A thread that covers the Patriots personnel moves.
For the first entry:
So the pats passed up on Cleo and Signed Ex Raider Andrew Walter for Brady's backup.

add Derrick Burgess to the list of Patriots.
Raiders | Burgess traded
Thu, 06 Aug 2009 15:01:35 -0700
Patriots.com reports the Oakland Raiders have traded DE Derrick Burgess to the New England Patriots for undisclosed draft considerations.padre31 likes this. -
The price was a 3rd and a 4th for Burgess,
Good OLB sort of lost in the suffle in Crazyland:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5510/career;_ylt=Aqsc_7ZXOvkiI1gCixqOtvD.uLYF
His game really picked up out in Oakland, made the pro bowl a couple of times, but he looks fairly inconsistent or put himself in Davis's doghouse
The Patsies apparently solved their OLB pass rusher problem -
-
If they rely on Burgess and he does not deliver, they have virtually no pass rush. -
And here is the guy released to make room for Burgess:

crap.

"Nothing short of loaded on both sides of the ball"
Naah... -

Pats cut their 3rd round pick from 2008:
-
What's kept them afloat is
1. They completely pulled a rabbit out of their hat with Brady in the 6th
2. Their OL drafts awhile back were money
3. The Wilfork pick
4. A heavy dose of the right FAscalphin likes this. -

The Ram's Bulger broke a finger so O'Connel may not make it past the Rams -

Wes Welker could miss week 1 with a "undisclosed injury"...azfinfanmang and anlgp like this. -

This must be flying under the radar. However, IMO it's significant since the Pats are already thin at LB.
Linebacker Shawn Crable has been placed on injured reserve with a groin injury, shelving him for the season. The second-year player from Michigan, a third-round pick last year, started 2008 on the PUP list before being put on IR with a shin injury so he still hasn't played in an NFL game.

Per Adam Schefter on ESPN's SportsCenter
The Patriots traded DE Richard Seymour to the Raiders for a 2011 first round draft pick.

Really dumb on the raiders IMO
Al Davis is constantly trying to do moves like this and look where it has gotten that team. -
Al Davis is rapidly making a case to be declared incompetent.

Pats with another move:

This is surprising and probably important:
Patsies Wr lineup

to me that means Edelman showed them he can play at a high level, high enough to chase off of a fine NFL pro in his prime.
http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/2009/09/greg_lewis_rele.html
It sounds like they gave up a 5th rd pick for Lewis/anlgp likes this. -
IIRC when the eagles snatched him up he's called practically every year to try to get reid to trade him and w/the eagles drafting two WRers recently I guess reid felt he had the necessary depth to make the move.
The eagles used that pick to select Fenuki Tupou who was placed on IR by Philly two days ago. -

Patriots Wr corps is really banged up:
-
"This week, as early as Monday, the Patriots are expected to sign 12-time Pro-Bowl linebacker Junior Seau, according to an NFL source.
Seau visited the Patriots last week and the two sides laid the groundwork for a deal to be completed this week that will allow the former Pro Bowl linebacker to play his 20th NFL season.
Now, after losing veterans such as Tedy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel, Rodney Harrison and Richard Seymour, the Patriots are turning back to one of their leaders."

There was a time when things like this never happened to the Pats:

i always remember pats losing a key person but hey, thats just me
sucks about edelman... -
