Matt was 2-1 in 3 road games to cold weather climates. I don't think Manning would've faired any better.

The thing is with a guy of that caliber, you never know. He was 14-2 in his last year in Indy and the team was 2-14 the following year...that tells you how much he can carry a team. We really would have had a shot at the Super Bowl, which is why that article sort of made me sad. Some things are just better left unsaid.

Moore was amazing though- so no regrets here. But still, Manning as our QB1 for a stretch of about 6 games? That would have been incredible.

 

The guy who last had the worst passer rating in the NFL, that had the worst season passer rating of any super bowl winning QB, was gonna take us to the Super Bowl. The QB who looked so bad, that Brock Osweiler made himself millions because he looked good sitting next to it.

If Manning had taken that hit Moore took, he would be dead. So we definitely wouldn't have made it to the super bowl.

 

Totally agreed. Moore looked like a carnie who had fallen asleep in the opium tent in that game. Fumbles, bad passes, etc. He was done.

Putting aside the "what if" argument, that text seems to suggest that Gase wasn't as confident about Moore as we may have thought. Makes me wonder if an impressive showing by a young QB could change our back-up QB plans.

 

Manning would have been great 4 years ago, but given his inability to push the ball down the field defenses would have sold out to stop Ajayi and made him beat us.

Plus given out line issues at the end if last year he may not have lasted too long either.

 

From the article, I assumed Gase made the call in week 15...shortly after Tannehill went down in week 14. So I figured that he was trying to get Manning for weeks 16 & 17, plus four playoff games as we marched for the Super Bowl. I do agree with others though, our line was bad at the end and our defense was horrible.....probably a good thing that Manning wasn't interested.

It would have been the story of the year though and put us in the national spotlight.

 

Im willing to bet not a coach on the staff was disappointed in what Matt Moore brought to the Dolphins after Ryan went down. Before Gase saw MM go on the road twice in 2 hostile environments and clinch the playoffs for us? Then maybe he wasn't so sure...but after doing that? Nah, his job is very safe.
