What a joke. I mean seriously, Jake Long top 5 tackle in the league replaced by a second rounder? Berardino is an arse clown. Right tackle = second best tackle on the team. Unless you are born with the talent and natural footwork to play LT, it takes a lot of work. Most are comfortable on the right.

What are we supposed to be stupid ? There should be one of those sportscenter specials about the south florida media...... some people just read too much into everything. Like the guy who said we gave up on Daniel Thomas the second we drafted Miller.

I don't believe the Dolphins would let a healthy Jake Long go in free agency next year. Unfortunately Long has had injuries the last two seasons which have caused his play on the field to suffer. Last season he had his worst year as a Dolphins since he was drafted and it was due to these injuries.
If Long comes back next season and plays to the level he did earlier in his career, I have no doubt that the Dolphins will sign him to a new contract. On the other hand, if he continues to sustain injuries which cause his play to diminish, I could certainly see the Dolphins being hesitant to sign him to another long term contract at a huge salary.
I think Long is the best LT in football, when he is healthy. So I certainly hope that he can get back to playing at his previous level and his season ending injuries are a thing of the past.GMJohnson likes this. -
If we had an elite QB I'd be fine not paying a LT what Long will make. However with a young QB like Tannehill to develop pass protection is going to be paramount. Long has to be retained.
-
I would suppose:
1) Jonathan Martin will compete with Lyndon Murtha for RT, both can play LT if necessary. so any way the competition works out, the tackle position is resolved.
2) Incognito, Jerry & Garner will compete for the starting guard positions. Garner & Incognito can go either way, Jerry is finally coming into his own. let them compete.
possible start:
Long-Garner-Pouncey-Incognito-Martin
whatever the end result of the competition, I am confident they will be coached up & be ready to provide the base we need on offense. everything starts in the trenches...gunn34 likes this. -
For the record, Berardino is just trying to get hits by writing the article the way he did, but there is some truth to his words. -
Wut?

My 9yo did a article on Booker T (a WWE wrestler) a year ago that was better written. -

So we're going to get rid of the best LT in the league because we drafted a rookie?

Drafted a RB too. That must mean Bush is on his way out. Also a TE, that must mean Fasano is on his way out...

there is a possibility that jake long is damaged goods. he does seem to be breaking down. hopefully he comes back healthy. that is the only way he would be phased out.

Totally agree.
BJ showed in that hour between picks that he just didn't have what it takes to succeed at the NFL level.

While Bush and Fasano are good bets to be on the 2012 roster. The fact is that will both be free agents after the 2012 season. Unless Bush has a very good season this year, I don't see the Dolphins signing him to another five million dollars a year contract. The drafting of Miller just might be the Dolphins way of looking out beyond the 2012 season and seeing that Miller just might be Bush's replacement in 2013.
Fasano also will have competition from Egnew and Clay for playing time and while I expect him to start in 2012 because he is the superior blocker right now. There is no assurance that the Dolphins will be interested in spending the money to sign him again after the 2012 season.
It appears the Dolphins are trying to build through the draft and to get younger, while also putting themselves in a position to have plenty of cap room after this season to sign some quality free agents.
If Bush and Fasano have outstanding seasons in 2012, the Dolphins will have plenty of money to resign them. If they don't have the type of season the coaching staff expects from them, the players the Dolphins picked in this years draft will be sitting there to take their place and their salaries will be far less than Bush and Fasano will be looking for in free agency.
"Long-led line?" Last time I checked, the center made the line calls, and Long was on the extreme left end of the line playing tackle. I guess he was supposed to make his block and come over to the right to block the guys the Twin Turnstiles were letting through, too?
What kind of an editorial staff lets this kind of crap be published?

Could Jake Long be on the way out if he is injury-plagued next season? Sure, it's the NFL, but I doubt it. An injured Jake Long is still a better than your average tackle in the league.
Secondly, in Jeff Ireland's post-draft presser, he clearly shows his cards when it comes to Long and Martin, stating that Martin was drafted to play RT. OF COURSE Martin will move to LT if Long is injured (or not re-signed). This is basic. This is a smart draft pick, and might be the most solid pick of this year's draft.
The media (is it just SoFla media??) embellishes the obvious.

I like how I'll Jeffy stopped JUST short of calling Bernardino an *******.
Hopefully. Bush and Fasano account for almost 10 million in cap space. They both have no future with the team.
