During games I always see assistants of some kind spraying drinks into players mouths.

What's the deal with players not drinking their own drinks?

I've seen it with both helmets on and off.

    :confused2:

well honestly......holding the drinks could make their hands wet, or mess with the tacky on their gloves and they could not be able to get a good grip on the ball....

i think that could be why

I've always looked at it as there isn't time to go around looking for bottles that are labeled by name so the easiest way was to just squirt the water or gatorade in their mouth instead of putting their mouth on it and possibly getting someone sick later.

Yep, if you're a wide reciever holding a wet squeeze bottle of Gatorade, and suddenly get called into the game, it can effect your ability to hold onto the ball. And wearing gloves is just as bad, the condensation ruins the grip on the ball you can have.

Good question. I've always wondered the same thing.
