The difference between Williams and Posada is the wheels came off their careers pretty quickly, Rivera was still pitching at a high level when he got hurt. If he wasn't then I would agree with you or if he wanted a multiyear deal but it seems like if he comes back all he wants is another 1 year deal.

In an October of much disappointment in Yankee Land at least we have a positive uplifting story:

    http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/sto...e-girardi-made-special-request-alex-rodriguez

I really don't understand how it would have been embarrassing for Arod, but whatever he clearly has the same self esteem issues as a teenager. Hopefully this can help in the rebuilding process between Arod's relationship with Joe Girardi so the next 5 years can be just as sweet as his last 5 weeks with the Yankees.

Sad to see a fanbase put all the blame into one player year after year. I dont personally get it. Cano, Martin, Arod,Chavez,Granderson and Swisher did nothing the entire PS.

Usually that's that case but I disagree about this year, as Cano, Swisher and Granderson have been getting killed on the radio and in the papers. On my drive home from work on Thursday there was an actual discussion on the radio about how the Yankees should look to get rid of Cano and bring in Marco Scutaro(!). But Arod is a lightning rod and when you're making 28 million dollars and is performing so poorly you have to be benched in must win playoff games I think you should get beat up a little bit. Is he the main reason why the team lost? Of course not, it was a complete team failure on the offensive side of things. The only ones that should go blameless should be the pitching staff they pitched well overall in every game but Game 4 of the ALCS.

If one of the next 5 produces a 2nd WS title for Arod tenure, wouldnt be surprised if they feel the whole relationship and entire time was worth it, etc.

You're assuming that Arod will actually be a key contributor to that 2nd WS title. If they win the WS in the next 5 years with him as a part time player (or worse) I can't see how that would automatically justify it. Sure flags fly forever but it still doesn't mean the deal isn't a poor decision. I mean on the flip side if the Giants win the WS this year I don't see how anyone can make the claim that the Zito contract and his entire Giants career makes it now worth it.

In a pair of no-brainer moves the Yankees have exercised their 2013 options on Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano. Granderson will make $13 million and Cano will make $15 million, and they’ll both be eligible for free agency next winter. Despite a pair of ugly postseason performances obviously Granderson and Cano on one-year commitments are easy calls.

Yankees also exercised their 2013 option, for $500k??, on reliever David Aardsma, who missed all of last season and nearly all of this season following elbow and hip surgeries. New York signed Aardsma to a cheap deal knowing he was a question mark for 2012, so they’ll throw the former Mariners closer into the bullpen mix as a cheap possibility for 2013.

Rafael Soriano will opt out of his contract with the Yankees and elect free agency today, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. Soriano's contract includes a $14MM player option for 2013 with a $1.5MM buyout.

Assuming the right-hander opts out, the Yankees will counter by making him a one-year qualifying offer worth $13.3MM. This would link Soriano to draft pick compensation, setting the Yankees up for a potential pick in 2013.

thank you for the 14M back and the draft pick that is coming.....

If they dont sign back Rivera, Sori, and Swish, you are looking at saving 40M.....not bad...

Yes Boras is out of his mind, the problem is he's extremely good at his job and the GMs that sign his agents are even more so out of their minds.

Good! That’s good; when you get in a fight with a drunk you don’t hit him with your pitching hand. God, I can’t keep giving you these free lessons so quit screwin’ around and help me up.

Yes and market value for the best second basemen in the game who will be 31 is right at 17M per year......

I hope they explore a trade with this guy instead of forking over 25M a year for him...just a bad allocation of money in a position that doesnt warrant it...

Cashman is playing hardball with Rivera, he did with Jeter, and hopefully he does with Boras...

There's no way the Yankees would trade Cano, nor should they. At least let him play the season out and hope he's motivated enough to have a good year. But it would make zero sense to deal him, especially since they wouldn't get much back for him now that he's 1 year away from being a FA.

He hasnt had a bad year.....dont get me wrong, he doesnt hit in the playoffs like the rest of them, but yeah regular season he is good....

However for 25M the numbers have to look like Miggy's and they just dont....

Looks like Ichiro is back too. I know the FA market isn't great and even though the Yankees are bringing back a lot of (older) guys on 1 year deals I don't think the Yankees did much to improve their club so far (one could make the arguement that they have gotten worse losing Soriano and Swisher already). Of course its only November 27th so this is premature but really I think the AL East is completely wide open at the moment, I don't think there's one team I'd bet on right now to win it.

EDIT: Looks like the Ichiro deal isn't done yet, premature reporting on Twitter.

Wow really? That's pretty funny. I don't think there's a MLB team out there that would give him that even with the sad state of catching nowadays.

I think it would be extremely foolish for the Yankees to think Pettitte will be able to pitch the whole year or at least think that will be the plan. He'll turn 41 next year and hasn't pitched more tha 130 innings since 2010 when he was 38. Last year he was very good but still only in limited work (75 innings). The Yankees should and probably will sign a few more SPs. Especially since Kuroda will turn 38 before the year starts too with a lot of miles on his arm.

I am sure they will.....Andy is good to go because remember with him it isnt about velo, it is about spotting.....which he still has plenty of.....

think Greg Maddux....at the end of his career he was throwing in the 80's but painting black.....the guys never came off the edges and was effective in doing so...

Right but as a pitcher no matter how hard you throw you'll still need stamina and endurance to be able to pitch that much for 7-8 months of the year.

Wow Arod has another tear in his hip and will need surgery for it, and will miss some time in 2013. Good thing he's signed until 2017. Man that contract just keeps getting worse and worse.

Can't wait to see that left side of the infield with Fat Captain Jetes and One Hip Arod with their walkers trying to get to ground balls.

There is a picture on Twitter of Jeter and Reynolds together and he looks fine....Jeter once cleared to run, will lose that weight quicker than anybody...his metabolism is like a oil burner.....he always has had trouble putting weight on.....

As for A-Rod thats a God send honestly, although Fink it isnt another tear, it is the same labrum that he rushed back to quick last time......it doesn't seem he is in a rush either, the procedure is scheduled for January....even better.....
