No, it's being rolled over. Figure 9 million for draft picks, Miami will have 11-12 million in cap room to be rolled over into 2014.
Yeah, it will be "rolled over", but recent history indicates that they aren't going to spend that. One of the reasons why Jeff Ireland's job is secure IMO.
So when you say it "will go towards the bottom line" you mean that has the same thing as rolling it over?
I mean that the salary cap is $123M, and Miami is required to spend ~$110M. They're going to be close to that $110M number. That means they can carry over space. But that doesn't mean that carried over space will be used. All it guarantees is that Miami's expenses are ~$13M less than they could potentially be. Ireland is essentially saving Ross $10M+. And this has been a trend, its nothing new.
I'm not sure if I would characterize it as cheapness. Jeff Ireland is pragmatic. He sticks to his plan. He places values on players, and isn't going to deviate. But thats really beside the point. The Dolphins are losing money. They are spending ~$10M per season buying up empty seats. Jeff Ireland wants to go to his boss and say "hey, here is an extra $10M that I saved you". Now that doesn't mean Miami isn't willing to spend. But they aren't going to spend money just because they have it.
People don't want to hear about dropping ten mill a year buying tickets, they just wanna think it's all good, wins will cure everything..
