Why does everything involving Dolphins linebacker Matt Roth this season have to be cloaked in confusion.
There is plenty of confusion about when Roth, who was the team's projected starting strong side linebacker before a groin strain sidelined him for three months, will be allowed to return to practice.

According to league rules, Roth is allowed to begin practicing in helmet and pads on Oct. 20, or "the day after the conclusion of the sixth regular season weekend."
With that first practice a new 21-day clock would begin on Roth, at the end of which the team would either have to restore him to the active roster or be forced to leave him on the reserve list for the remainder of the season.
Where Roth fits into the defensive mix when he does return is another issue. Even though Joey Porter's hamstring strain is still an issue, the Dolphins are doing just fine stuffing the run, which was Roth's specialty. And with Cameron Wake possibly blossoming (he wasn't a factor against the Jets) it'll be interesting how the Dolphins work that rotation. They'd also need to cut, or demote a player to make room for Roth.

I found it interesting that the Dolphins worked out former UM tight end Buck Ortega on Wednesday. Ortega's a strong core special teams player, which is what the Dolphins miss most with Patrick Cobbs' season ending left knee injury. Ortega's tryout makes me wonder what that means for John Nalbone, who hasn't been able to sniff the field.

It's interesting to hear how Ricky compares baseball to football:
