Here's a fun exercise and a great chance for ya'll to tell me I have no idea what I'm looking at..... And who couldn't pass up that thrill amIright.

Can you distinguish Shane Ray's overall pass rush abililty from Newsome's?
Is Ray any faster or more gifted to the QB?... any more sudden in his movement ability?

... or can you distinctly distinguish Newsome's highlight reel from Beasley or Ray's?

Personally I think you guys are criminally undervaluing the 4th best rookie sack producer since 2012 who otherwise might've been a top 50 pick had character concerns not pushed him down to the 5th round. The trio ahead of him are Aaron Donald [13th pick], Ziggy Ansah [5th pick], and Bruce Irvin [15th pick].

But for the chance that my lofty assessment is horribly wrong unlike last year's of Byron Maxwell, I'll give anyone the opportunity to capitalize on it via signature bets like I've proposed to one GM. The bet is, if Newsome doesn't produce at least 5 more sacks than the pass rusher you draft from this point forward, you can pick my signature next season. If I win, I pick yours.

So apparently I'm not the only one who thinks highly of Newsome's ability.

Let me preface this by saying, if you look at all my trades this year, they've been quite agreeable... some might even say a little too agreeable. As a result of trying to do smooth balanced trades with every transaction, I'm not netting the same returns that others are. So when it comes to one of the brightest pieces on Indy's roster [the lesser known 5th rounder Newsome], I not only wanted to boost his perceived value within this league to where it'd be on par with the real NFL so that I could then trade him if I wanted, but I also wanted to get his name & play recognition out there so that I wouldn't be looked unfavorably upon for starting a "5th round 2nd year pass rusher", which I figured would be the case based on the terribly low interest level there was in him. If Newsome didn't have a skeleton in his closet damaging his draft stock, he might've been a top 50 pick. We would've all known about him, and he would've been a hot commodity based on his low price, upside, and great rookie performance. Newsome seemed so unknown that I targeted Vic Beasley in a trade-up to #6 so that it wouldn't look to the league like I'm ignoring the position.

It's just like having Byron Maxwell last year. He's one of the best Cover-3 corners in the league and was the most desired corner in FA not named Revis but our league wasn't familiar with him last year which made him untradable for the longest time, which was fairly annoying b/c, as Seattle's GM, I knew exactly who he was and how good he was. I bet the league's perceived value of Maxwell was initially 5th or 6th round [b/c he was originally selected in that area].... and by the time the draft arrived, his value was finally in the early'ish 2nd round where it belonged. So when you have rare guys like these who are basically unknowns but should be valued alongside the 1st rounders, you basically have to change the perception of the entire league in order to fix their value, just as it required some due-diligence on my part to realize I have a gem of a player on my hands. Hell, even I wasn't quite aware of how high Newsome's ceiling is and how good of a pass rusher he actually is until I became the Colts GM.

Not just after you became the GM..but about every week you raise his value, you originally wanted a 3 and I offered you that and then some.

He certainly does look the part though, hence why I made you an offer that was 3 weeks later "garbage".

Either way, if I felt that was a need for the Titans?? I would perhaps consider offering up a 2. So teams with that particular need should consider ponying up the duece.

How the hell am I tooting my own horn here? This is entertainingly hypocritical coming from the guy who's essentially already declared Fowler an elite NFL player just b/c you used a high pick on him and b/c the media & analysts say his potential is great. So um, tell us, how did you arrive at your opinion that Fowler was worth the #8 pick?... you know- since you're sitting here ridiculing me for saying Newsome is worth more than the league's perceived value of him [since most of us likely spent little time watching his tape or reading up on him b/c he plays for a team most of us don't follow closely]. It sure as heck wasn't from you going by ACTUAL NFL EXPERIENCE or an actual NFL draft. See the hypocrisy?

You apparently can hype up Fowler as a future HOFer despite ZERO NFL experience just b/c you used the #8 pick on him, but I can't desire the perceived value to be increased of the outstanding rookie pass rusher who EASILY played at a 1st round level as a rookie. Hell, he's even surpassed the performances of many of the 1st round pass rushers drafted the past 7 or 8 years. But yeah, I'm just tooting my own horn blah blah blah. Yup, the stats are there, the accolades are there, the grades are there, the glowing praise is there by Indy's organization and then some, and the eye test is there to support what the stats, accolades, and praise are saying.... but yup I need to ignore all of it b/c Vt_Dolfan thinks Newsome carries an entirely different value despite Vt_Dolphan likely not having done a minute's worth of research and film studying.

Now, had you spent a minute looking into Newsome, you'd realize just how ridiculous and insulting your post is... especially when you pair it with the final sentence of my previous post that reads, "...just as it required some due-diligence on my part to realize I have a gem of a player on my hands. Hell, even I wasn't quite aware of how high Newsome's ceiling is and how good of a pass rusher he actually is until I became the Colts GM." I'm pretty much saying RIGHT THERE that I'm no better than anyone else, but thanx tho.

Yup yup, this is ALLLLL based on my own isolated, unshared opinion of Newsome. :001_rolleyes: I'm the only one on the planet to recognize his great rookie year......... well except for:

    • the actual NFL recognizing him as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for week 17 after a 6 tkl, 2 sack, 1 FF game. The first sack came on 3rd & 4 w/ Tenn on Indy's 4 yard line trying to tie the score 17-17 in the 3rd qtr. The sack forced a FG, which was missed, preserving Indy's 17-10 lead. The 2nd sack came mid 4th qtr with Tenn trying to convert a 4th down at midfield, preserving Indy's 20-10 lead.
      • Newsome could've won the honor again in Week 9 on the back of a 7 tkl, 2 sack, 1 FF game against the Giants that saw his sack-strip returned to NY's 4 yard line that sealed the fate of the game and left Giants fans walking to the gate. That's 2 games he directly impacted.... as a rookie.

    • Indy's GM Ryan Grigson recognized him when saying, "If not for Jonathan Newsome, we probably don't beat Denver in the playoffs to advance to the Championship". Wups, make that 3 games he directly impacted the outcome of.... as a rookie.
    • the stats themselves recognize Newsome as #4 in rookie sacks the past 3 years behind only #13 pick Aaron Donald, #5 pick Ziggy Ansah, and #15 pick Bruce Irvin.
    • the stats recognize Newsome as #1 in Forced Fumbles the past 3 years among all rookie pass rushers. [he had 4 last year]
    • PFF recognized him as their 37th highest rated player of the draft IIRC, equivalent to a high 2nd rounder, which obviously receives a bump in value due to the importance of position he plays.
    • PFF further recognized Newsome as owning the highest Pass Rush Productivity score of any rookie edge rusher this year with at least 100 pass rush snaps.("PRP is an advanced statistic on PFF, not to be confused with a PFF "rating")
    • Highest rookie PRP of any edge rusher since Aldon Smith in '11... and 2nd highest since PFF began tracking in '08.
    • Higher PRP in 2014 than Robert Quinn, Clay Matthews, Mario Williams, and Jerry Hughes to name a few.
    • 6 pass rush snaps shy of qualifying Top 20 PRP among all edge rushers in 2014.
    • 17 teams failed to have a pass rusher with a higher PRP than Newsome.
    • Top 10 in Run Stop Percentage among OLBs per PFF
    • Colts Defensive Rookie of the Year with the following eulogy:

But yeah, other than all that insignificant stuff, Newsome's entire NFL value is being subjectively created by yours truly. :001_rolleyes:

Tell you what chief, why don't you take all of this information into account, spend about 20 minutes pairing it with his game tape, and then YOU tell me what his value is worth since, YET AGAIN, you seem to have such a goddam bug up your *** with my posts. Give Newsome a draft grade and tell me where he belongs in relation to the remaining available pass rushers and that's exactly what I'll put Newsome on the block for. If you wanna low ball it on purpose, have at it.

based on your absurd, insulting response toward me about the NFL's 2nd most prolific rookie edge rushers since PFF started tracking Pass Rush Productivity in 2008, I seriously doubt you'd be able to tell if he had 2 good legs or not. :wink2:

Thanks man. Tell that to the guy throwing a fit and getting his offended panties in a wad as if I'm the only one on the planet to recognize Newsome's play. But yeah, I'm the crazy one. This a forum of Dolphins fans, most of which probably didn't pay attention to a single snap Newsome took all year [much like I didn't], but apparently according to Vt it's not allowable to raise the perceived value of a virtually unknown player who played like a 1st rounder. How arrogant & obnoxious of me to just want the guy's value to be where it's deserved.

Originally I wanted a high 2 b/c I thought that was right on the button for his value and figured he'd be gone fairly quickly TBH. Then I dropped to a high 3rd b/c it seemed like few in the league realized who he was. Your 3rd was too low in the round for me to pull the trigger, sorry.

oh you mean the one just the other day?.... by that time I decided I would no longer lowball myself and accept 3rd rounders for him. 2nd round value for me in this particular instance means a 2nd rounder is involved. A 3rd and a 5th might be 2nd round value but I can't jump in front of the 49th pick and say, "Hey, I've got 2nd round value here with this 3rd & 5th, so I'm gonna cash these chips in now and make my pick. Step aside." :p

This is why it's a bad idea to have trade discussions publicly. If you want to list a players attributes or accomplishments, fine but then it's probably a good idea to let it go. Either people express interest or not.
