The way I feel about Pujols coming to Florida right now is equivalent to how I felt about LeBron coming to Miami at the beginning of the '09 season. No chance.

Pujols just may be Lorias gem. It's his Van gogh........he wants to have him no matter the price. And that's good news for Marlins fans if thats the case.

I'm wondering if Loria knows something we don't about the TV deal. Supposedly FSN has the Marlins locked in through 2020, but there must be some kind of out over the enxt few years and Loria wants to have a monster team in roder to get a mega tv deal.

The Marlins have always been a surprisingly strong tv property

I wouldnt classify either of these as Serious or Substantial....right now, all Marlins are doing is setting the floor not the ceiling for these two. Dont get me wrong, its good that you are trying, but on the other hand its almost like GM and Owner are pushing out so many numbers so soon (too soon frankly) that when they dont land the big guys and instead backfill with lesser talent they can claim they tried real hard to make the splash.

Less than $200M for Albert when the bar was already set by STL is strange....and Reyes has told the world he wants $100M min, and they offer $90M? Again, strange.

Its coming off as too aggressive and positive publicity only cause the fans are desperate, but the "after the fact" facts are showing them to not be all that serious to make a splash really. Time will tell...but being first to the dance in MLB is never the result that lands the TOP Guys!

Obviously an outsider, but hater?.....lets call it free and open perspective! :tongue2::shifty:

Once all the dust settles, unless Marlins up their offer neither sign here. The question is will they up their offer?

Name me the last BIG FA, that the first team that publicly announced the value of the offer actually landed him?

For one thing, we all know there will be other bidders for these two, and secondly, we know you will have to up your offer. Now Marlins may do this if they are indeed serious. But dont claim you made a serious offer to WIN the FA at first kiss - when the facts clearly put you below a serious offer.

And if so, then they shouldnt be announcing to the world their intent to make a splash and actually sign them...unless of course they REALLY would have BLOWN THE DOORS OFF and properly offered a BLOWN AWAY type number.

This is dog and pony, and its setting the fans up to think this time things will be different.

I disagree. Reyes is as good as ours. The Pujols offer is just a starting offer. They will increase it if they are serious. Although I see them backing out.

These offers are not for PR.

This is actually the quote of last Friday, but I had missed it and it’s way too awesome to pass up. Here’s Marlins owner Jeff Loria, describing the team’s new color scheme:
Some of us would point out there is NO GREEN cause the stands are empty and he is just pretending to spend some cash on the club!

If cardinals sign Pujols, like what is being rumored, do the Marlins go after Prince?

Maybe, but I kind of doubt it.

If Pujols turns you down you just stick with Gaby, sign Reyes and Buerhle and maybe Madson, or make a trade for Gio Gonzales or somebody else we haven't thought of yet.

I'd rather we just forget about Pujols and focus on Gaby. Don't get me wrong, if we signed him I'd be ecstatic, but I think it is a move that isn't good for the long term. Albert is already on or nearing his decline. So if we sign him we get great first base for 3 or so years and then we are stuck with that contract for the rest. Also Gaby gets moved to another position or team. While he will never put up the numbers like Pujols, he can be a very good all star for many years. I'd rather have Sanchez for his whole career maybe 10+ years than a good Pujols for a couple.

Yeah, I think they're happy with Gaby if they can't get Pujols.

It's not exactly a position of need right now.

Reyes/Cespedes/Buehrle or Wilson would be gold.

They also offered a contract to Dobbs before the season ended.

Cespedes is a real target, but he's not a free agent and so they can't offer a contract.

Yea, I heard they have to wait until like January to offer him a deal.

If we don't sign Pujols, I think the best route this free agency is signing Reyes, Buehrle, The Cuban, and trading for Gio Gonazalez. I would also look to trade away Nolasco to free up money.

I read an article that quoted Samson about how they felt after watching his workout. Samson said they were impressed, and they spent the plane ride back discussing with scouts how much he was worth. JMO, but seems like they may not be willing to offer the money he will garner.

Interesting note about our new look. Apparently in the short week the new merchandise has been on sale, it has already earned 17% of our entire merchandise revenue for all of last year.
