So long Lou, you gave it a good try while you were here. (FYI, for those who care, former Cubs great Ryan Sandberg is rumored to be the frontrunner for the job. He has paid his dues by managing in the Cubs farm system at A, AA, and now at AAA.)
Well Lou isn't leaving until the end of the Cubs season, and Ramirez will continue to help your team, as long as he remains healthy.
That team is enough to drive even the best in to retirement. Too many similar players, a couple of horrible contracts as well as attitudes (Soriano and Zambrano), and no bullpen.
I agree with everything, except for the no bullpen comment. They have one of the best closers in the game in Marmol(he has his bad days like every closer), and a-lot of young arms learning on the job. Inconsistent at times, yes, but a bad bullpen, no.........
A closer is only part of the bullpen. The pen has been a problem for years for the cubs. While Marmol is good closer it takes more then a good closer to have a good bullpen. They have issues outside of Marmol.
Rynne Sandberg would be an interesting replacement. Dont know how he is as a coach but he was a great ballplayer. So long Lou. You had a great career
I really REALLY hope Sandberg doesn't become the next manager. We've had enough over-managing with Lou and that will only get worse and small ball will NOT work with this team. As for Bullpen. Marshall, Marmol and Cashner are more than solid. Jay Jackson will be called up eventually to go into the bullpen. The bullpen is not the issue.
Who would you like to see manage? I feel Sandberg has paid his dues coaching in the minors, and deserves a shot. Agreed, as I stated before, the bullpen is the least of this teams worries.
I wouldn't mind seeing Fredi Gonzalez or Bobby V take the wheels. My #1 is Alan Trammell though. Out of everyone I want to see him take over the team even though he has said on a few occasions that he doesn't have a desire to manage but that could have been PC talk while Lou was still coaching.
