success.....with trades and FA this team can get UN-BURDENED long before 6 years roll around. Who is a position player of AGE with no one to fill in a hole for 2012???

Going after #28 in 2012 no burden will be felt (barring INJURY which I 100% agree is potentially correlated to AGE - but not always). I think come Pitchers and Catchers and by the end of ST, this 25-man team will take significant shape toward YOUTH with only 3 AGED players.

So you don't think ARod's 29 million he's going to make next year is a burden for the 2012 team? Between his health, age and decline in performance I'd be plenty worried about him. And that contract might lead the Yankees to trading Montero this off season.

And which young players does Cashman have to inject "significant youth" in many spots? Besides Montero I don't see any position players who are ready to take that step to help out in 2012.

In 2012 from a Bats standpoint, Montero and Romine will be fine (defense from Romine over bat but better than Cervelli). We dont need BATS to be ready in 2012 beyond these two.

That's just it, 2012 is what should be viewed, and the B-Team will have the greatest impact.

Beyond 2012, everything else can be resolved at its proper time. Arod in 2012 is not the CONTRACTUAL burden. His health will be far more important then his Contract. Jeter has been buried at least twice, and seems to RISE from the asses (ashes :tongue2:) each time dirt is started to be thrown on him. Again, 2012 is not the issue for this Franchise, and I stand by my view that this franchise in 2012 is positioned for #28 more than any other franchise in MLB. Look around at others you would think about...and frankly I would potentially place TB up there if they get more consistent daily lineup and bat thump...but will see....TEX has significant Arm questionmarks....PHI has AGE too in several MORE places. Sox?? dont think so.

Go around AL and NL and I see Yanks as one of the FEW with MANAGEABLE items of concern. Granted, I am trusting the B-Team to step up....and I would concede that its easier said than done. But I just feel comfortable right now. Far more then say 2009!

Regarding the bold part: I won't go for the easy joke there. Nor am I trolling because of a typo, just thought it was funny when I read it the first time.

Anyway like I said in the Playoff thread, there are no dominate teams in baseball this year and in the last few. Every team has flaws and we can spend tons of time going team by team picking them out. But it would be rather silly since we don't even know which each team's roster is going to look like on March 1st.

I wasn't saying the Yankees with their roster heading into 2012 right now aren't in a good position. What I'm saying is that there has to be question marks about the current roster especially with the age of certain players in key spots. Again though you can say that about the other 29 teams too.

I could easily see the Yankees winning the AL East again in 2012 just as easily as I could see them missing the playoffs because the AL East is such a tough division. The only thing I will say is I think you're making a major mistake sleeping on the Red Sox. Yes right now they don't have a manager and possibly a GM and they're coming off of a historical collaspe but they still won 90 games (while missing the playoffs by 1 game) and still have their core offensive players in tact and also have a strong 1-3 in the rotation. Again assuming health like you said. Like the Yankees, I can just as easily see them winning the East just as I can see them missing out on the playoffs again. Ditto for Tampa Bay. And I'm not giving up on the Blue Jays either, they can be a huge sleeper. I mean right now you'd have to make the Yankees the favorites to win the division but I don't think it's an automatic cake walk.

 well, those that throw the dirt come off as them.....can I call a Freudian on that one!

I can accept the rest....its always fun to see how things take shape. Rather be Yanks currently than any other franchise in the jostling for position right now. Not sleeping on Sox....but they have lots of decisions (far more than several other clubs) before I see what takes the field in 2012.

Frankly, I thought without the injuries the 2010 team for Saux, was better CLUB then 2011. Beltre and Youk, from 3B and 1B seems to be (granted seems) a better combo than Youk and AGon from 3B and 1B perspective. I still give Crawford the benefit of the doubt, but that wasnt really a need that had to be solved.

What is a small concern, even with the benefit of the doubt, is how I thought the signing of Crawford with AGon was perfect match to take pressure off both for 2010. Much like when Yanks signed Teixiera and CC (and Burnett) in 2008 allowed each to join and get in the mix, without significant burden on an individual and watching them step up in 2009 for the title. I expected the same from Crawford and AGon really.

The fact that Crawford still let the pressure and expectation get to him, and change his game. That concerns me. And knowing that, along with the historic team collapse, and the change in Manager, potentially GM, an those FA decisions, and not significant farm chips to make a play for trade could be telling for 2012.

Its shaping up that this off season just may be one of the more exciting and perhaps unpredictable ones in a long time.

The thing is BDH, it is equally taxing as you are sometimes a delusional optimist, and I love you for it, but it is equally emotional as me….I say it like it is, you have been ranking on me about my emotional posts forever and it is cool (I take no offense) but I have been pretty spot on about a lot of my opinions EXCEPT Jeter…..I eat crow on Jeter, he isn’t the problem on the team, can he be fooled more easily sure, but he plays a good SS, and showed me something this year, still 15M is a lot, but I get it, my problem with him was the years…..

Posada for all that he did in the playoffs, DID NOT HAVE ONE RBI….Thank you Jorge but he can retire now, I would consider signing him back as bench depth on a 1 year deal for low money (2-4M)….but Montero is the full time DH next year, has to be…

Gardner I don’t mention because I don’t have a problem with him one bit, nor Grandy, nor Cano, nor Martin….who FTR you KILLED HIM in the beginning of the season, and he didn’t do anything but play solid all year long….

Consider this statement from me on 4/26/11 to RF post number 191......was I wrong? they went out like a popgun, instead of the mighty bashers they thought they were..

Mark my words, this team won’t win until they get some OBP guys on here, the long ball is overplayed in today’s game….hitters hit? I don’t agree and I raise that some of them do, but home runs hitters don’t hit good pitching even moreso…

The Yankees biggest problem offensively, is one that isn’t going anyway anytime soon, which is, the most important part of there lineup A) doesn’t produce when needed (Tex’s stats don’t mean anything to me) B) and are locked up to extremely long and burdensome contracts…they are the 3-4 or the 4-5 hitters in the lineup….and they are just awful, like really really awful…If you cant see this is a huge problem going forward I don’t know what to tell ya, especially seeing A-Rod will move to DH and that takes away ops for somebody else…they can make a move on Swisher and correct that, he isn’t the answer and cant produce like they need a OBP guy can/should…great guy, cool demeanor, needs to go….

As for pitching, the BP is fine, and will only get better, goes to show you you don’t have to pay out the *** for a LHP, when you have one in your farm system (Logan), with Joba coming back, they will be hopefully even stronger….

Starting pitcher wise, I totally disagree with CC, the guy while good isn’t an ACE, he is a good number 2, inning guy, 3-5 runs per game, will he dominate KC in July sure, does he dominate in big series against big teams? Hardly…..and now he is going to opt out for more years and more money? Have fun trying to find 23-25M from somebody else, and I make it crystal clear to him that if he does opt out…a weight clause is coming, that lard *** is an embarrassment to that uniform he wears, and tanked it in September, and the playoffs…..you could even say they lost because he couldn’t give you 3 outs, your ACE BDH, couldn’t get you 3 outs when needed, he wasn’t Top 10 in any category besides IP, and K, hell bro he is 40[SUP]th[/SUP] in WHIP…He is no Verlander, Halladay, King, Weaver, etc…however they need ole lard ***, if he walks they are in big trouble becauseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…………

Colon, and Garcia might not be here next year, and damn sure you aren’t getting you got from them this year again….so realistically you have CC, AJ, and Nova right now with everybody vying for CJ Wilson this offseason, you feel confident??

As for your youth movement, who besides Montero?? Romine, cant hit MLB pitching yet, and isn’t seeing the Show next year unless there is an injury? The B’s, yeah maybe you might see the starter at some point, but I wouldn’t expect it…not sure where this magnificent youth movement is coming from, they all aren’t ready yet besides Jesus…..

Hard facts my man hard facts…..

Sorry for the lengthy post ha!!

Just throwing this out there BDH but I created the 2009 Yankees thread, won world series. You have created the 2010 and 2011 one, and no where...

Joking aside. this team feel flat when it mattered, we only gave up 3 runs and could not get it done. Bases loaded twice with 1 out and only 1 run on a walk. Got to do better then that. Like i said before, i hate the best out of 5 series, its the one where you are out quick. I think baseball needs to change it and make it longer. Where is the twins when you need them.

I am just preaching a little more even keel - always have....work to not harp excessively on the negative, and work to not overpraise the positives. It does make one come off more rational. Although you call that being a delusional optimist:tongue2:

May sound out of character, but imo what the Yankees need is to play a couple more younger players that they have developed, some of the issues with the team is it has gotten to mercenary and relied to heavily on older players who are worn down when the postseason rolls around and that do not deal with live arms as well as they once did.

we are running on fumes at this point as we gracefully ease out the greats that brought us 5 rings over the past 15 years. we are keeping jeter, posada and rivera at a huge cost but its worth it because we dont dump our greats on a whim. we allow them to retire yankees even if it hurts us. and at least with rivera it hasnt hurt us.

we had the 5th ranked farm system going into this year and there are several more prospects available next year to bring up as we put the finishing touches of moving on from the 1996-2000 core

Jesus Montero, Nova and Nunez all had their taste of the big leagues and Nova was great except for that last game

We still have Manuel Banuelos, Dellin Betances and Andrew Brackman as pitching prospects. Austin Romine, Gary Sanchez and J.R. Murphy as catching prospects. Cito Culver at SS and Slade Heathcutt in the OF

All is sunny and rosey in the Bronx this morning...just a nice day!.....a glorious day! (or so I imagine).

Yanks fan's are telling boston, ya know when Yanks release the behind the scenes crazyness its called the Bronx Zoo and its during the year you win the World Series...makes it a fun read.

Sox organizations release behind the scenes stories of the MOST EPIC COLLAPSE to miss out on playoffs for back-to-back seasons, and its hell fire and brimstone and burn everyone at the stake regardless.

Can't wait for playoffs to start! I think the yankees take it all this year (still in the denial stage!)

Anyway I was in my geology class and we were talking about volcanos and all i could think about was marketing cano with the volCANO thats soon to erupt!

I think a good time to start the 2012 thread is after the world series is over and Yankee baseball beings again!

Now why would the Yankees sign Ortiz when they have a young/cheaper (and possibly better) option in Montero? My guess is Ortiz is saying this for 2 reasons: 1.) in case the Sox don't want to resign him he can say I didn't want to go back in October and 2.) to try and get the Sox to worry he might actually go to the Yankees and offer him more years and money. If I were the GM I'd tell Ortiz to explore the FA market and see what's out there and if he can get a better offer then thanks for the 9 years you were hear but if you're talking about drama remember to look in the mirror on your way out.
