Mike Brown kinda looks like a genius right now.... http://twitter.com/#!/AdamSchefter/statuses/126303024325988352
The Bengals have traded quarterback Carson Palmer to the Raiders for a first-round pick in 2012, and a conditional first-round pick in 2013, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. News of the potential trade was first broken by Jay Glazer of FOX. Glazer also says the deal is done, and that the 2013 pick is a second-round selection that can become a first-round pick.
Good, now we don't have to worry about beating Oakland. With Palmer at the helm, its one more step towards Luck!
WOW, really? If the Raiders don't win the Super Bowl, this would be a mega failure. They don't have a pick in the first 4 rounds of the draft now right?!? But I'm glad, Palmer should be good enough to get them a playoff shot, and instantly improves our chances to lose to the Raiders.
What with Orton sucking, the Palmer price having been two first rounders, David Garrard needing surgery and lying about it. The only things we really could have done different was get Bradshaw, sign Sproles, and sign Waters and McKinnie...
You know, this makes me realize... our dumb front office could trade away next year's first round pick today, taking us out of the Suck for Luck sweepstakes.
I dont think theres anyway in hell we trade our first round pick. Bengals got an awesome deal and will be the next AFC North powerhouse if Mike Zimmer stays.
If that's the case, that is some of the stupidest reasoning I have ever heard of for overpaying for a below average QB. Palmer is not good.
Or Palmer could have a complete 180 and play hard due to a change of scenery. Not out of the realm of possibilities.
He had no camp and God only knows what he's been doing while in "retirement". I would be utterly floored if he came in and played better than last year and he was average at best last year (20 INT's).
Palmer has not been the same since the elbow surgery. and Mike Brown is coming off like Belichick here.
Glazer said that the Bengals get a second first-round pick if the Raiders win a playoff game in 2011. If the Raiders win the AFC West and the Bengals capture a wild-card berth, Cincy could face a no-lose situation in the postseason, if the playoff tree sends Cincinnati to Oakland. Win the game and advance, lose the game and get a second first-round pick.
You have no faith in Ross? He might not be a genius but he knows the reality of a wasted season and coach that is gone after the season, think he just rides this out and doesn't allow the current staff to jeopardize the future. The Raiders have to think they're a contender this season and if you think that, then you bite the bullet on the price I guess. Not that I'd be a fan of it as they obviously overpaid, but if our team was 4-2 99% of us, myself included, would be overrating the team and thinking we have a shot at this thing. Does take Oakland off the potential win column of the teams we have left. I almost want to call the Bengals owner a genius but maybe more lucky. If Campbell doesn't go down, who knows what he would get for Palmer and if he'd ever move him. Good point BDH, would be interesting to see those teams face each other in the playoffs.
I'm going to go out on a pretty stable limb and say this move will go down as an epic failure for Oakland. This is a QB whose heart isn't in playing the game. And a QB whose best days were clearly behind him. Carson Palmer will make Raiders fans sorely miss Jason Campbell.
The Bengals went into the season having traded away their vet receiver, started a rook at WR and QB, let their vet QB retire, and somehow have come out on top.
Raiders dude A: Let's pull this baby off! It's what Al would have wanted! Raiders dude B: Not to speak ill of the dead or anything, but Al, God bless his soul, wasn't exactly the sanest of people, you know? Raiders dude A: Dude, didn't you hear me? It's what Al would have wanted. Let's pull this baby off!
UPDATE: There’s some confusion out there regarding the question of whether the Raiders’ will sacrifice their first-round pick in 2013 (instead of their second-round pick) by winning a playoff game in 2011. Per a source with knowledge of the transaction, that’s an accurate assessment of the trade — if the playoff game that the Raiders win is in the divisional round. So if the Raiders are the first or second seed in the AFC playoff field (don’t laugh, it could happen), they have to win only one playoff game to lose a second first-round pick to the Bengals. If they land in the third, fourth, fifth, or sixth seed, the Raiders will need to win twice in the medal round to trigger the escalation of the pick. It should be noted at this point that Palmer never has won a playoff game in his career.
To be fair, the first one he had his knee ripped apart on his first pass attempt. And the second they lost to a possessed Jets team, I believe that was the first year after he had Tommy John surgery or whatever he got with his elbow.
Did anyone see Palmer during the press conference today? What a lifeless ***** whipped pile of washedupedness. No heart.
Kyle Boller goes 7/14 61 0 TD 3 INT QBR 22.3. So naturally they go to the new wonder boy, Carson Palmer, who goes a whopping 8/21 116 0 TD 3 INT QBR 17.3. Against the Chiefs! Poor Al is rolling over in his grave
