I had no interest in keeping him at half of what the Giants paid him. Completely invisible in too many games. And a guy who only gives you seven or eight sacks a year needs to do a lot more on the field than he does.

One of those guys i was fine with letting go. Something just shouted he wasnt going to live up to the contract... he started off strong in his first year with the Giants but has been a little bit above average since. For what he is getting paid, he needs to be a surefire star.

He was never worth what the Giants signed him for. A good, not great player and the Giants paid him like he was great.

FWIW, PFF gave him a 86.3 grade lase season. Which is higher than any season grade a Miami Dolphin achieved last year.
As people said he has been good not great. The problem is the Giants payed him like he was Nkomadong Suh, a sure hire HoFer in the prime of his career. -

I think that Vernon was probably the most overrated defensive player for the Dolphins in at least the past decade. Too many games, he was just completely invisible, or else he hurt the team with his actions.

This is the classic case of lining up an average DE opposite one of the best in the league (in this case, two of the best in Suh and Wake). I'm not saying Vernon wasn't talented....teams simply could not focus on him as the worst player we had of the front three. Good for him getting paid and all, but I wouldn't want him back in Miami unless it was on a budget-friendly contract.
