NEW YORK -- The New York Yankees have picked up the option of Nick Swisher, which means, barring a trade, he will be the team's right fielder for at least one more season.

Swisher, who turns 31 in November, will make $10.25 million next season and then will be eligible to become a free agent. With the Yankees set in the infield, with Russell Martin expected to return behind the plate and with Curtis Granderson and Brett Gardner in the two other outfield spots, the every day position spot the Yankees could possibly change seems like right field.

Yeah might as well, sign a guy back who cant hit a beach ball in the playoffs.....when they could have got a Type A for him instead....I was reading somewhere that the Yankees wanted a list of Swishers teams on his no trade clause (there are 6) before they excerised the option...

They excerised Cano's option too.....

CC has got a new contract, 1 year extension w/option yr to the existing deal....nice.....Cashman clicking right along with these moves to date. Smart man!

He could have opted out of the remaining four years and $92MM of his original seven-year, $161MM contract with New York by midnight tonight. Instead, he gets a deal that guarantees him $122MM and could be worth as much as $142MM. The sides agreed to add a $25MM salary for 2016 and a vesting option worth the same amount for 2017 ($5MM buyout), according to ESPN's Buster Olney (via Twitter) and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). The option automatically vests unless Sabathia finishes the 2016 season on the DL with a left shoulder injury, spends 45 days on the DL with a left shoulder injury, or makes at least six relief appearances in 2016 due to shoulder problems, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post (all Twitter links).

The Yankees want to bring back free agent right-hander Freddy Garcia, according to the New York Post.

Garcia posted a strong 3.62 ERA in 146 2/3 innings this season after signing a $1.5 million deal last winter. He'll probably want a raise, but the Yankees should have no trouble granting him one. "There’s definitely interest on their part and there’s interest on Freddy’s part in coming back," agent Peter Greenberg said Monday.

Also seems like Cashman negotiated a few clauses into the contract regarding shoulder injuries...this is how you get it done, if you want to stay and NY, it is quick and easy, dont drag it out like some other guy did last year.....:shifty:

He is guaranteed $122 million over the next five seasons and could max out at $142 million over six years if he avoids an injury to his shoulder. A hefty price to pay, but now the Yankees can forge ahead with other offseason priorities.

Have to see what all other options are, but we could do worse as a #5. Would be concerned if he is our #3. Rolling the dice a second go round could come up snake-eyes.

In other news.....based on the bold....I can understand Cashman's thinking.

The Yankees declined their 2012 option on righty Andrew Brackman, GM Brian Cashman told reporters on a conference call today. The 6'10" 25-year-old righty is now a free agent; ESPN's Keith Law explains that Brackman's contract called for the Yankees to release him if they didn't pick up his option.

Brackman, 25, made his Major League debut this year with three relief appearances. The Yankees drafted him 30th overall out of North Carolina State in 2007 and signed him to a $4.45MM Major League contract. The Yankees knew at the time that Brackman needed Tommy John surgery. Brackman made it up to Triple-A this year, where he was shifted to the bullpen. He posted a 6.00 ERA, 7.0 K/9, 7.0 BB/9, and 0.9 HR/9 in 96 innings.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Tuesday that Francisco Cervelli (head) is ready to go "full-bore."

Cervelli suffered a concussion in early September and experienced a setback just before the start of the postseason. But he should be completely back to normal by the start of spring training next February.

Rafael Soriano did not opt out of his contract.

As expected. Soriano is due $25 million over the next two seasons, and wouldn't come close to that kind of salary in free agency this winter. The right-hander registered an underwhelming 4.12 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 42 relief appearances this year for New York. He'll be a setup man again in 2012.

way to much money? what was he making 150 g's a year? or something like that? I don't know what the option was for. But based on it being from his rookie contract, I highly doubt it was for much.

4 years/$4.55M (2007-10), plus club options through 2013, not too mention he got a $3.35M signing bonus, on a guy who they knew had to have TJ surgery....this is just an ugly signing back in 07, and I am glad they didnt waste anymore resources on him, because he had triggers on options that would have put him in 13M dollar range.....terrible terrible signing....

now watch him get picked up by Tampa and be lights out...

I would assume that, that $3.35 came out of that $4.55. I would of just given him a little more time.

So doesn't mean you throw money away, come on bro....he had escalators on this contract that if they exercised his options for 2 more years, would have made this a 13M dollar contract.....
