Talk about getting a good laugh. I remember some Chicago fans telling me when Wanny was hired how he would run this franchise into the ground and I just blew it off.
What I should have done is seen the reality of their statement and seen Wanny as one of the horsemen of the Apocalypse laying the ground work for Saban.
Don't ask me what that makes Cameron. Still working on that one. :wink2:

I was not a fan of his but lets be real here and realize that he was handed a team that was a complete disaster, much of which because of Wanny's personnel magic. I don't think Cam was ready to be a HC but he was only here 1 year and the effect of his tenure is miniscule while Wanny's lives on.
It will continue to live on until we are lucky enough to be able to fill all the holes on this roster.
Thanks Wanny and kudos to the Bears fans who came here trying to prepare us for where our franchise was headed.Xeticus, GridIronKing34 and Colorado Dolfan like this. -
Talking about Bears fans, it's funny because we tried to do the same thing to Pitt fans when Wanny got hired. And they wouldn't hear it.
I remember going to a Pitt board right before/during/after their first game, a home game against Notre Dame. It was Charlie Weis' first game for the Irish as well.
Pitt got crushed and it looked just like it did when he was in Miami. Poor clock management, the conservative offense, the mistakes, lack of discipline, etc. I mean, Tyler Palko looked like a pretty good QB the year before. That was before Wanny got his hands on the program.
Still, Pitt fans didn't want to hear it.
I guess it's hard to take when you're taking what's probably going to be a multi-year plunge with a coach. So you try and make the best of it.Coral Reefer likes this. -
wanny was definitely bad... lucky for him, our ire toward him was set on the backburner by multiple other "running it into the ground" types we've had since him. :(

i hate him just as much as the next guy, but i think a lot of people are blinded by their emotions on the issue. yes i realize jimmy "built" the team he inherited in 2000, BUT jimmy couldn't achieve those win-loss records with his own teams prior to that. Further, wanny obviously did SOMEthing right or else he wouldn't have lasted 4+ years.
he definitely screwed us with some personnel moves & cap moves - i'm not doubting that, but our problems RIGHT NOW have nothing to do with wanny... it has to do with turnover every year from continually having ineffective regimes. Saban had us on a corrective path but ultimately screwed us, and in some cases, just as bad as Wanny IMO. the drafts and player management under Saban was arguably just as bad as Wanny's tenure.... the difference is at least wanny gave us some good seasons of respectability in the league.
i'm not a wanny homer, and yes i don't like him as much as the next guy... but i think he gets more responsibility than he deserves for the current state of the franchise. -
Even in the rough 4-12 season we were more or less always close in the games, and this was after his star player retired.
We thought it couldn't get any worse than that 4-12 season, but it got much worse and we're seeing it the past 2 years. This team is out of games in the first quarter, and never have I seen a Miami Dolphin team consistently out of games so early.
Yes, Wanny and Spielmans' personnel decisions may have an effect on this, but we never had that loser mentality and out of games by the first quarter syndrome like we have now.
As the previous poster said: I hate Wanny for his personnel decisions as much as the next guy, but what we saw with Cam Cameron was the installation of a loser mentality and a team that is always playing from behind, mostly wayyy behind and this has continued this year. -
The current state of this team can in fact be traced right back to Wanny's regime and he is the largest factor in what happened to this franchise.
Every bit of talent was drained from this team.
No incoming future talent was drafted and put in the pipeline.
We've been right in the middle of the years where players from those drafts would be in thier primes. We have none of those. He directly caused the need for a complete team overhaul. Now I'm not saying Saban or Cameron were efficient in their jobs either, but we were already nuked to the bottom of the league before they ever entered the door. -
Wanny took talent and coaches that JJ had assembled and had good success, but he did the same thing in Miami that he did in Chicago. He took a team with good players and coaches and run it into the ground. His tenure as head coach and general manager left the Dolphins without young players to build on for the future. I don't hate Dave Wannstedt but I give him the most blame for the troubles Miami has gone through.

Two things sum up Wanny tenure for me
1) Eddie who??? Eddie Moore, what position does he play?
2) What can Trent Green do that Jay Fiedler can't?
Oh, and how can I forget the proud honor of being the first to pass on Drew Brees.
What an ignorant donkey. -

I'll never forget the game against Minnesota, where we needed one win to get into the playoffs where we were a favorite to win. Instead of getting the team prepared and focused to beat the Vikings, he hung a lobster trap in the locker room.
We ended up losing that game and the next week to miss the playoffs!

Was it Wanny who made the statement, "There is nothing wrong with a punt"?
I remember well his classic, "What can Trent Green do that Jay Fiedler can't do?".
