He's a solid player depending on the price. He's in his prime, getting older but right there and if he wants to be here than sure that improves the situation.

More than a big hitter. Just ask Mcgahee and White.

The steelers pass defense was simply atrocious in 2009, why pick up yet another older safety who helped a secondary to play poorly?

Did we not learn the Gibril Wilson lesson yet?

Successful player=better FA signing, no need to make excuses why the unit was crappy, just sign better players.

As soon as one says "yes their pass defense was bad.."but".." walk..no..run..away from that player..

i dont think its so much irelands taste as it is this guy passed on teams that werent going to provide him a competitive chance and we dont have a lot of options out there..

sounds like he couldve banked already but passed on a chance to play for a team that has a bright future. sign him up now.

Yea he's actually a pretty nice upgrade that wasn't on the radar and it's not like Denver is gonna be good anytime soon  I'm really liking this, smart move by Ireland/Parcells/whoever thought of it. IMO

Good hitter with descent instincts.I'd rather have him for the money compared to a name like Sharper at the age of 34 for the cash he will be demanding.
    I say do it !

Do you even know what Sharper is demanding? I'm fairly sure Clark will get paid more overall even if Sharper gets slightly more for a couple of years.

Does it matter? Clark is still a good FS. He will improve our secondary.

Wilson was simply craptacular, yet Clark rated even worse, think about it.

Wilson was craptacular in coverage. Clark wasn't. He was very good. And that's what we need, someone who is good in coverage.

Clark by all accounts was solid from Steeler fans and fans are usually a solid indicator. His PFF rankings are solid as well. He's an above average free safety.

So we could poison pill Atogwe, or stop gap Sharper. But we choose to sign Ryan Clark? Maybe the FO thinks he knocked out Pat White too.

Rated via PFF though. Their ratings are not gospel.

For proof: They have Ginn's blocking rated higher than Bess'.

Everyone is really underrating Ryan Clark. He's an above average Free Safety. And one that can hit, too. Ask Wes Welker.

Ryan Clark's completion percentage in his zone is 5th in the league with 38%.

Gibril is 58% good enough for 32nd in the league.

Atogwe would be ideal but St Louis would be foolish not to match any offer.

    I'd be happy with Clark.

No he's a free safety. He could play strong safety if need be but I doubt they do that.

So what are your thoughts on Darren Sharper? I'm asking because New Orleans' pass defense ranked 26th last season. Pittsburgh's 16th.
