After last nights bore fest on mnf I'm not surprised Gruden wants to go... my God the NFL doesn't know how to schedule primetime games.

It's Jason Cole, but that to me solidifies what I thought would be the case about this notion that Jon Gruden is now "off the table" because of his ESPN extension.
Gruden and Cowher are both looking at Miami. They're not fools, they know Andrew Luck could be coming here. -

Coaches look like geniuses when they have an elite QB. If we get luck, we'll have the pick of the coaching litter.

Gruden or Cowher?
Put yourself in Stephen Ross' shoes and try and make that call. I think personally, if we were in position to draft Andrew Luck, I'd probably lean Gruden. Then again, Cowher's teams were known for great defenses, so if he had a QB like Luck we could have a great D AND an Elite offense.
Or did I just make a great case for an NFL HC not meaning **** if you have a Superstar QB?Pandarilla likes this. -
One aspect of this whole fiasco regarding the soon to be (at season's end, probably) active coaching search is just what Gruden proclaimed for all to hear on the MNF game. There would be a certain amount of satisfaction, and even more, notoriety, to be gained for the coach who resurrects the nearly dormant Miami Dolphins, and restores them to anywhere near the status they had under Shula. The immediate comparison would be made and cast them within the pantheon of the greatest coaches of the NFL universe were that to be the result of their assuming the leadership of the team. That would not be an inconsiderable inducement to a person with the drive to become an NFL coach.

Just so Ireland and Sparano are nowhere near the Dolphins in 2012.....

I can't comprehend the sudden correlation between Luck and Gruden or Cowher.. This team has young talent and the regardless of what anyone says, still plays in a very desirable, beautiful market. Of course Luck gives us a POTENTIAL franchise QB, but he also brings a ton of pressure to not only develop in to an All-Pro quickly, but to win..
I think these guys would love to come to Miami with or without Luck. He isn't the only good QB in this draft, and we are far from guaranteed the 1st pick.. Just look at what happened to Indy last week.. 62-7.. -

HEH... maybe we'll get them both, Cowher as HC, Gruden as OC... ........ ......... ........... ........

Bet your *** having a shot at him makes this place desirable. The test will be if we somehow win a few games, and pick 4th or 5th, if they still want to end up here. -
As much as we think this franchise is in the dumps, Miami is still one of the most desirable markets to play and coach in.... We will land a top tier coach. If that coach refuses to join a team because they don't have Andrew Luck then good riddance, I don't want them here even if we draft Andrew Luck.PhinishLine likes this. -

That said, does anyone else think that our star would lose it's luster with either of these guys if Luck is not going to be in the picture...say, Indy or whoever gets into the fray ?? -

If we have the #1 draft pick after week 17 I'll be much less worried about the coach. Even though Jones and RG3 seem good, they'd obviously need some more work than Luck.
If we're in position for Luck though, I'm not as worried about coach. -
would love to see cowher or gruden in miami along with Luck

And, if we're lucky enough to get Andrew Luck... it really won't matter if Ross hires Gruden, Cowher, or Fisher. We'd win with any of those 3. -
I am curious about Jeff Fisher...he has not won a Super Bowl but came oh so close. Shula lost in the Super Bowl with the Colts then won it twice with the Dolphins...(Doesn't mean it would happen again)
I guess Cowher would be my pick of the two. But really, as long as we get Andrew Luck I don't mind either of the 3. -

Some of you guys KILL me!!!
Jason Cole reports this so...it's good!!!
Jason Cole reports something else? "Pfft, he's just a sports reporter, he doens't know"

Jason Cole posting something untrue, does not make it convert to truth.
Now, Jason Cole reporting truth does not change it's veracity.
Right now this thread is operating as if this report is accurate and inferring what would be the result. The other thread posited that it was accurate simply because someone else reported it.MrClean likes this. -

I'm not worried about Gruden as a head coach. I am worried if he has authority over the entire franchise.Nappy Roots likes this. -

Maybe we take a shot with one as head coach and the other as assistant head coach without Jon? -
Enough rookie NFL head coaches. Part of the problem.
-
I like Jonny Gru but he already signed an extension with ESPN. I'll take Cowher and let him bring Steelers connections over here and built and run a team like the Steelers.
-
The problem is that if you're going to build a team like the Steelers, the Rooneys have to own it, not a clueless dingbat like Ross.

Give him 4 or 5 years to get some experience and then he'll be a solid HC somewhere else, but he's got to put his time in. No one goes from O line coach to HC over night - it just doesn't happen, and if it wasn't for Tuna's enormous ego it wouldn't have happened.
TS is clearly in over his head right now and its Tuna fault....by the way where is he? Exactly my point. -
Cowher all night long .... tough, hard nosed, and is not afraid to innovate on offense ... lastly, hires GOOD coaches - something we have a dearth of right now!
Gruden, whilst a character .... won with another man's team, even though he did have a nice run with the RAIDAS before bolting to TB.
