NOTE: This is apartial excerpt from a CLUB POST. I have posted only the first 5 points here, the full 11 points are available in Club. I wanted to give people in the main board a chance to read some of what I found looking at the stats this week.

    --------------------------

It's a Bye Week, so nurse this edition of "By The Numbers" like it's an $8 drink at a strip-club. Hopefully you can make it last 'til Sunday.

    "Making A Run For It"
    1) The boys in Aqua and Orange are tied for 11th in the NFL with 4.4 yards per rushing attempt. The 2007 average? Not as bad as you'd think, at 4.0 yds per rush, good for 15th in the NFL.

    "Passing Interest"
    2) The 2008 Dolphins rank 15th in the league with 7 yards per pass attempt. The 2007 stat line? A paltry 5.9 yards per pass, courtesy of a lot of backfield passes and checkdowns.

    "Charged Up"
    3) The scarier stat? The 2008 San Diego Chargers, the Dolphins' next opponent, lead the league with an average pass play of 9.3 yards. See what happens when you complement a great running game (translated "LT") with a big arm and actual wide receivers? No? Well, pull up a chair on Sunday, they may just show you.

    "Double-Checked For Accuracy"
    4) A 63.9% completion percentage by starter Chad Pennington is good for 13th in the NFL. Not bad considering the QB is just getting used to the playbook and receivers. Well, not bad until you realize that Brett Favre, operating under the same conditions, has completed 70.2% of his passes. That's right, Mr. Accuracy himself, Brett Favre, is ahead of Pennington. The quality of receivers may have a little to do with this, for one. Still, expect this to change as the season progresses. Chad remains the most accurate passer in the history of the league.

    "Strong Arm Tactics"
    5) Surely Favre's yards per pass completion is much higher than ol' "noodle-arm" Pennington too, right? Not so. Favre's averaging 7.5 yards per pass while Chad is posting an in-the-neighbourhood 7.1 yards per completion. The difference could possibly be attributed to better Yards-After-the-Catch efforts by the Jets' receivers.
