Because last year we had a team that could run the football decently...last year we had a first year starter....NOW whats our excuse? And I credit Mike Nolan for improving our defense not Tony Sparano.
He's still won more games than hes lost as a HC, so he hasn't failed. I'm not really passionate for or against sparano, i just don't see better alternatives.
If Tony stays then I don't want to draft any QB. His philosophy & identity-free offense have already ruined 1 QB for us. I'd rather wait till he's fired.
Hard for me to give all that credit in year 1 to Sparano, we lucked our way into Chad Pennington who does the one thing you need to do...protect the football. Look at how we have regressed since. His In-Game decisions are a joke, he hasnt handled the offense well at all. If it wasnt for Mike Nolan and his defense this team is a 3 win squad. I just do not see why we owe him another year.
Well I admitted the offense has sucked. There is no excuse and Tony should get some blame, but he should also get a chance to fix it.
we don't. But all i see on the market is a couple of washed up coaches, one retired coach, and a college coach. Me, personally, id rather give Sparano another shot. None of the options look any brighter and they dont have the support of the players in their corner.
Honestly Sparano should have taken over some of the offensive play calling this season. He applauded Henning after critical losses. Sparano called plays in Dallas in 2006. It would have been extra duty for a HC that already had his hands full but it had to be done. Coach didn't step in. He let the madness continue. Tonight most are hoping he is retained. More than likely it happens and we suffer.
And Payton didn't luck his way into Brees? How often do 26 year old pro bowl QBs hit free agency? Yea, he was coming off an injury, but when has Pennington not been damaged goods? You can't criticize Sparano for getting Pennington and doing well with him. I'm not saying we owe Sparano another year, but we could obviously do a lot worse. The grass is not always greener, especially considering how much the players do like him.
If it weren't for MIKE NOLAN, Sparano would be up s#!t's creek this year and we'd probably be 4-12 right now! Tony's changed our game-day offensive philosophy & identity all year depending on who we're playing rather than having one consistent philosophy/identity that takes it to a defense and dictates the game rather than it being dictated to us. Can we just go without a coach and just have an OC and DC running things until a top candidate is available?
These asshats ****ed up my franchise...I want BLOOD ATONEMENT. Nothing less than their heads figuratively on a silver platter will do.
B/c the playcalling was outstanding. It was the inexperienced youngens who couldn't execute his "here it is, now stop us" philosophy.
Enough of the 11-5 it was 3 years ago already and all it accomplished is giving people a crutch of false hope! We don't have Drew Brees we have jack **** at QB! Oh and by the way comparing Sparano to Peyton is as useless as comparing a Apple to a dump truck! Hmmmmm look at Harrbaugh make those half time adjustments! Ever see that out of Sparano!
Not sure that should matter, Wanny was a fan fav and given about 2-3 more years than he should have dont want to sit through another season of a passive coach playing for FG's I just dont like his style more than anything, playing it safe might get you into the playoffs every once in a while but will you ever really win the SB?
I'm not sure it should either, but I'm not in that locker room, so I don't know if it does matter. Like I said, I don't know if Tony should be owed another year, but I don't think it's cut and dry (as if he went 3-13 or something). The team changed defensively this year from last, while remaining arguably very much the same. The same could happen to the offense. Perhaps knowing the results of this year, and having a different OC (with new and fresh ideas for this team) could be enough to change what we perceive to be passive play-calling (ie playing it safe) with Sparano. He knows another offensive year like last year would not be good, passive or not.
First time head coach taking over a 1-15 team. We have a lot of young talent, it all needs time to come together.
And next year there will just be done other excuse. "the lockout ruined our training camp" "orton/palmer were washed up, we just need a good qb"
Not for me. I am totally in Sparano's corner but if we aren't a winning team next year then he should go. But he should get this year.
Then why not extend him? Give him 3 more years. Did you not see how far away from NE we are? We are closer to the Bills than we are NE. But sure, stay the course
And did you see Stanford go for the throat.....1st down at their own 3, into a touchdown two plays later. Its a good thing Stanford did it in that stadium, because if Sparano is around next year it may not happen unless the Hurricanes do it. It sure ain't happening from the Dolphins.
All I can say is I hope Ross is doing some major tampering right now trying to get whoever it is he wants to get, I just have this BAD feeling im going to see the words "Sparano Retained" headlining the site. Just want to get this over fast and start worrying about a QB and an OC.
And if he is retained and doesn't make the playoffs next year it will likely be the end of it, so why worry about hearing any excuses (you'd never hear such a thing from Sparano anyway).
And since this GM chose the QBs here, and this coach hired the QB coach and OC that ruined the QBs I don;t see why you're happy that the same people who have totally failed to choose good QBs and OCs are now in charge of finding a good QB and OC.
Quite agree with you. Miami fans have been subjected to a conservative offensive play for way too long. We feel like we are playing Victorian style football and the rest of the league is playing in the 21st Century.
I'm glad you brought your "A" game to the discussion. Fine you want "A" game? You are letting a 11-5 season barely beating bad teams blind you and causing you to latch your loyalty on to a terrible HC and front office! Good coaches don't blow 21pt leads at home while giving the Saints a free timeout to score a TD before half! Good coaches know the clock stops on a change of possession! Good coaches don't finish the season going 0-3 at home with the playoffs on the line! Good coaches adapt their game plans(notice Harrbaugh doing that as we speak!) Finally GOOD coaches never ever lose 3 straight home games to the Browns, Bills, and Lions at home! Only the 3 worst teams in the first decade of this century! We keep Morano and I promise you he is fired mid season! You can take that to the bank!
Man, I hope we give away everything we have to get Andrew Luck. This franchise needs a QB more than anything else at this point. More than EVERYTHING else, in fact. They've proven they can find decent talent at other positions off the street and in the CFL and later rounds... so give some of that talent (Bess, Wake, Hartline, etc) and some picks away for a QB. Then replace those guys with more CFLers, UDFAs and late rounders. What this GM sucks at is picking great QBs, so make that a higher chance by getting luck, then rely on your strengths (finding gems at other positions to fill the roster).
Why worry? Because it's been 38 years since we won a SuperBowl? Because it's been 10 years since we won a playoff game? Because every year we WASTE is a year of the careers of Jake Long, Cam Wake and Brandon Marshall that we waste?
You nailed it, those will be the excuses used next year......if Ross does this, and keeps Sparano it will so screw up his fanbase they will never trust him again. He will be enemy # 1 in this town, and so hated he may have to sell the team. It just doesn't make any business sense to keep these guys.
Getting Andrew Luck would be monumental.....then again so would me hitting the Mega millions tommorow. Know what I mean.
Let me translate that to the Tony Morano game plan for you 1st down Ronnie in the B gap. 2nd down Ricky in the A gap. 3rd down Henne play action pass batted at line. 4th down a blocked punt for a TD or safety! Any questions?
Dude, you make too much sense. Its the waste that bothers me the most. The fact that in 3 years they have made the offense a joke in the league, tells you how much they care for offense. They throw a WR at the team and think that will make it all better. Idiots !
Why so Morano and his 3 second buzzer can turn Luck into a checkdown machine? I don't want these idiots anywhere near our first round caliber QB!
I didn't say why worry if he fails to make the playoffs, I said why worry about excuses. And I personally don't consider any of the past 3 years a waste to Jake Long's career even if we didn't win a playoff game. Anthony Munoz probably doesn't view his career as a waste despite not an immense amount of team success. I love the Dolphins. They have provided me with hours, days, years, decades of entertainment. I've only seen a few playoff appearances though, and even less wins. I don't consider any of my time wasted following them. I'll worry when the Dolphins no longer an enjoyable outlet for me, not about when I can bask in the glory of being a fan of a team that won the Super Bowl. It'd be amazing to win it every year, but my season isn't a waste if it doesn't happen.
Beacuse this is the year Cowher & Gruden & Harbaugh are obtainable. Next year we could be looking at bringing in a retread like Shottenheimer or Mangini just because they have "experience", or going for the next Cam Cameron "hot co-ordinator". We have a legit shot at SB winning coaches - you have to go for it NOW, or it may never happen for us.
One thing to note about the game tonight: If Harbaugh comes here, he should probably get used to playing in this stadium with much less fans in it.
The waiting game is also what got us Henne & Pennington instead of Matt Ryan (who has home field advantage in the playoffs by the way).
