He had a brief affair with this woman in 2003. She claimed she was pregnant and he paid for an abortion. Then it got worse. A witness seems to rule out those claims. The FBI also believes them to be bogus. The school and his family apparently have known about this for a long time. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4392828&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines
Pitino targeted for... Please, he was bagging that lady in the restaurant bathroom and paid for her to abort the child, now he knows he is in deep doo-doo and is trying to spin this.
Sounds like a classic case of a celebrity/athlete having consensual sex with someone who later realized they could make a bunch of money out of the deal. If this chick had actually gotten rapped she should have went to the police, and then sued him if she wanted to clean him out.
He's apparently claiming he paid for insurance, not the abortion. Who knows. Regardless, he can't force her to have an abortion. Paying her off would be more believable if it was bigger than 3 grand. Reads a lot like extortion to me.
How much insurance would 3,000 buy, and why would Pitino prepay for "insurance"? To me he got caught in something tawdry and now is spinning, or trying to spin his way out of the mess he created.
I'm not sure where the $3000 claim from, her side or his. I'm sure he's in damage control mode, and probably tried to put it to bed for a long time. But it seems like she and her (later) husband were going after him. The FBI seems to have her dead to rights by her own statements to them. I think a lot of us know what it's like to make a bad decision and have it follow us around.
I think putting her to bed was the problem in the first place... Yeah it sounds like she was trying to get her pocket filled, but it's been a one sided media conversation so it is impossible to say one way or another. Hmm..perhaps an alias such as Ron Mexico may have helped him avoid all of this?
