So, are we allowed to blame IReland for this one, or was this one of those ocassions where he was locked in his bedroom or out sick when Parcells picked the abd players?
I just want to make sure I'm directing my ire at the right guy...GARDENHEAD and PhinsRDbest like this. -

I can remember watching DJax at the combine. That absolutely sold me on him. Dude was crazy at the workouts. -
-
But yes, he's just like every GM in the league, except for the really good ones who hit on a 2nd rounder from time to time -

Consistently missing on Second Rounders is a valid criticism of Ireland.
Daniel Thomas was statistically one of the worst running backs in football last year. And don't blame the o-line. Reggie Bush ran behind the same line. If Koa Misi doesn't take a major step forward this year, he too will be a second-round bust. -

Finding out about the BPD was a positive step, if anything, as through therapy and treatment he might've been able to control the problem.
In short, Marshall didn't do anything differently here than he did in Denver. If the risk was acceptable to you then, then it should have continued to be acceptable.HardKoreXXX likes this. -
There was no valid reason to believe that Marshall's issues were the result of a disease. There are plenty of players that act out the way Marshall did, and those issues generally go away with a big contract or change of scenery. In Marshall's case, he has a disease that makes it very hard to behave the way a professional athlete needs to behave. -

Interesting on who we could have taken in the 2nd rounds over the past few years...

One, they're fast. Speed in the NFL is pointless.
Two, they're exciting. The NFL is NOT about entertaining the fans.
Three, they're not huge, lumbering guys. If they're not big and slow, how can they succeed in this league? -
-
Well, he had those same issues in Denver for guys not named Jay Cutler. And he had many problems with coaches in Denver, including Shannahan, before McAdolescent ever came to town.
He seemed to be doing ok here for the most part, outside of the incident with his wife which then led to the diagnosis. Part of being in management is managing talented people. Marshall is talented enough that you manage the problem, rather than trading him for ten cents on the dollar. Lots of teams learn to deal with high maintenance guys if the payoff is big enough -
The fact that other crappy GMs have made similar mistakes doesn't make Ireland good. The whole goal should be to find a GM who makes less of those mistakes -
I still have yet to get a plausible reason that Ireland would have autonomy while Parcells was here. I've not seen a single valid argument Ireland didn't have to follow Parcells blueprint while Parcells was his boss. -
