That player is John Carlson. He was a second round pick in 2008 and put up solid numbers in his first year: 55 627 5. In 2009, his receptions and yardage dropped (51 574) but his TD's increased to 7. Last year, his numbers dropped dramatically (31 318 1), but it was a terrible passing year out in Seattle. With the acquisition of Zach Miller, I suspect he may have become expendable. Maybe we make a play on him.

Seattle currently has ten CB's, not DB's, CB's on their roster and have a number of UDFA's and CFL players trying to find an NFL caliber player. Marcus Trufant is solid, but he's 30 and will be 31 before the season is done. Kelly Jennings is their only other NFL CB right now. I'm thinking maybe we can send a guy like Benny Sapp, and a later round pick (maybe a 5th) for Carlson. Any thoughts?

Any deal where we get something in return for Benny Sapp would be a win.

The guy is a producer at a position that is becoming ever-more important in the pro game. I doubt they let him go for a song.

But yeah, it'd be nice to have him.

If I'm not mistaken, Daboll's offense doesn't use much two tight end sets. We already have Fasano, so I don't see the point in Carlson if he's not going to be used much.

I'd love for the Miami Dolphins to get their hands on John Carlson. He's a really nice player.

I don't think Benny Sapp & a pick would do it. But, I think it would behoove the Dolphins to see what it would take to get him.

I really like all of our young DB's. I wonder if they'd be interested in Will Allen, but he's an elder statesmen too.

Tarvaris Jackson has Justin Forsett, Leon Washington, Zach Miller, John Carlson, Sidney Rice & Mike Williams. Not a bad collection of talent Seattle has accumulated their the past 2 years.

I don't know why we haven't attempted to sign Kevin Boss. I think he'd be a nice addition. Plus, he only costs money.

He had Hasselbeck throwing to him for a few years and he was incredibly inconsistent.

Just don't see why he'd be any better here.

This. Carlson is a stud, and horribly misused in Seattle.

We'll opt to carry a New Brunswick TE off the scrap heap into the regular season instead.

Wow are we all talking about the same guy here?

From what I've seen from him, he's a completely awful blocker and an inconsistent receiver.

Lost his job a few times over the course of last season IIRC.

Seattle has the sense to see the advantage of two authentic NFL TEs on the roster. We seem to prefer to have one and then a conglomeration of potential. I'd try to get him, but we won't and if we did, I bet Seattle would say no, unless we offered an overpaid price.

And Gibril Wilson was an excellent player. Antonio Bryant will play for this Bengals team. I am not going to Alabama. I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinski.

They used it a lot last season, after not too much in 2009.

They're probably better off running 11 personnel this year. Getting Bess, Hartline, and Marshall on the field at once, and running against teams Nickel packages with the line and Fasano might be more of a mismatch than a fullback or #2 TE.

We had a chance to make a play for a TE that would actually upgrade the position with Zach Miller and we were never even interested.
If we didn't make a play for him why would they trade for Carlson. Plus Carlson is too young.

Rumor is that were trying to get Troy Drayton out of retirement to compliment Favre and Barber.

If you want a guy who can really catch, Carlson is that guy. We'll have to disagree here on how good he is. In 2009, he looked great. 2010 was not a good year for Hasselbeck. Line problems and the lack of a R. Game until the Lynch trade really had him down.

Who? There's no one out there who is even an upgrade in the passing game, much less enough of one to justify the run game dropoff.

You're seriously *****ing about them signing veterans when they had what, two guys they signed and kept on the roster over 30+ the previous three years? And one of them they inherited?

I would say he's a slightly better receiver than Fasano (not by a big margin). But the dropoff from Fasano's blocking to Carlson's is huge, imo.

Yah cause $17.5 million guaranteed for a guy who had something like 100 more yards and 1 TD and half the blocking skill is a wise investment to replace over our $3 million option in Fasano.

This team really loves Clay and have him learning 3 spots at the moment including #2 TE.

    No I'm not at all.
In fact I've been harping about us needing to bring in a vet RB.
I'm *****ing about the absurdity of the inquiries they have made lately.
Their 2 biggest inquiries for offensive Vets have been about retired players.
You don't find that just a little amusing?

    Favre out of retirement?
Kitna..... If it was to be a vet emergency option then I'd be ok with it but with these guys they'd probably give the starting job to him.

Tiki Barber? We've got no experienced tailback on this team and were a team that supposedly builds it's success on the back of the running game. There were a ton of solid FA backs on the market and they passed on all of them. Then they're all gone and these numbnuts workout Tiki Barber?

Ya, anyone who still thinks we should of got Zach Miller for that ridiculous amount of money SEA gave him, I just can't even talk with lol

I wanted him as much as anyone but for that price it'd be absolutely ******ed.

We were not even reportedly interested.
If the price got out of hand then fine. But for Ireland to not even explore the opportunity to improve a position that has been a weak point for us for years now while your chasing superior teams in your division....... that shows a troubling issue with our FO.... at least to me. Call me crazy.

You're assuming we weren't just bc it wasn't reported.

If we called and they gave a price even remotely near what he got, then obv that's as far as our interest went.

It was reported we never made an inquiry.

As I've told others, if you're ok with that that's your take.
I however realize that we have not had a true TE threat to make safeties respect the threat to middle. A threat like that helps to open up the entire passing game. To me it's a valuable position to have a top talent.
