I can't remember for sure if he played some stand up at Troy but it's something you can't dismiss IMO.

I love Osi, but I think Sheridan and his moronic defensive scheme should be gone long before Osi. Anytime you start zone blitzing dropping Osi and Tuck in coverage 15-20x a game you just flat out dont know what youre doing. Those guys are pass rushers plain and simple. Use them as such and they will produce. I like the Giants but they deserve the results theyre getting because their fundamentals and their scheme flat out suck.

Osi would fit here in a heartbeat but the problem is we already have Osi. His name is cameron wake. Weakside OLB who cant shed blocks well and who hasnt really played in space at the NFL level. Umenyoria is much like Ogunleye when he was here, a great complimentary defensive end but Im not sure hes the guy who transcends your front 7 from good to dominant.

Who cares, hes worth it.

 

Umenyiora has been a liability against the run. I'm not sure we need that type of player right now. IMO we need an every down OLB.

 

According to Profootballtalk.com, the Giants have "no desire" to release or trade DE Osi Umenyiora after this season.
The franchise reportedly believes Umenyiora's comments following Sunday's loss, which indicated he doesn't expect to be back in New York next year, are simply Osi's latest attempt to get a new contract. After missing all of 2008 due to knee surgery, Umenyiora's rush numbers are way down and he's been exposed by the run. He may only return as a situational pass rusher.

Am I the only one that wants to see what Wake can do as a full time player with another off season under his belt?

 

Osi basically reiterated his desire to either start or be gone and basically threw Bill Sheridan under the bus in a radio interview, deservingly so. Unfortunately for Osi, Coughlin values coaching continuity as much as anyone and I dont believe he will want to change defensive coordinators for the third time in three years. Unfortunately for Coughlin, showing loyalty to a defensive coordinator who thinks the defense has done a "competent job" despite being ranked 28th in scoring defense might not be the smartest thing. Additionally, this is the first time since 1966 that the Giants defense has given up 40 points or more in a game 4x in a season. While Osi has his flaws (doesnt shed blocks well at all, liability vs run) if Im choosing him or Sheridan, Id deal with Osi's flaws 100 times out of 100.

 

Same playing time as Wake. No telling what the staff is up to.
