It does tell you that he is at least decent at his job. If he wasn't decent then he would be easily replaced. However the year before last season the Dolphins defense averaged around 30 yards less per game when it came to defending the run. That is decently significent. Generally someone who is bad at their job wouldn't make such a difference.
Yes he does and what he said is exactly how you catagorize Dolphins fans, of which I am, and you do it so much its getting old.
Ummm...Chad Henne was the 26th rated QB in the NFL in 2010. Truly pathetic. Henne is easily our weakest link right now. Link: http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/p...sort/quarterbackRating/year/2010/seasontype/2
I knew I wasn't losing my mind! A simple comment such as "We need better QB play if we are going to make any type of playoff run" and BAM!!! You're labeled a "Henne Basher" and better yet, an "unloyal fan".
As for weakest links on the team. I'd go with: 1) RB 2) G 3) QB 4) TE (due to lack of any depth AT ALL)
Even though I think Henne should get the chance to compete, I can easily see your point of view as wanting improved play, not wanting Henne dead....
Dude you are making excuses for him. Channing didn't make plays when he wasn't a banger. It has been six long years and the guy still has no structure to his game. He isn't going to get better and he is long past needing to be replaced. You keep calling out his position and his role but he has been moved around and his lack of awareness shows. He was supposed to be so much better with Dansby is all I heard from this board. It didn't happen.
Don't forget impatient If we go get another QB this fanbase will be *****ing about him in another year or two while he is developing. It is a vicious circle with the fans who don't understand a maturation process and a need for being patient.
Personally I don't think Henne is even a capable caretaker at this point. We know he isn't a franchise QB. Henne has the skillset but lacks the mental makeup....maybe its the poor coaching that cost Henne his edge, I dunno. But he is damaged goods and needs some real competition. The QB, everyday of the week. Especially one thats NOT still wet behind the ears and STILL cant perform. Repeat after me, "HENNE IS NOT THE ANSWER". There, that should finally do it. Feel better?
Replacing Crowder is a luxury, not a necessity. I'd like to see them find a player who can do it, but it's not likely to be high on the docket. Singling out Crowder is kind of ridiculous. He's good at what he does, and he's better than quite a few long-term starters in good defenses in similar roles. He's not a great scrape linebacker, and should continue to be pulled for Nickel packages, but painting that is a huge problem is fairly ignorant of how many players are in that position. I'd love for them to find a guy which would allow Dansby to freelance more, but realistically that's going to prohibitively expensive or a hard proposition to do on a budget.
Yes, he didn't make plays when he wasn't a banger. My point is, as a banger, he fits well. I'm not sure what others said about him, but all I expected from him was to keep guards off of Dansby.
well said. If Misi develops as we hope, we have 3 stud LBs. How many teams in the league have 4 stud LBs? 1, maybe 2? I think our front 7 is our strength. Crowder isn't great by any means, but an average ILB aligned with the other 6 is good enough for another year. I'd like to upgrade Crowder too, but we have bigger holes to fill. MUCH bigger holes.
Its more fun to beat your head against a wall than attempt to have a logical conversation with some people. Trust me, I have tried it before.
An entire team's worth of inconsistency is our weakest link. There's inconsistency at CB.... inconsistency at LB..... inconsistency at Safety...... inconsistency on Special Teams...... inconsistency at Oline....... inconsistency at RB......... inconsistency at WR....... inconsistency at TE........ inconsistency at FB...... inconsistency at QB......... inconsistency at coaching. The only place we haven't experience any real inconsistency has been at Dline.
our weakest link has to be RB right now with only sheets and hilliard. BUT with that being the easiest position to replace IMO it isnt our biggest need. Interior O-line needs upgraded or at least needs quality depth. Misi and Clemens are young and have shown progress and have talent and need some competition for there job (jones will be good to compete with clemons this season though). ILB IMO isnt a huge need but if we can find an upgrade we should get one, there are bigger needs especially with edds coming back. Henne needs upgraded but with that being the hardest position to fill, i think QB is OUR weakest link, even if henning was hindering him and holding him back....
The benefit of drafting a quarterback is that if Henne is worth something you will likely get value for him. If teams are considering trading a first rounder for Kolb, Henne coming off of a 90 QB rating year, young would easily be worth a first round pick. If Henne fails and the draft pick comes in, well you've made a choice at QB finally and he'll finally play. That's the difficulty of the whole argument. There is one vital need for Miami this off-season on offense and that's the guard position as well as perhaps RT. After that it's just a mixing and matching of inexpensive speed WRs and TEs, a RB by committee etc etc. The Jets get excellent production out of a third round pick and an aging RB. There's no reason Miami can't get good production out of say a Ronnie Brown, a 3rd rounder, and a veteran competing for a spot, if their OL is well set.
RB. Were gonna need to move the ball forward one way or another. Perhaps we can get on an early roll, before the passing teams get their games up to snuff.
For a team that was supposed to be built from the middle out...our biggest problems are still in the middle. On D we got killed by tight ends and slot recievers breaking free down the hashes, that tells me ILB and S still need work On Offense, C, G, QB and RB. RB can be improved in FA, so can the line, at least quicker than the draft after the first rounders are gone. Until we have a "franchise" QB we won't have a franchise IMO but thats thin pickins this year. Ryan Mallet may be able to start from day one, but I'd like to see what Henne can do with an offensive coordinator that can actually remember most of the playbook can do. So that leaves me back at ILB, hopefully after a trade down to pick up a second rounder. All that being said tho, if Mark Ingram is sitting there at 15, I would not be unhappy with that pick, if for no other reason than sentimental value.
we have a number of weak links: 1) Center 2) Pulling Guard 3) RB 4) ReturnSpecialist 5) ILB 6) QB 7) HeadCoach too many to fix in one season only with DivineIntervention can there be a SuperBowlHeaven in 2011
In other words, Dolphin fans who criticize the players that you like can go to hell. But since you're so loyal, you can criticize anyone you want. Henne is by far our weakest link. You just cannot be mediocre at the most important position on the field. It's a passing league. Hoping he can make some progress this season if he's the guy. Anybody who thinks RB is the weakest link hasn't been paying attention to the last 2 superbowl winning teams. Saints and Packers proved beyond the shadow of a doubt you can win in today's NFL without a great, or even good RB. I guess you can make an argument that it's our position with the least talent, but it won't be our weakest link, IMO.
I don't agree. I've been re-watching some of the games on NFL Network (or at least parts of them) and I find that when Henne fails (throws INTs) it's almost always one of two reasons. Either he just misses (accuracy issues) or the play is so predictable that the defender jumps the route. I don't even think it is so much a result of him staring down the receiver either b/c it so often happened on quick passes where you don't have time to look anyone off. It really is just that the defense knew what we were doing. It seems to me that that was a result of predictable play calling and an over-emphasis on avoiding mistakes. I'm hoping that Daboll helps in both of those regards. I think that simply using the backs as an outlet when trying to avoid a mistake would limit the number of INTs. Last year we kept the backs in to block so often that Henne had few receiving options. Not only did that make the targets predictable but it too often left him only with bad options; force a pass, throw it away, or take a sack. That's how you set a QB up to fail. Now the accuracy will always be an issue, but he's actually been more accurate than I expected from him coming out in all areas but the long passes. IMO his current level of accuracy is more than sufficient to be a care-taker as long as the other reasons for mistakes are minimized.
