It was a two-horse race between the Bolts and Seahawks. Coordinator Greg Manusky, who was in San Fran with LaBoy, may have been the deciding factor. LaBoy racked up five sacks as a backup in Manusky's defense last year, and he should make a similar impact as a situational pass rusher in San Diego.

Bills OLB Aaron Maybin weighed in at 228 pounds when he reported to training camp.
He's just not taking this football thing seriously. Maybin was criticized for letting his weight get down to 235 late last season, and he showed up even lighter this year. He's not going to make it through September on the roster.

DE Ricky Sapp left the Eagles days ago on his own volition, a source tells beat writer Geoff Mosher.
The Eagles are deep at defensive end after adding Jason Babin, so they're not too worried about Sapp. He apparently did the same thing last year, making it surprising he still has a job. This time, his spot on the roster figures to be in real jeopardy.

49ers sent out a mass email this afternoon to teams around the league to try and trade safety Taylor Mays.

Not a passrusher per se, do think he can at least play Lb in the 4-3.

The Saints, Broncos, and Cardinals are all showing interest in free agent OLB Matt Roth.
Roth has been adamant about not playing in a 4-3 defense, which would seem to rule out New Orleans and Denver. (Barring a change of heart, of course.) Roth would make a lot more sense in Arizona if the Cardinals hadn't kept Joey Porter. Perhaps the Cards would reconsider Porter's fate if they acquired Roth.

This really surprises me, I thought Roth's time in Cleveland was positive and he played at a high level, alas, the NFL does not think so, or he has priced himself out of the market.

Patriots signed OLB/DE Mark Anderson, formerly of the Texans.
Anderson started his career with the Bears and had 12 sacks as a rookie, but fell behind Israel Idonije last season and was released. He then got a look with the Texans at the tail end of the year. He'll likely play outside linebacker in the Patriots' 3-4.

Anderson was strictly a DE in Chicago, he goes to NE and voila! He is now a passrushing OLB.

He'll have his hand in the dirt a lot more than that reporter thinks IMO.

Lions claimed DE/OLB Cody Brown off waivers from the Jets.
The 63rd pick in the 2009 draft, Brown couldn't make the transition to 3-4 outside linebacker with the Cardinals and Jets. For a 4-3 team like the Lions, he's worth a kick of the tires. Brown also has practice squad eligibility.

Guy has really bounced around, imho if he washes out in Detroit he should give the CFL a try and see if he can reinvent himself.

The Panthers have demoted RE Everette Brown out of the starting lineup in favor of Eric Norwood.
Coach Ron Rivera explained that Norwood passed Brown because he's been "more physical." Norwood, an undersized (6'0/246) former linebacker, was the 124th pick in the 2010 draft. Brown was the 43rd pick in the 2009 draft, and the Panthers traded a future first-round pick to get him. That pick turned out to be Mike Iupati, who looks like a future Pro Bowler in San Francisco

Inching closer to the scrap pile, I can recall E Brown beating Jake Long for a sack in the 09 preseason.

English will run with the second team, which is where he'll stay until he proves himself physically able to handle the rigors of an NFL season. Expectations for the No. 16 overall pick in 2009 should be limited.

Bears DE Corey Wootton will reportedly miss four weeks with meniscus damage in his right knee.
Last year's fourth-round pick was injured on the opening kickoff of the preseason opener Saturday night. Wootton reportedly to camp in peak condition and had been a "standout" in recent practices. The Bears hope to have him back by Week 1, but he's unlikely to be a factor in September. Vern Gholston's chances of making the roster improved

This is why players who bust out elsewhere try to stick on somewhere else..ya never know.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Buffalo Bills have decided to release former first-round pick LB Aaron Maybin. This move isn’t all that surprising considering that we’ve been posting plenty of reports suggesting that the move could be coming in the near future but it goes down as another failed investment for the Buffalo Bills.

Buffalo’s decision to bring in Chan Gailey as the teams head coach ultimately had a negative impact on Maybin since he would now have to move linebacker in stead of playing defensive end. Reports indicated that the Bills were trying to trade him for anything but weren’t able to find any takes which is why the move was made today.

After watching film review of the Colts' preseason opener, Phil B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star noted that the 2010 first-round pick Jerry Hughes "didn't do anything."
Hughes was a total non-factor during his rookie season, and Wilson is already using the term "bust" when describing his performances. "Hughes had better show something soon," Wilson writes. Hughes didn't help himself by getting arrested for public intox during the lockout. We're not saying he's in danger of missing the final cut, but Hughes has a long way to go to earn a role.

49ers waived OLB Thaddeus Gibson.
We'd heard multiple reports that Gibson was showing well in training camp, but he was never guaranteed a shot under the new coaching staff. They may have not liked his special teams contributions. Gibson should have a decent shot at being claimed on waivers. He's due minimum salaries through 2012.

The Bears have had discussions about pursuing OLB Aaron Maybin, who was waived by the Bills on Monday, sources tell the Chicago Tribune.
The Bears are hot on the trail of busted former high draft picks this offseason. After adding Vernon Gholston and Amobi Okoye, Maybin would be their toughest reclamation project yet. It's very difficult to see him playing defensive end in the Bears' 4-3 at just 228 pounds. The Bears select 29th in the waiver process

This should tell folks that the Bears are sort of hurting for talent, they keep adding Top 10 draft pick bust types, maybe Benson working out for the Bengals has taught them a lesson?

Indy is going crazy right now, wonder if Mathis or Freeney are injured?

Sure looks like it, they are trying everyone "but" Jerry Hughes, would not surprise if he is traded prior to the season opener.

And AFAIK, A Maybin signed with the Jest, have not seen that one confirmed but rumors were everywhere.
