    Eh, pointless, you have whom you have at this point, do find it interesting that those who feel things are going in the wrong direction point to Parcells leaving as "proof" that they are going in the wrong direction when in fact..player acquisition has been merely "good" under Parcells nothing more from a Draft pov.

    We stopped missing on #1 picks but the meaty picks, rds #2-#4 have been merely average at best. Which is one of the reasons why I like Ireland's work as the UDFA work has been outstanding and has made up partially for the whiffs like White and Murphy.

    I think both sides of the Long vs. Ryan argument have really good points. Thank God Long didn't turn out to be a Robert Gallery (#2 overall bust LT) or a Mike Williams (#4 overall bust LT).

    Well, Tuna was right about Big Jake he has been All Pro caliber from Day 1 and the Salary Cap was a reality in 2008 so a #1 overall bust would have been devestating for a franchise coming off of a 1-15 season..it is just sometimes I'd like to see them push in on a gamble pick..and have it pay off.

    As for P White I suspect it was a Institutional Decision and now Ireland and Parcells are taking sanctionless blame for making it, so what if they say "my bad"?

    It costs them nothing at all to take the blame, what fascinates me about the White pick is if the 2009 second rd is looked at the number of #2 picks from that yr who have already busted out is amazing:

    By my count 11 of those picks are busts or seriously underperforming or 33% or so of the entire draft class have simply not been productive, or have been waived or traded outright.

    It proves that the draft is an inexact science. Matt Ryan was not a consensus #1 pick, and I agree with Parcells, that a 1-15 team could not afford to whiff completely on the number 1 pick - and they didn't. How many others from that draft have been selected to the Pro Bowl every year?

    Wasn't everyone all over Parcells for not admitting "his mistake" on Pat White? Well, he just admitted. I think the anti-Parcells group is unhappy.

    I don't get the argument on Jake Long vs. Matt Ryan. It's like deciding between blond or brunette, when hell, I'd take whatever I can get. Jake Long is the best at his position. I'm stoked he's a Miami Dolphin.

    The Mandarich pick was over 20 years ago! People have been kicking that pick for a long time. I figured I'd leave the poor guy alone.

    Padre, I want to add a wrinkle to your post regarding the #2 round picks. Yes a good amount of them are underperforming. But you have to take into account the wisdom of the pick at the time it is made, and then the hindsight. The white pick was dumb when it was made, and was proven as such later. There are sound choices that do not turn out well. In this case the pick wasn't sound at all, from any perspective.

    Well JD, point taken about the wisdom at the time of the pick, however it is a performance business and in that particular draft second rd picks had an extraordinarily high failure rate so the thought process was unsound as Parcells acknowledges however the practical effect is we could have just as easily taken one of the other 10 or so #2 picks who did nothing either that particular draft was something of a stacked deck against usual #2 pick success.

    Taking SS24 effectively mitigated the White pick as he has started what..30 games the last two season?
