From what I am reading, it sounds like Ryan Clark's agent forced him outn of Pitt. He's asking for top dollar. If that's true, he's not going to be a Dolphin either.

Depends what top dollar means. Why wouldn't he be a Dolphin? We're not a cheap franchise. We pay quite a bit.

    Contract guesses anyone?

We offer a 27 year old FS who is our first choice 5, 32m. This guy is 30 so I'd bet the deal is 3, 17m but it may be higher. I personally think Clark is better.

Only thing that worries me about Clark, is he seems to be a bit wreckless with his hitting at times. Sure he's completely layed out some guys over the last few years, but with how the league is getting with protecting defenseless receivers, you have to wonder how many 15 yarders this guy is going to get nailed for.

By the sounds of things though, seems like Clark might be the next to join the phins. Personally I'd prefer Atogwe, but... I can live with this I guess.

i was refering to both dansby and clark.

but porter wasnt a problem imo. 17.5 sacks was nice. he played out of position on a horrible team his first year. and this past year he is regressing due to age imo.....

Oh I agree with the part about "not gospel", I also think we could and should do better than Clark.

Clark does get banged up quite a bit. But we do have decent depth with Clemons and Culver.

    From a knowledgeable Steelers' fan.

Combining that with his quotes from the first post, I think we could do a lot worse (Wilson). He sounds like a stand up guy, and the type of player that should be a Miami Dolphin. I would have rather had Sharper but it doesn't look like we are as interested in him. I can definitely, definitely live with Dansby and Clark highlighting our FA class.

I know PFF isn't gospel but there are still some consistent things that can be read in there. Even they say to not read much into their OVERALL rankings as it's subjective. Gotta dig deeper.

According to what you just posted having Clark would give us 2 guys in the TOP 16 in Coverage (Culver at 14). Consider me crazy but isn't that what you want from a FS...be good in coverage. 13th in tackles. Tied for 41st with 7 others in number of tackles missed. WR's don't catch many balls in his area (65th in of receptions in his area (83rd in % caught!).....Bell was 7th!). Ryan is also a solid tackler only allowing 15 YAC (Bell for exampled allowed 191 YAC, Wilson 99 YAC).

What I see from PFF at least is a guy who isn't going to contribute much against the run, but as a last line of defense does a very solid job.

    Best stat:

Ryan Clark was 6th in the league last year in QB rating against with only 36.2. Wilson was 57th and Bell 29th.

I personally would rather us make a move for Atogwe, but if we signed Clark it would be one less position to worry about in the first 3 rounds. It would also make drafting a OLB with #12 more likely, unless they are in love in D Williams.

the wreckless hitting is what I like about Clark
It is called the intimidation factor
i would take a few big penalties to ensure that opposing receivers will be scared to death to cross the middle of our defense
once you blindside someone like that in a football game guys are going to be aware that a guy like Clark is out there

I loved the Louis Oliver, Jarvis Williams tandem. Sure you might catch a pass over the middle but I promise you, your going to get laid out. I watched opposing receivers arms get shorter and shorter as the game wore on. What I'm trying to say Is Ill take penalty from time to time as long as we can once again strike some fear in the hearts of the opposing receivers.

I don't mind Clark. I just hope that we don't overpay for him. I would agree that he's probably in the "above average" category, and he's already 30. So, I don't want us to come near Rolle's contract numbers. But I think he's a definite upgrade to Wilson.

I'm just not sure this guy is the answer, but if the Phins' brass likes him, I'll accept it. It does open up our draft options a whole lot more. We would then know for certain we would be addressing two positions prominently in the draft:

    NT and OLB.

For the right price I wouldn't mind. He's not a long term solution either, WR and Safety will be addressed in the next 2 drafts in my opinion.

Well there is 1 thing I hope all us Dolphin fans can agree on. Clark is an upgrade over Wilson. Therefore we will have improved our team. (If he signs)

Pat White is not amused. Solid pickup if finalized.

We get an NT, we can go LB WR in the draft.

We get a WR, we can go LB NT in the draft. We need to address one more need pre-draft (in addition to closing the deal on Clark) before I get a REAL good feeling about this offseason.

The guy I still like in the draft is May's. I know I'm in the minority on him though. He reminds me a lot of Louis Oliver.

I like Clark and he's much much better then Wilson. I texted 2 knowledgable friends who are steelers fans and here are their responses.

"Intimidating safety, avg coverage man, hard hitter. His hits coming more so against the pass than the run"

    And

"He hits hard and is tough, gets burned sometimes"

We already have a SS type in Bell, we need a guy whose main strength is in coverage IMHO.
