Per ESPN's Rumor-Mill- I don't know the terms of his contract however. Could Panthers move Smith? 11:52AM ET Steve Smith | Panthers Top Email Formerly one of the league's dominant receivers, Steve Smith is having a disappointing season along with the rest of the Carolina Panthers. On Sunday, Smith was limited to just one catch for four yards, and after the game he told the press, "I'm no longer an asset to this team," according to the Charlotte Observer. On the contrary. In a purely speculative sense, he could be quite valuable as a trade chip. There are several teams around the league who need a legit receiver, and with slim playoff hopes, the Panthers might do well to have an eye on their future. In that sense, it might be a good idea to call around and see what kind of value they can drum up for their top WR. It's an unlikely scenario, to be sure, but we'll keep you posted if we hear more.
He's a poor character guy, I wouldn't want him on the team and I would think the FO would shy away from him as well.
Agreed. Besides, if we are going to add a receiver, I really think it needs to be a bigger guy. JMHO...
If we were to add a spare part, a big redzone threat, then yeah I can see adding a WR (more likely a TE). I honestly don't think we need a true #1 WR, our offense just isn't built to feed that type of player the ball.
I wanted us to get Smith following the Panthers Super Bowl year (2003?), but not now. Never thought I'd say this, but we really don't need him.
He led the NFL in recieving yards a year ago. I wouldnt want him because he's not in his early 20s anymore.
i don't see CAR trading him ... his comments about being an asset is a lot taken out of context ... at this point i wouldn't take him, unless he was extremely cheap ... but that isn't likely to happen either ... so = pass ....
Technically it could've happened and we haven't heard. It's not likely though. I could see the Pats or Giants making a deal like that, but not us.
i'd do it. The Panthers would be stupid to trade him. Delhomme is the reason why Smith is "washed up"
he is a poor character guy although i think under the right conditions he is a guy who could be kept quiet or even made into a better character(randy moss).
I thought it was possible, but if they did--it would be for a guy like Bowe (Cheap and young) or Smith (1 for 1 trade upgrading position while providing CAR with a high ceiling WR)
