14 for the Jets, nice to see a writer who actually gets it. They probably wont set the league on fire but it's probably the first time I've seen a writer admit that they upgraded the line this offseason.
Think he pegged the Phins right too. Kinda like the Jets last season, a couple good players but the holes are a little to big to overcome at times.BwanaZulia likes this. -
His methodology is messed up. He says Vernon Carey is our best player, praises Samson Satele, praises Jake Long, says that Justin Smiley will be an upgrade...and then ranks us #29.
This is one of those things where it wouldn't matter if we blew up the entire line and magically replaced them with pro bowlers, we're still not getting out of the bottom five. That's what a 1-15 record will do for you.
The Dolphins' OL is right on par with the Jets'. Jake Long won't have to do much to prove better than D'Brickashaw Ferguson. Alan Faneca at his age the way he has played the last two years is an upgrade over Justin Smiley but not a ridiculous one. Samson Satele is very close to on par with Nick Mangold. Vernon Carey is significantly better than Damien Woody. Steve McKinney and Brandon Moore are a wash. The Jets have a significant advantage in Faneca/Smiley, a slight advantage in Mangold/Satele, while the Dolphins have a significant advantage in Carey/Woody, a slight advantage in Long/Ferguson, and the Moore/McKinney comparison is a wash. Both have brand new OL coaches. That makes them about even. And, if Prisco is correct in ranking the Jets at #14, then we in Miami should expect a middle-of-the-road OL.HardKoreXXX, SICK, muscle979 and 4 others like this. -

He puts us at 29 but puts the Jets at 14? I dont get that one... Our OL is our strong suit and if taken lightly by opposing teams, should dominate in 08. Take into effect our head coach, who Prisco must have forgotten, was the reason why he ranked Dallas #1 (doubt he even realized that), and we have an oline that is middle of the pack.
I also think we get a bad rap with our OL no matter how good they are because our olines have stunk for the better portion of the 2000's.
There are holes all over this whole list.. No way Detroit has a better line than we do.HardKoreXXX likes this. -
Not to mention Ferguson and Mangold's play will likely improve with Faneca playing between them. It's easy to overlook the influence that a proven winner/pro bowler/veteran can bring to a young OL. Pretty much ever article I've read so far states that Faneca is already assuming a leadership role on the line.calphin likes this. -

I won't argue it any further though, Long is your guy and most if not all of you will declare him the better player no matter what. I'll just leave it until the regular season to see who really has the better OL of the 2 teams. :yes:Last edited: Jun 3, 2008 -

Pete Prisco doesn't get anything. He's just an idiot who writes smarmy garbage for the soul purpose of stirring the pot.

Prisco is a dope though. I've seen many a message board post that were not only analytically superior but much better crafted overall. I could say that about a lot of writers though. -
If you asked 32 General Managers whether they'd take Jake Long or D'Brickashaw Ferguson for 2008 and only 2008, what do you suppose the results would be? I think 25 of them would say Jake Long. -

I won't even touch on the idea that lining a guy like Faneca up next to him won't improve him, his play, or the OL overall. Like I said, we'll just wait for the season to sort it all out. -
And yeah, as a rookie, even with what he's shown and with all his physical ability, I wouldn't put Jake Long as much better than D'Brickashaw Ferguson.
