Who I would like to see stay:
Beck
Brown
Lo Booker
Ginn
Carey
Satele
Wright
Roth
Crowder
J Allen
W Allen
Feely
That's a paltry 12.
Here are some guys I hope and think can improve enough to stay
Hadnot- depends on how much $ he wants, his lack of discipline (penalties) and consistency mitigates against a big payday
Mormino
Toledo-hasn't shown anything but that he can't even get out of a hottub safely, but has considerable athletic ability
Marquay Love (I think he is a project who can surprise to the upside)
Lemon--I doubt he stays
R Williams
Chatman
Mauia
Soliai--has tools but poor technique
Pope (good player but doubt he fits Ireland and Parcells' prototype)
Lehan, good extra d-back
Bell-not under contract and coming off injury
Fields--may improve
Porter--played well second half of year, and should have some gas left in tank
That's another 13. Figure 5-6 of them fit in.
Holiday, Thomas, Taylor, M Booker: solid to great players but my guess is their age moves them out of town one way or another.
No thank you: Hagan, Shelton, Liwienski, Martin, Peelle, Spragan, et al
That would be a total of 17-18 guys that may still be here in a couple of years. So we have to find what, 30 guys over the next couple of years?
If we draft well, we could get half of them through the draft. Another 4 or 5 a year in free agency, and that is what will happen. We obviously need loads of help up and down the roster, but quarterback, receiver/tight end and defensive line are dramatic problem areas. But o-line, linebackers and secondary are also going to need lots of help. It's pretty pathetic when you break it down.

while there are no definites, I would imagine possibly within the next two weeks, you will begin to hear who won't be returning as Sparano, Ireland, and Parcells have the oppurtunity to work together on a full talent evaluation. I think certain players are much more likely to be in the safe zone given, the cap hit we would take if we lost them, and/or their future potential. Off the top my head the obvious people likely to be out would be Green, Lemon, Traylor, and further down the line I'd say there are big question marks over the heads of Ricky Williams, and Zach Thomas.
I'm fairly confident we will see Ginn and Beck return, and most likely Ronnie and Jason unless an exceptional offer arises for either of them.
Really though I could easily see the majority of the roster up in the air for next season. It all depends on how many quality people we can obtain via trade and draft, I still think the effects of this restructuring won't be totally evident until the 09 season. -
I liked Sparano's comment of "we WILL be a disciplined football team". It's about darn time!!!

I agree Passrusher. The number of penalties, lack of conditioning, and poor clutch play were symptamatic of a poorly disciplined team. I remember fondly when Shula had this team the least penalized year in and year out, and a team that was well conditioned.

e.g. better zone CB's versus better man to man players etc.
Parcells and his ideals for teams he works for typically take a year to occur historically speaking. -
I really hope that what Tony says, he means. Nothing he has done so far leads to believe that he doesn't. He looks and sounds like a football guy and that is something this team has lacked in a long time as head coach. Wanny, Saban, and Cam weren't that. They seemed more front office types and not FOOTBALL GUYS. Tony seems to be that way so players should take heed.
This team has had a lot of ego's and players that didn't leave it on the field and from what I get from Tony they won't be playing. The penalty's have been horrid and aside from Zach and Jason this defense can't say they left it on the field like they have. The offense is young and changing so much that between that and injuries never had a chance. But the team should be in shape and play to the whistle on every play and be smart. Other coaches say it but for the last two years we've stunk. Holding, pass interferance, off sides and block in back continue far to regularly with this team.
I guess we'll see come next year if Sparano is all talk but he appears to be the right choice and an excited to see the players that are cut and who are brought in. Tired of being excited about the new coaches and hope this is it for awhile.
