It's a moot point. Iverson will go to Memphis, because they'll guarantee him a starting job, and the Heat won't. Pistons, Magic and Blazers are apparently the finalists for Brandon Bass. That's a MUCH better move for Detroit than Glen Davis.
Parker's a nice signing for the Cavs. Can play both guard spots, hit outside jumpers and doesn't turn over the ball a ton. Nice fit as a first guard off the bench, and an improvement over Boobie Gibson in the third guard role. I don't know if they can resign Joe Smith, but if they can, that's a pretty nice 9 man rotation with O'Neal, Varejao, James, West and Williams starting and Parker, Ilgauskas, Smith and Gibson off the bench. I think they need a backup 4 (Smith, probably), because I just don't see how they could play Shaq and Big Z together unless they want to give up a 5 on 3 fast break every time.

Iverson has already stated that the media twisted his words about requiring a starting role. He said that he has a problem with coming off the bench playing 15-20 minutes... if he's playing starter minutes, then he'd be fine. In terms of minutes, I could see something like this: PG - Chalmers (30) / Iverson (18) SG - Wade (36) / Iverson (12) But I honestly could care less. If he signs here, fine. If not, fine. As much as I love Allen Iverson and have defended him in the past I don't know if I want the potential headache. I wouldn't be thrilled to get him, and I wouldn't cry if we didn't. He's not going to make or break a potential championship run for Miami in 2009-2010. We have no shot at that. This year is all about the development of Beasley, Chalmers, and Cook.
Let me premise what I am gonna say by saying that I am a huge fan of Gordon, Boozer and Villenueva. But if you got Boozer...who the hell is gonna play defense? Is Prince gonna defend all 5 spots?
By getting Gordon and Villanueva, and passing up Avery Johnson as coach, the Pistons have already made it abundantly clear that defense isn't on the agenda for 2009-10. If you're going to try and bury the bad guys under a mountain of points, you might as well go all the way. I don't think Boozer's that bad defensively, incidentally. He's not spectacular, but he's adequate. Villanueva and Gordon, of course, couldn't spell defense if you spotted them the D-E-F, let alone play it.
The Jazz just threw gasoline on the Boozer trade rumors; Okur got a 2 year extension. [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4317973"]Mehmet Okur, Utah Jazz agree to extension, sources say - ESPN[/ame] Edit: Good God, that new ESPN linking thing is clunky.
awesome deal for Orlando as well, but i gotta disagree with the link. i think Bass will be playing more of the 4 then anyone else on the team, leaving Rashard where he should be at the 3. although obviously im sure Rashard will be playing some of the 4 as well at some points when they want Pety on the floor with Vince and Rashard.
Meh, I can't really see Wade leaving Miami unless its via a sign and trade. Riley is right IMO, him going out and signing a bunch of overpaid role players without Wade signed longterm is dumb, no smart GM would do that. Wade isn't going to leave the max deal he can get from Miami on the table. I'm not sure why free agent max players posture like this the CBA is setup for players to stay put, the only way they move is through sign and trades and I don't see anyone giving up enough to get Wade out of Miami.
millsap is rumored to agree to deal with portland tonight...after that, there is not another big man rotation better than pf-aldridge, millsap c-pryzbilla, oden
Grant hill back to phoenix 1yr/3M. Channing Frye is joining him in Phoenix (2yr/1.9M per). The Milsap deal is supposed to be 4 years and in the 32-40M range (8-10M per). Utah has a week to match. Knicks supposedly moving on to Andre Miller and may offer him the same thing they offered Kidd (3/18M). Dont see how thats going to work since Miller cant shoot for ****. If you want a PG who cant play defense or shoot just sign Iverson.
Andre Miller to the Knicks for Duhon being rumored per rotoworld: The Knicks are "receptive" to the idea of a sign-and-trade that would send Chris Duhon to the 76ers in exchange for Andre Miller, according to CBSSports.com. The Sixers are apparently willing to let Lou Williams and Jrue Holiday take over at point guard, though adding Duhon for one year probably couldn't hurt. The Blazers, whose cap space is tied up in an offer sheet for Paul Millsap, aren't likely to make a bid for Miller. Source: CBS Sports Also Jarrett Jack has signed the raps offer sheet. Always felt he was good enough to start on a team that valued grittiness. He wont get a chance right away but he could make Calderon trade bait. CBS Sports reports that the Raptors have signed restricted free agent Jarrett Jack to an offer sheet. The value of the contract is unknown, but it will be four years long. The Pacers would be able to match any offer for Jack and have expressed a desire to retain him. Toronto's interest in Jack is understandable -- he's a big upgrade over backup point guard Roko Ukic and is also capable of filling in at shooting guard.
Miller has a career .460 FG%age, where do you get the idea he can't shoot? He can't shoot the three, but to his credit, he doesn't try. I think Miller is an extremely undervalued player who could really help the Knicks.
Heard this might be coming. I hope it's a prelude to a deal for Boozer, and not some ludicrous 5 year, $30M deal for Big Baby.
I should have elaborated more..Miller cant shoot the 3 at all. And since this is Mike D'antoni's offense we are talking about you know he wont have a PG who cant stretch the defense like that. Doesn't matter, because both the Knicks and Philly denied interest in any such deal.
This wouldn't be a bad move at all for the knicks... The Knicks are interested in trading for Carlos Boozer, but team president Donnie Walsh admitted that he's "not sure we have anybody [the Jazz] want." Cuttino Mobley is New York's best trade chip, since his expiring contract is mostly covered by insurance. The Knicks are also in ongoing discussions with restricted FA's David Lee and Nate Robinson, both of whom could eventually settle for a qualifying offer. Source: NY Post
I thought Mobley retired? And how come no one has offered Lee anything? I thought he was a decent player.
SVG needs to get Gortat in the lineup with Howard. That would be a defensive nightmare for opposing teams.
Funny thing is I dont even think hes asking 10M per let alone 12. I think he's realizing what the Knicks can do here. He's realizing that the Knicks can ultimately pay him the most, they retain his bird rights through the FA signing period and circumvent the salary cap once they have some of the premier FA's next year in the fold. Sign Bosh or Amare or Dirk and Joe Johson...maybe a Michael Redd or someone who can shoot the 3 and then resign Lee and Nate. All of a sudden you have a deep team. Somehow they have to get that draft pick back from utah next season. Offer to go a Mormon mission program in NYC or something. Knicks are in pursuit of Boozer also btw, just another pipe dream probably but Id take him. Maybe the Jazz might take an expiring or two back so they could simply resign Milsap?: Carlos Boozer broke his public silence on Tuesday, telling a Chicago radio station that he expects he's "gonna be traded relatively soon or in good time." "The Jazz told me they want to go in a different direction," Boozer said. "We mutually agreed to work out a trade...If it happens I'll be very happy." The fact that Boozer gave the interview in Chicago will probably fuel rumors that he'll be traded there, but Miami, New York and Detroit are also possible destinations.
