I don't think people realize just how unproductive Gonzalez was last year and how little pop he had with the bat. Like you said he was basically a light hitting doubles hitter. Almost "John Olerud Lite" like.

    Olerud's career line is .295/.398/.465/.863
    Gonzalez last year was .299/.344/.463/.806

Yeah that's not a 21 million dollar player, even if you factor in defense. If his power doesn't come back it's a bad contract. And even if his power comes back his decline in patience at the plate is a red flag, perhaps its a function of his loss of power but surely something to look at. 2013 is going to be a big/important year for Gonzalez.

Cubs sign RHP Scott Baker to a 1 year deal for 5.5 million. Such a Theo Epstein move.

Marlins are reportedly going to FIRE SALE...

Reyes, Johnson, and Buerhle supposedly will be gone.

    DISGRACEFUL.

The *******s on MLB Network are reporting this.

Josh Johnson and Mark Buerhle are both "confirmed" in a package deal to Toronto.

    Reyes is unconfirmed.

If true, the Marlins are officially the only quad-A baseball team in the world.

    Edit: Ken Rosenthal confirms Reyes.

And in one fell swoop, the Marlins have now aggrieved me more than an entire decade of awful Dolphins teams.

Wow. Didn't see this one coming. Not sure what to think at the moment but I'd think the return is pretty light on the Marlins side of things (although we haven't had the names of players coming back confirmed). Of course their main goal was simply to eliminate bad payroll.

Crazy to think all the big FAs Miami brought in last year are all gone.

This is how I go back to my NY Mets roots.

They had a chance to steal me as a half fan forever...I think that might be over.

But he won't have to travel far to see his doctor to get his blood spun right? That was done in Canada right? Or is this joke not funny because I'm wrong. Was the joke even funny to begin with? (I vote no on the last question).

Apparently one of the players going to Miami is Yunel Escobar. Marlins fans should hope the prospects are better.

Wow terrible deal for Miami, just awful.....how do you not get Joey Batts on the return?

You really are bad at jokes, aren't you? And considering the amount of money your team vomited out over the years (including a failed attempt at A-Rod), I wouldn't be throwing too many stones.

Didn't your best player quit on your team last year? And then you resigned him? Seems like a good investment there.

Seems like you're worse at taking jokes then I am of making them. Perhaps I should sell some jokes to the Dodgers as they buy everything nowadays.

Yes my team has absolutely wasted tons of money on bad players/contracts, I never claimed or said different. In fact I've killed them numerous times on this board for poor spending. Also not sure what Arod has to do with anything though, kind of a random comment there. Especially since after the failed attempt the franchise won 2 World Series titles. And the Sox would have traded Manny for Arod so they wouldn't have been taking on that much more in payroll, if any at all (I don't remember the exact dollar figures from 9 years ago).

And if you're referring to Ortiz "quitting" on my team (also known as being shut down with a season ending injury much like Chad Billingsley so should we say he quit on the Dodgers?) then yes he did quit on the team and yes we did resign him. As far as good/bad investments that remains to be seen but I'd rather have Ortiz at 2 years for 26 million then say a platoon non power hitting corner OFer making 20 million the next 5 years coming off of two surgeries in 2012 after a career worse year in 2011. But that's just me.

Selig does not care about baseball outside of the northeast corridor. Actually, he probably wishes there weren't any baseball teams in Florida at all.

Please explain what Bud Selig has done to prove he cares about baseball in Florida. I can't wait to see this list.

I dont think thats really a fair criticism of Selig. Hes never stepped in on any deal I can think of...actually outside of Stern and the CP3/LAL deal I cant think of a commissioner in any of the 4 majors stepping in on a deal in the last 15 years.

That said, I do feel for the Marlin fans. Ya'll have been going through this for too long. Ive been dealing with it from the Wilpons aka the Coupons/Mets for 2 years or so and its BS. Bastards only care about their investment not the team which is what we care about.

Selig is responsible for Loria being in Miami in the first place.

If that's the plan they might as well deal him now as his value will never be higher due to years of control and with the fan base already at an all time low.

Serious question, do the Marlins even try to entertain signing him long term? And if you're Stanton do you sign if the price is right?

Well, It's tough to say because I don't know what the Marlins are thinking. I would say no on that.

For Stanton, f*ck yes. You know you won't end the contract in Miami. Take the guaranteed money at 22. You'll end up with the Dodgers eventually. Probably by age 25 or 26.

Thinking logically, yes. Take the guaranteed money now, just in case. If all goes well, you become a free agent at 28/29.

*cue Stanton signing for a ridiculous amount of money with the Dodgers joke*
