Well, between the two games, we can "afford" to lose to AZ over Cinci in terms of the Wildcard.

BUT, losing to the Jets hurt us, no mistake about it, however 25% of the season has not been played as of yet.

Agreed. Atleast we play the Jets again, it will be a lot tougher in New York but we have done that several times. We all know we are better than the Jets this year and they didn't beat us, we beat ourselves.

We are still alive! Time for Denver to beat New England, San Francisco to beat Buffalo and Housten to beat New York!

I still say we have a legitimate chance. Our schedule basically only gets easier from here. We get the Jets again who I think we can beat this time around due to numerous factors. Seattle doesn't scare me, neither do the Colts. We win at least one of those if not both. Then of course the Bills twice and they have looked pretty awful this year.

While I don't want to get my hopes up, they do have a chance. They have plenty of winnable games and really, there aren't that many good teams in the AFC right now. 9 wins could get you into the playoffs.

That's the entire AFC minus the Ravens, Texans and Patriots. Sorry I don't trust the Chargers/Broncos yet. Which is the only reason Miami has a chance. But that's okay, remember in 2002 and 2003 when they were good enough to make the playoffs if they were an NFC team, but missed in the tough AFC. Its how the NFL works.

Housten should have killed us for 60 minutes, they only killed us for a couple to few minutes. We beat them for at least 55 minutes. Carpenter lost us 2 games!
Yeah we will keep knocking out the mediocre teams but we will beat some tough ones to.

you're right about that. At the beginning of the season I was convinced they wouldn't be a problem. They have definitely lost a step but the ugly truth is that they are the best team in the AFC East so far. But they're declining and we are the team on the rise with the youngest QB!

Carpenter did not lose two games for the Dolphins. The entire team failed to make plays in those games and that is the reason the Dolphins lost. By your logic, the Dolphins should have lost the game today because the Rams kicker missed three FG's. The Rams also completely outplayed the Dolphins throughout most of the game today.

The fact is that none of that matters at the end of the game. All that matters is the final score and the final score shows that the Dolphins had more points than the Rams. Just as it showed the Cardinals and Jets had more points at the end of those games.

I would say that the odds were against Zuerline on two of his attempts. Carpenter's misses were situations where you would expect him to make at least a couple of those.

Basically following your logic had Carpenter made the kick and we win right there on the spot, game over, we still deserved to lose. That's silly.

The Rams did lose this game as opposed to us winning it. And if I was a Rams fan I would say the kicker lost that game. We still played good enough to beat the Rams and the refs. If the refs called this game accurately I would say We won this game as opposed to the Rams losing it. There is a difference. The refs gave the Rams every chance to win and their kicker choked 3 times. Different Refs would be a different score with us winning by more points than we did.

Most of my theory is based on Rams fans exalting their kicker that should have made every one of those kicks according to their claims before the game.

Just going to say for all the Carpenter/Zuerlin talk here. The field goal against the Jets DID lose us the game because it was an overtime kick which if it had gone in we would have won that second, not a few plays later. In the game today the misses that Zuerlin had were not in the last second (taking to the side of course the 66-yard field goal but nobody in history ahs made one that long) so even if he made either of those 2 field goals that game still could go either way.

No that is not what I stated. I merely pointed out that the game is won by the team which has the most points at the end of the game. The game is played by all 53 men on the roster for 60 minutes or more, depending on if the game goes into overtime. Blaming one player for a team losing a game is utterly ridiculous.

Exactly where you came to the conclusion that I would have felt they Dolphins would have deserved to lose if Carpenter had made those kicks, is beyond me. If he had made the kicks and the Dolphins had scored more points than the Jets and Cardinals, they certainly would have deserved the win. I just don't happen to blame Carpenter for those losses. Perhaps if the defense had made more plays in the game or the offense had scored TD's instead of attempting those FG's, the Dolphins would have won those games.

It's a team game and you win and lose as a team. Carpenter certainly didn't win the game today because he kicked one FG and the Dolphins won by 3 points. The Dolphins won today because they made enough plays on offense, defense, and special teams to end up with more points than the Rams when time ran out. That is the object of the game and today the Dolphins were successful. In their three losses this season they were not successful in putting more points on the board than their opponents and therefore that was a team failure, not an individual failure.

Fisher gave him that 66 yard field goal chance because he has made longer filed goals in practice according to their fans. But I understand what you're saying.

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't we miss 2 field goals in OT in our 2 losses? 1 in each game? I know that was the case for at least one of those games. That throws your some of your logic out the window. You are right when you say Carpenter didn't win this game just because we won by 3 points. But you are wrong when you say Carpenter didn't lose us a game. The fact is the team played good enough for the game to rest on Carpenter's shoulders. Specially when it OT field goals.

I don't know about choking when you are attempting a 66 yard FG. If he had made that FG, it would have been the longest FG in NFL history. The 52 yard FG attempt, with the wind blowing also was no easy FG attempt and one that is made less than 50% of the time by NFL kickers. His only easy attempt he missed was the one inside 40 yards and he certainly should have made that one.

So I will accept that the one inside the 40 yard line can be considered a choke. The other two, no way they were chokes.

keep in mind, the only thing i know about that kicker is that he was supposely good enough for a few Rams fans to come in here and basicly talk about nothing but their kicker being a god that can't miss any field goal and kicked 70 yarders in practice. I believe they said 70+ maybe up to 74 in practice. So their team put him in a position to make 3 makable field goals, therefore he choked 3 times IMO according to their own fans.
edit; if it wasn't for those Rams fans and we were talking about any other kicker I would agree with you.

I am happy to correct you. Carpenter did miss a 48 yard attempt in overtime against the Jets. In the loss to the Cardinals, Carpenter missed his FG's in regulation and he never was given the opportunity to try a kick in overtime of the Cardinals game.

If you want to blame Carpenter for those losses, there is nothing I can do about it. I just don't happen to put those losses on Carpenter. Since I feel the offense and defense could have played better in both those games and it would never have come down to a FG to begin with. I guess some people just have to blame someone for the loss by the entire team. The entire team won today and the entire team lost those two games earlier in the season, as far as I am concerned. You don't agree and I can live with that. Obviously the coaching staff and the front office agree with me, because Carpenter is still the Dolphins kicker at this time.

Than I change my statement to this. Carpenter lost us 1 game. If he made field goals in the other game we might have won but who knows. If you don't blame Carpenter for that 1 loss something is wrong with you.

Oh ok. I am sorry I have no reason to watch any Rams games unless they play the Dolphins. When people come to our stomping ground and talk about nothing but how perfect their kicker is, I have to assume their kicker is good.

There is only 5 teams ahead of us in the AFC if the season ended now we would be in the playoffs as the 6th seed according to that link that was posted earlier. Now I have 5 teams to keep an eye on and hope they lose games.

WOW, Patriots lose. So no matter what happens next week, the Dolphins will be alone in 2nd place ahead of the Jets or Patriots, whoever loses that game moves to 3-4. Unless the Bills win this overtime game and then win next week as well.
