Yet another voice for Ireland taking Mark Ingram, I'm not so sure that will happen.

I've been meaning to say this for a while, but I think there is a natural psychological tendency to discount "safety" as a legitimate rationale for drafting a player. We all think that the guys we like will become the players we think they can be. And I think that can sometimes take away from the simple truth that Mark Ingram is one of the safer bets in this draft. I like taking safe bets, especially when they're at positions of need anyway, and even more so when that bet's upside is "Emmitt Smith" by many.
I happen to think we're pretty damn close. We need to make a push now. With only one pick in the first two rounds this year, I really don't think we can afford a bust. So I'm inclined to value safety in a draft pick pretty high.ToddsPhins likes this. -
That said, Ingram also fits a need.

Saints were down to PS guys ar running back for their playoff game, when you try to go cheap, you pay a price. -
Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush, Chris Ivory, Ladell Betts,...the Saints rostered 10 RBs last season to compensate for injuries. How in the world is that going cheap? -
-
Bush is not a starting back.
We have such a crucial need in the running game that Ingram could make sense, especially if they feel Ronnie B and RW are done, if so we'd be down to Hilliard, what I'd like is to take Ingram, team him with Hilliard, then find a Running Back who can handle kicks and punts and fill in for either one. -

Recall, Peyton inherited Reggie Bush. -
Emmitt Smiff might not have been the exciting Barry Sanders, but he sure as s#!t helped win a few Super Bowls. I'd still rather have Julio, but I wouldn't be disappointed if the pick were Ingram........ especially if Harvey Dahl is brought in to help block for him. -
So I will ask the question.... what would Emmitt Smith have been without the great OL he ran behind? I will say it now.... we could draft superman to be our RB and he would be ineffective behind our OL. The Fins have to fix the OL before they can do anything.

Ingram seems like a natural fit considering where his value is and the Dolphins need at HB, but for some reason I just don't get the feeling the Dolphins would take a HB at 15 and maybe not in the 1st at all. Don't get me wrong, I love Ingram and wouldn't be upset with him at 15, I'm just not as sold on the Dolphins going in that direction as many seem to be in these mock drafts.
Also, I'm not on board with the whole "safety" line of thought. Safe picks have gotten this franchise where it is today. Jake Long was a "safe" pick and while he has been fantastic, Matt Ryan would probably have had a stronger impact in retrospect. Sometimes you have to take chances and not be scared of failing. -
Emmitt was Emmitt because of his OL. Unlike Sanders et al, who could have played and excelled on nearly any team, Emmitt would not be the HoF, record setting RB he was. -
I seem to recall JJ starting from scratch aside from Nate Newton and maybe Mark Tuinei, and then filling in around him, as in maybe they all gelled together all at once in 1990 or 91 or so. -

Well, that, and the Salary Cap going away for 2 seasons, bottom line imho they were in win now mode and it will come back to bite the way we were bitten when Saban's FA's did not really produce for us once he scampered to Alabama. -
Safe is probably the best bet and Ingram is a pretty safe bet. Unless they trade back. No way Jones gets past the Rams. No way, and Green might even get snatched up by the Bills even though they need defense
