Why? I don't think one signing has to do with another as teams sign players on minor league deals all the time. Aceves would have been a long relief/spot starter while Delcarmen is simply a RP, most likely at this stage of his career the 11th or 12th guy in the pen. Plus last I checked the Yankees are doing just fine without Aceves. I've heard conflicting reports on that.
annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd then their is this fringing boob..... http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/ya...5d25q-is-mark-teixeira-crazy-or-just-stubborn
Noesi? If you're seriously bummed out about losing a long man (a position that's incredibly easy to replace) and not having Aceves on your team any longer it's a good thing you're not an Oriole or Astro fan.
I would hope you mean the boob as in the writer...cause it sure as heck isnt Teixiera. This boob of a writer is just filling up a piece of blank paper with non-sense......Ted Williams hit .400 vs the SHIFT! its been around a long time, and hitters hit successfully against it, and where the pitch is pitched....its a non-story blown out of proportion to what a GREAT hitting coach does to plant seeds, and what a switch-hitter as successful as Teixieria does to succeed at the plate. Pitchers pitch toward the shift, and hitters dont FIGHT against what the pitch is intended to do....again, the Shift has been around a long time in baseball, and worrying about Tex as a hitter is wasted space in an article. P.S. regarding what Finkle said above, you cant seriously think Noesi (or Aceves was a key loss) is the only long man we have, and that we suddenly should be concerned because he was added to that trade? Come on FinYank, you crack me up sometimes.
yes I meant that....and while I am not bummed that Noesi is gone, Aceves would have filled in nicely...I still dont know what the Yankees saw or didnt see to make them release him....thank God I am not a Balr/Hou fan.... and lastly you know my stance on Tex.....
Aceves had a bad back in 2010 that limited his appearances and the Yankees questioned his conditioning. In Nov 2010 offseason I believe Aceves broke his left clavicle biking and the Yankees non-tendered him because they thought he was going to miss much of the year if not all of the year between his back and his broken bone. It turned out his injury wasn't as bad as originally thought. You can't really blame the Yankees for letting him walk though. As good as Aceves was last year, there are tons of Aceves around.
I do think Cash is trying to do something with the DH position however, and I wouldnt be surprised if they trade again....you figure you have Nunez/Jones right now, and then obviously whomever they are playing for that day would DH (cano, jeter, alex, granderson, gardner)....but why no Chavez, the guys was very good against righties last year, and they say he wants to play again this year, and is "in the best shape of his life" hahahah....you sign Chavez and call it the day no? especially if there is mutual interest from both sides as been reported.....no brainer right? you have to think though there is a logjam in the 5th pitcher spot, you have CC, Pin-head, Nova, Kuroda, and then you have AJ, Garcia, and Hughes for one spot...I doubt they want to go in to the season with 2 starters in the bullpen.....I know Garcia has somewhat of a no-trade clause Is Cash trying to trade AJ/Garcia/Hughes for a DH? screw it I eat both years left of AJ's contract....
stat of the day....call it the "short porch affect" http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/yankees/post/_/id/26531/stat-of-the-day-mark-teixeira
Sure, tend to agree on Chavez, but no need to rush into anything...as you say, moving any extra arm(s) could create a better option. Still early to see how it plays out, and try to work the best angle to fill a SMALL need (Lefty DH platoon). Also, Cashman has stated, every year he loves having extra proven Arms on the standby, since no rotation traditionally survives the season intact. So a trade could produce a relatively EVERYDAY DH (aside from given rest-day(s) of Arod, Jeter, or Tex, etc). Just dont think Cashman has to make a move including Chavez since no one else is really giving him a nibble. Just sit back and see what shakes out if adding the Lefty bat to Platoon on occasion as DH remains a need come opening day. Knowing Cashman he would love to land a younger hitter under his control to fill a rotational DH duty if possible - who could also EARN defensive playing time while giving the OLDER boys a day off, or DH day, etc. And agree, the xtra arms from AJ, Hughes, Garcia and even Nova depending on return on trade, probably will be on the move, especially if you think one or both of the Killer B's can FORCE Cashman's hand...especially Banuelos from Left side of mound. ST will be fun to see the BEST 5 prove a point come rotation setting stage. The Pen will benefit from left overs (with the right mindset). The B's will both be part of staff come 2013 with 1 year rental of Garcia and Kuroda - and sure, if AJ doesnt step up and prove something come ST, I can see an exit strategy for him and eating contract is a non-issue in best interest of the club.
exactly, plus you know a pitcher always goes down in ST..... would love to see them make a deal for Justin Upton.....can you imagine Gardy, Grand, and Upton as the outfield....shhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttt........ I know I know Fink, we dont have the people I can dream though...
Hey in my dreams the Sox have Hanley Ramirez, Buster Posey, Ryan Braun, Michael Stanton, Clayton Kershaw, Felix Hernandez, and the 1997-2001 version of a healthy Pedro Martinez. Not to mention no Lackey or Matsuzaka. So by all means dream away.
He's been good since the first day he came to the big leagues in 2007 and has been tested since 2005 when he was drafted. There's no reason for me to believe that he's simply a product of PEDs since he failed a test after 7 years of pro ball putting up his numbers. Plus word is he failed a test (or there was a false postive) due to medicine he takes that was a doctor prescription.
Pretty good article on Cano....cant wait to see him in the 3-hole...and no Wallace they shouldn't flip-flop him and Tex.....Tex isnt a 3-hole hitter.... http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/yankees/post/_/id/26491/25q25d-how-high-can-cano-go
aww this is good...... http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/yankees/post/_/id/26626/cashman-with-a-classic-steinbrenner-story
Actually the whole blog is very good, apparently there is a seminar type thing going on at Sacred Heart with Cash and Theo.....good stuff all around.... http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/yankees/
So Yanks pull the trigger on Minor League deal with Bill Hall.....cracks me up! Also, Even after signing Hall, the Yankees continue to be focused on Eric Chavez and Raul Ibanez according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Last night we learned that they were in serious talks with Ibanez, and Heyman says the Yankees are in excellent position because all of their targets have interest in playing for a contender. Meanwhile, Joel Sherman of The New York Post reports that the Yankees are not offering more than $2MM for a DH-type and might not even want to spend more than $1MM. The Yankees signed Left-handed hitting first baseman Russell Branyan to a minor league deal with a spring training invite, reports Dan Martin of the New York Post. That low contract money explains why Damon and Matsui's names are not really getting the play...makes sense, but would think Chavez is no-brainer unless he is hurt and or just not able to step up to plate anymore or play 3B....maybe thats why Hall is insurance incase of several other Righty options cant handle it. Long shot however. Really dont care who the part time Lefty DH rotation bat is between Chavez, Ibanez, Damon, or Matsui. Both Hall and Branyan are camp fodder with limited potential to change that view. P.S. Cashman having affair on his wife, now wife filling for divorce following the stalking/extortion case....a big negative (in my book of life) against Mr. Cashman for his off-field bad decisions.
typical Jeter, 40 degrees in Tampa and he is there hitting a week early at ST......3000 hits must not be good enough ohhhh and look FINK!!!!!!
Can't wait to read the "Hughes took PEDs" article coming up if he has a good year because he changed his "body composition".
dude If Cashman gets the 13 to 15 million in salary dumped, he is a freaking genius......who cares who they get at that point...
Could Cano be the next Captain after Jeter leaves? http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/yankees/post/_/id/27167/mentor-to-pineda-it-will-be-canos-team
Yanks plan to move AJ today (prior to Pitchers/Catchers showing up and all). If so, the team's attention will turn to adding hitting depth once the rumored A.J. Burnett trade with the Pirates is finalized. The Yankees are "intent" on acquiring two hitters and "remain focused" on Eric Chavez and Raul Ibanez, tweets Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. I kind of like this combo actually if BOTH are pulled off and added for bench rotation and LH DH role, etc.
thats the plan man...Ibanez and Chavez.....although dont count out Damon either, and I would almost like to see Damon more.....he hits in big spots....
I think Damon's problem is that he still wants too much money compared to what teams are willing to spend. Damon said, I believe in Heyman's last article, he called the Yankees looking for work but they never called him back.
yup but thats the reaosn he isnt signed yet, he will lower his demands..... that was short.....retire Oki retire...
Interesting about Okajima, he was a long shot to make the team to begin with. Wonder if he will try to catch on to another team or how bad he's injuried.
