If you are going to remake a classic, I think you should bring it into a different direction. Why make the same movie again with more special effects?opfinistic likes this.

Agreed. Look at the recent remake of The Omen, it wasn't bad, but it was damn near the same as the original. You might as well just remaster the original film. Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes, Friday the 13th, Dawn of the Dead, all good to great remakes, IMO and each one took the original in a different direction.

Why not? Bands cover songs all the time, and sometimes those covers eclipse the original.

I guess I'm kinda funky that way, I love seeing/hearing something old made new again. I've got cds of cover songs, my DVD collection is full of horror remakes. Perhaps I'm clinging to my fading youth? -
My God man you are only 5, trust me you have at least ten more good years in you then things really start to go down hill. :pity:
Anyway on to the point I'm not a huge horror fan but I like seeing remakes just to see how a new generation puts their spin on things, good or bad.opfinistic likes this. -

Maybe it's just me, but the whole remake thing has gotten out of hand. It used to be that there were remakes here and there, but never of real classics. Now there's a list of remakes 10 pages long, and alot of them being movies that shouldn't be touched at all.
It seems like today movie makers are just lazy bastards who can't come up with anything original anymore, so they repackage something that was already neatly laid out for them, call it a "re-imagining" and rake in the cash.

I see your point. I read somewhere else here that they blame the success of Nolan with the whole Batman thing. We know how Hollywood is, if there's a dollar to be made, everyone will do their damnedest to make it.

opfinistic does have a point. Personally, I like the 1982 remake of 'The Thing' better than the original, same goes with 'The Fly'.
Pagan has a point as well. Doing a remake just to use the name of the franchise to make a few bucks is a waste if the movie's going to suck. I thought the 'Amityville Horror' remake was terrible, as well as 'The Omen'.opfinistic likes this. -
Neither one brought anything that new or different to the table, they were alright. Although I did like seeing Ryan Reynolds play the role of the 'bad guy'.Jaydog57 likes this.

Yeah, but they do get it right sometimes. I'm one of the few people that liked the Halloween remake. Zombie's a horror film fanatic, so he's pretty good at it, IMO. I don't think Rob was trying to make his better than the original, just add his own thing to the movie, and the added backstory was great. I'm anxious to see how the 2nd one comes out.

Hey, the album sells 2 million copies and I'm set. :lol:

Dawn of Dead(2004) was a great remake to me. It's plot was totally different and the only thing the same about them is they took place in a mall. I love both of them.
