www.profootballtalk.com/2008/12/28/packers-get-third-rounder-for-favre/ How much better do you thing the Pack would have done had the let Favre un-retire and play there? I think the 3rd was worth it to give Rodgers some play time... and they will need it to rebuild the D.
They wouldn't have done any better. Rodgers had a very good year, although the Pack's Defense and running game were non existent.
The Packers made the right move. If you take out that ridiculous game against AZ Farve's year wasn't very good at all, him making the Pro Bowl is a complete joke. Rodgers is the better player at this point, Farve makes the big mistakes that lose games and over a 16 game schedule he will have about 7 or 8 mediocre to terrible games at least.
I honestly think they'd have done worse. Rogers far outplayed Favre this season and was one of very few bright spots for the Pack this year. Had Favre been there, he'd have thrown away another one or two victories.
Agreed, Rogers wasnt the problem with the Packers this year, it was the lack of a rushing game (and subpar OL play for them), and the second half collapses the defense frequently had. The Pack certainly got the better end of this deal imo. Keeping Favre would have effectively meant benching Aaron, and who knows what happens after that. He gets pissed and demands a trade, he loses confidence and sucks etc etc. The Packers management made the decision they thought he could be a quality starter in this leage and lead that team, and he certainly did. Thus they let Brett "Its all about me now" Favre go for a pick. It may have looked a bit bad if he got to the playoffs, but he didnt.
