So, He has Golden Tate going at 21 and Dez Bryant at 25? Where the hell does Kirwin get his insight? Pete Pricko? Armando?
I think he is fy...the problem is guys like him are liable to go Randy Moss at any moment and are real PITA's to deal with which disrupts a team.
You know, that's fine (He IS that good btw) and I love Golden Tate....in like the middle of the second round. If Bryant isn't "That good" Tate doesn't even belong in the draft IMHO.
Exactly, I'm not feeling the Tate love to begin with, imho he is OJ McDuffie Jr but who cannot catch the ball as well Juice could.
Makes me want to vomit. I'm 100 percent onboard with Earl Thomas at #12. OLB is deep this year. But the thought of Graham going to the Pats and seeing him twice a year makes me sad. As for Dez Bryant, no doubt he fell here due to the latest reports about him at OSU. I would not be surprised at him falling if that stuff sticks.
I believe Brandon started 27 games in his college career.. 29 sacks and 57 tackles for loss in 27 games..ridiculous production..Muck, if the Patriots get my boy, iam gonna lose it man.
Except he played in more than just 27 games, so those stats are spread out over much more than just 27 starts.
That would be 27 starts Deej. But if does wind up with the Patsies we do have Big Jake to deal with him. The pick the "experts" hated...
I could see the 1st 12 picks going like that. I'd prefer Bryant, but I wouldn't complain about Thomas.
9. Bills - Rolando McClain 10. Jaguars - Eric Berry 11. Broncos - Dan Williams That would suck. McClain, Berry, and Williams are surely at the top of Miami's wish list. However its amazing that Earl Thomas and Dez Bryant would still be options.
I would say that Pat could have some connections with Miami and that's how he came to put Earl Thomas to us but knowing what I know about his training camp visit to Miami, him putting Earl to us is unsurprising. His biggest issue with the Miami Dolphins in 2009 and this was before the season even opened, was the fact that we were trying to get away with having two "buzz" safeties as he called them instead of a free safety and a strong safety.
Miami won't draft Earl Thomas. They will not take a weak run defending safety, period. If Miami drafts a safety at 12, it will be Chad Jones, who is a better prospect than Earl Thomas anyway.
I think you are all alone on a desert island with that belief. Not that it's ever bothered you before. I do admire you for sticking to your convictions and speaking out on what you believe. Ok, but if the Dolphins did draft Thomas, would you admit you were wrong? Heck, I doubt anyone else considers Chad Jones even the #3 safety, let alone #2. Maybe Wes Bunting. His safety rankings are the most out of kilter IMO. IMO, the 3rd safety in this draft is Nate Allen.
Hey, what was Earl Thomas' measurements at the combine anyways? Was he 5'8 180 like you kept saying? Ehh scratch that, I already know the answer. He measured in a hair above 5'10 and weighed 208.
He also ran a 4.54 forty, which shows that he put on weight and lost some speed. Based on his film and how tiny he looks on film and the fact that he has never met a block he could handle and rarely makes tackles on runners at the LOS, it's obvious to me that he played at a lighter weight and is not a physical player.
You conveniently left out his height measurement, and that was the real kicker in debates. As for the weight, I am sure he did try to add to his frame. With that said, I don't think he added all 28 lbs of that before the combine(basing it off your 180 number). That 5'10 and a hair measurement really helped his draft status.
I corrected that for you. I would accuse you of just being bad with numbers, but every single numerical error you've made on anything to do with Earl Thomas has only gone in one direction, whichever direction doesn't favor Earl. And he also ran a 4.44 on the 2nd run. I doubt he stopped at the bathroom and unloaded 5 lbs of urine before doing so.
The 4.44 was an unofficial time. I attribute that to being late on the stop watch. Whatever he weighed in at, it doesn't discount what is on film. The film shows that he is a very weak run defender from the safety position. Wes Bunting has the best scouting report out of anyone on him right now:
See? Anyone can take the same report and highlight what suits them. Your new friend Wes Bunting is probably the only draft analyst for a major web site who has Thomas as the 10th overall safety and 6th free safety.
I'm sure at least unnamed person here will say these times aren't right. But I crosschecked their numbers last year with those of the combine master report when I saw it and they were pretty close, usually the same. http://www.footballsfuture.com/2010/combine/s.html
But they would be late on the finish as well then probably. I mean the start on the official times is hand started as well. It seems pretty cheap/bias to try and attribute the "late start" as the reason for inaccuracy when it is present in both the official and unofficial times.
You have absolutely no basis for that whatsoever, other than that you don't like Earl Thomas. You've never once questioned his speed, only his size and physicality. Only now that you see 4.53 and 4.44 unofficial times for him, you blatantly assume the 4.53 is correct and the 4.44 is a mismeasurement, simply because it's more convenient to the "Earl Thomas sucks at life" argument. This is why literally nobody listens to you on this subject. I've not been comfortable with Earl Thomas as a safety prospect and so I should be on your side in this whole thing. But listening to you argue about him is like starting out a Republican, watching five straight days of Fox News, and coming out an Independent or even a Democrat.
Who gives a $hit...we all get caught up in micro micro micro seconds in a controlled environment........comparable to the other guys running in the same environment the guy is fast enough...you look at the tape......the guy is fast enough and in instinctive in most opinions, mine included. Your right in the NC game Johnson got a hold on him on one play and Peek got a hold of him on couple of plays...so what ...not many disengage from those guys... you look at much film and no one generally gets to him and when a WR or back does ..... most of the time he does get off the block...and who is going to make a decision based on a hash corner or safety for gods sake disengaging...it is a SAFETY...not an OLB or DL...it is a Safety.........
once FA settles down.....then I am willing to revisit biggest remaining need on team, and relate it to biggest value on the board @ 12 (if we still have the 12th pick).....too early still to get a true feel. But getting closer to knowing the vibe.
So, just because he is a safety, his obvious short comings in the run game should be completely ignored because "he's a safety"? So safeties aren't supposed to make an impact in run defense? You should tell that to Eric Berry, who is a stud vs the run. You should also let Chad Jones know that, who is also a stud against the run. In college, Earl Thomas was very weak against the run. In the NFL, he will be a liability against the run.
Well, signing Dansby simply means Ro McClain is off the board for us at #12, which in theory means Thomas is more likely...but I don't think so..not that I would object to Thomas, more that I have a feeling we surprise people and go Offense at #12. Theory being there are so many OLB/DE types in this draft that we can take one at #43 and have as good a prospect as we could find at #12..more or less. As for KB...imho he is making the understandable mistake of watching a college player's game film and stopping there...the real trick is projecting a player into the NFL, football player's games adjust and adapt to the different world of the NFL, they never stay the same as they were in college.. In short, a missed tackle against Oklahoma does not mean he will forever miss tackles in the NFL..
It is a major stretch to think that Earl Thomas is going to develop into a stud against the run in the NFL.
Don't think he has to be a run stuffer KB, his primary job is ballhawk and competent tackler not Kenny Easley Jr..
If you are taking a safety with the 12th pick, he better be a complete player and not a guy who is solid in coverage but a liability in the running game. There is a reason Eric Berry is considered a potential top 5 pick and Earl Thomas isn't even in the discussion that high. It's because Eric Berry is a complete safety that is as good against the run as he is against the pass. Earl Thomas is a guy that a few people have made it a point to fluff up. They gloss over his deficiences and enhance his good points to the point that they have convinced people to completely overlook the fact that he is a small safety that plays small. To me, it sounds a lot like those that ignored Pat White's lack of passing ability and fluffed him up because "he is a winner". On this board, Earl Thomas has very quickly become the most overrated player in this draft.
