I don't blame Philbin for this one. Our offense needed to get some more points, the defense was great just got beat by a few amazing plays by Detroit. The refs helped in the end.

 

This D needs to go....they've let down the team twice, late in close games....the D f*(&*(d this up....not just Philbin...

 

so let's say they throw it and get two incompletes and gives Detroit even more time to score, what's the difference? we still give the ball back and with more time. maybe if the oline blocked in this game..... or even on the 3rd and 5 play...

 

You DO NOT call ****ing defensive timeouts on final drives period no discussion same thing during the Green Bay game. We are literally 7-2 if Philbin doesn't **** up the simplest time management duties. Jesus ****ing Crist

All I'll say is this. Detroit is a good football team, but that's a game we should have won.

I think what is disappointing for me is that it was the exact same crash and burn from the Packers game. There were no lessons learned. We had the ball with 4 mins. We ran the ball on 2 straight downs causing them to use TOs. That's cool with me. We try and get the first down on 3rd down and don't get it. That sucks, but it's OK...still though offensively we didn't get it done...Fail again...with a differences.

Defensively, we can't make a stop. We play coverage. We blitz. We man up. We have a 3rd and long, a 2nd and long, a 3rd and 4, multiple chances to stop them and don't do it. Hardly any pressure that entire drive. But, we did the same failures.

Then coaching...we call a timeout with 43 seconds left when they have a 2nd and 4? Why? I don't get it. I don't understand calling the TO right there. Just a poor job...not to mention we use OUR last TO.

This was a game I thought would be close and I thought the Lions would probably win. It's a shame that the Dolphins couldn't make the plays in the final 4 minutes to win the game.

The offense couldn't get one first down and the Dolphins defense once again allowed an offense to take the ball down the field and score a TD in the final minute of the game.

This team just doesn't know how to close out a close game.

As far as Philbin is concerned, he isn't at fault that the offensive and defensive players can't perform in the closing minutes of a tight game. That is entirely on the players and no one else.

My view on Philbin is the same as it has been all along. This team needs to win at least 10 games this season or make the playoffs as a 9-7 wildcard team for Philbin to keep his job.

I don't see this team beating the Broncos or Patriots, so all they have to do for Philbin to keep his job is to win the five games against the Jets (2), Bills, Ravens, and Vikings.

This Thursday night against the Bills is probably the most important game of the season for this Dolphins team.

 

I don't get this mentality. Sometimes, games have low scores. One week you throw 6 TD's the next week you get outplayed by Mike Vick. The NFL has huge standard deviations on its averages. Teams don't go out and score 30 PPG by scoring exactly 30 points every game. Given the chance to go up 7 with 5 minutes left, you go for it on 4th down. If you fail, they have to go 90+ yards. If they do score, you have time left. You're tied if they fail. The game winning drive took 2:44. If it takes that long in the face of a turnover on downs, you still have 2 minutes or so. Statistically, the 4th down is actually good for taking chances.

It's been modeled, 4th and 1 or 2 at all points on the field is a go for it situation (although somebody has to fail and everyone is too risk averse to do that, including me). Not until you get to 4th and 7 should you be kicking a field goal that close to the end zone.

I said the same thing. Play like you're down 3 and not up 3 and probably win the game. Sickening

 

He might have if he had Tannehill as his QB and not Brady. When you have one of the best QB's of all time, you can take risks that you aren't willing to take with an average QB.

I remember watching the Browns under Belicheck and they played a much more conservative offense than he does now. It helps when you have a franchise QB you can count on to make the plays, as opposed to a QB who has yet to show after 41 starts that he can make the plays necessary to win, late in the game.

Perhaps Tannehill will eventually become a better QB late in games, but so far he is well below average when the game is on the line in the 4th quarter.
