    https://www.pushsquare.com/news/202...het_and_clank_returnal_for_first_half_of_2021

Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, and Returnal are listed as being "anticipated for first half 2021", while Horizon: Forbidden West is "anticipated for second half of 2021". So, while delays can and do happen, it looks like all four games are close. Other than Returnal, the other three are core games for me next year, after I play AC: Valhalla and possibly Cyberpunk.

Forbidden West will be the one to force my hand, even though I'll still be diligent in looking for a console after New Year's is over.

I tried and failed to get one at noon at Walmart. I put it in my cart as the second changed from 11:59 to 12:00, but when I tried to pay, the site complained that too many people were doing it at the same time, and I wasn't able to get it. I'll try again at 3, then 6 and 9. Fingers crossed.

As far as the games, Gran Turismo and Ratchet and Clank are core series for me, as is AC which will be my day one purchase, so its highly appealing for me.

Only Gran Turismo. I love the career mode. Start from the beginning, earn the different licenses (which can take me weeks to months for each edition), then use credits to buy a basic car and start racing. Then race after race after race, gradually buying and improving and customizing better cars along the way, finding ones that I'm fond of and keep.

Its a lot like playing GM in franchise mode of Madden or The Show in that way. I can't ever win races unless I have the best car on the track, so the fun is finding and building that best car, a lot like building up the best team in one of the sports.

Gotcha. It's a shame the Forza Horizon series isn't on Playstation. You'd probably really enjoy it.

I played Forza one evening with my sister's son when I visited them last year and liked it. Mostly watching him, but I got to play a little myself. If it was a multi platform title, I'd probably get it. One of the only XBOX exclusives I'd really be interested in.

Originally, Kena: Bridge of Spirits was supposed to be a launch title for the PS5. Then, it was delayed to Q1, 2021. Now, its been delayed a full year to Q4 of next year.

Tonight's online sales were gone within seconds, same as the previous ones were. Almost certainly in large parts due to bots and scalpers. This has been a disaster due to the retailers not caring if a real person is buying the system, and so they go straight to Ebay. It looks like most people who want to get their hands on a PS5 won't be able to do so until they're eventually physically in stores and the scalpers can't get their hands on all of them.

I've not seen anything from Sony yet, but IGN quotes one of the bosses at Microsoft as saying that they hope that supply can meet demand for the XBOX around April.

People must resist buying from these people. Make them squat on their supply until official retailers catch up. Then, it's all over for them and their "investment".

I just worry about wealthier parents looking to get their kids a PS5 no matter what and feeding into this scalping market, which screws ordinary gamers that just want a single console to.. you know.. keep and play.

Edit: Retailers also need to figure out better verification methods vs. bots. I'd assume it's less actual robots going through the checkout system and more of a script that sends out notifications when the stock is up but I could be wrong. I'm not sure you can curtail it and I'm not sure they want to.

One thing these console makers can do is stop releasing consoles so deep into autumn so they're supply can catch up in time for the holidays if scalpers are going to continue to be a problem. Hell, if they time it right, they could crush their Q3 and Q4 numbers.

I completely agree with you, but Sony & Microsoft, the Retailers and Ebay don't seem to care at all as long as the units get sold.

Oh I think Sony & Microsoft care. The more consoles sitting in the garage of a scalper, the less first-party peripherals, PS Plus/XBL memberships, and actual games are bought by normal people.

They stand to gain more money overall with their consoles in as many households as possible. They can be rest assured knowing that, scalpers or not, their consoles are going to sell out right away. These things get released every 5-10 years and people have no qualms investing in something like that- so I do think they have a motive in trying to decentralize the pipeline, so to speak. There is too much collateral sales to be gained and it behooves them as a company to try to wring that out.

Then why didn't they take any measures to try and ensure that the consoles ended up in as many gamers' hands as possible? There was talk over the Summer that Sony would require a login using your PSN account, and limit sales to one per household. This was the expectation for many people who'd been following it closely all year long. Then they just released the preorders on the wild and we've got what we've got.

I don't think any of them anticipated how bad the reselling market would be, and you've seen measures put in place on both the retailers' and console manufacturers' behalf since the issue has seen the spotlight. Both companies have had to respond to supply issues lobbied by vehement gamers since launch day. I don't think they want that.

Too little too late? Probably. Will they do something extra or different for the next console release? I would expect it.

Well, we'll see what the world and the gaming market look like seven or eight years from now. People were hoping that due to what the gaming world saw happen with the shortages with the Switch this year, a system that's been on the market for several years, that the other two would be proactive and try to prevent the scalpers from doing the same thing with the new consoles. It seemed pretty likely to me and a lot of other people.

I had a PS5 preorder through my local GameStop, #2 on the list, so I just went down at 10AM on launch day and picked it up, along with an extra controller, charging station, and a copy of Spider-Man MM.

Sony sent me the PS4 camera adapter a couple days later. Still have yet to set up the PSVR though, such a mess of cables I don't want to deal with right now.

Am I blown away by the PS5? Not really. No Man's Sky has been the most fun for me, the PS5 version is smooth, quick load times, great draw distance, cool new haptic feedback. I did have to start over with a new save for the PS5 version though. I can still switch back to my PS4 saves while playing on the PS5 though and still have better graphics -they just split the PS4 and PS5 players, which kind of makes sense given the vastly different capabilities between console generations.

I'll be playing a lot of PS4 games on my PS5 going forward. I have yet to play my copies of Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, and Spider-Man (the first one). Pretty much ANY of my PS4 games will get played on my PS5 actually.

It can't be said enough, this console is HUGE. I have it laying horizontal since I have cats that would find a way to knock it down otherwise (though the stand is pretty solid).

I suspect Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be a hot mess when it launches, so I'll hold off until they patch it up and then play it on my PS5 when they have an update for it. Horizon Forbidden West will be my first 'must have' game. Well, that and whatever football game 2K Sports releases in 2021.

I won't hesitate with either game, despite the expected $70 price. I'd pay $100 for an improved/updated version of All Pro Football 2K8, but 2K now having the NFL license will be a nice bonus. My expectations are for a fairly basic football game, with Franchise mode to be added in 2022.

At a standard $70 price point though, I'll be more hesitant to buy games, unless I'm certain I'll like them. With the rise of digital sales, the developers are making more money anyway, having cut out the middleman, so the $10 price hike is highly questionable. New IPs are going to struggle, except maybe most of the Sony studios with solid track records.

The price increase is strictly a reflection of certain game developers' increasing marketing budgets, which has no bearing on the actual game we're purchasing and playing. It's such bull****. Like you said, evidence would lead us to believe that games, now more than ever, should actually be cheaper than $60 than more.

Well, at least games haven't increased in price for quite a while until now. They were basically flat through the whole PS3 and PS4 cycles. And honestly, if you're willing to wait a little while, most of the time you can snag a game at about $40 within a few months of release as well.

Depending on how long it takes me to snag a PS5, I might be buying games that have been on the market for a few months for a long time to come. The side benefit to that is that you get a lot of the patches and whatnot before you play as well.

I think that I've only bought one game new at full price in the last two years or so. That was Ghost of Tsushima, which is also the only digital game I've ever bought at launch due to the pandemic.

Not a PS5, but I managed to get a Xbox Series X on Walmart's website last Thursday. Was not supposed to ship until like Jan 14th, but to my surprise it shipped yesterday and arrived today.

Currently transferring as many games as I can from my old Xbox One X to avoid redownloading as much as I can.

Only turned on Destiny 2 for a bit so far and seems to feel quite a bit different. Everything is sharper, more detailed, and loads a hell of a lot faster.

That's awesome, man! I'm glad you were able to find one. I've basically given up hope on a PS5 for the time being. Rushing online every time that I hear that they're in stock, doing everything right, and then getting beaten out by the bots time after time has worn me down over the last few months. I'm just going to throw in the towel until they're more readily available.

I am going to unbox the Switch that I bought for my family tomorrow, so I'll have some new games to play there, if I can find time when my kids aren't using it themselves. :chuckle:

Yea, someone in my Destiny guild happened to post in chat about a restock a few hours early, and I was on at the time (3pm) and it sold out basically as I clicked "add to cart". I was frustrated but then notice it said it would restock again at 3:10pm, and I got one in that batch.

I had certainly resigned to not getting one until next year, but I happened to have time to try without really going out of my way, which hadn't been the case during most other announced restocks.

Things are worse than ever when it comes to launch and near-launch systems. The online sales are so vulnerable to bots and scalpers. If not for the pandemic, I'd suggest Sony try and sell more systems 'in person' only by shipping them to Gamestop and box stores like Walmart and Best Buy. No online sales, just show up to get one.

Employees will contact friends though so they show up early, and Gamestop seems to be only selling consoles as part of a bundle purchase (an extra controller and a game at least).

As long as scalpers can grab the majority of consoles, they can keep the demand at a high level; until enough gamers finally get their console and production increases enough to flood the market. I doubt most scalpers want to risk having several hundred consoles horded if the demand is going to drop, but worst case is probably they have to sell them at $50 profit instead of $500.

Apparently, Sony plans to manufacture at least 15m units in 2021. We'll see if it ever hits a point where it becomes too much. For the scalpers.

Sony has now admitted that while they hope to produce 3 million more PS5s by April of this year, and an additional 14 million in the year following that (May 2021-April 2022), that restraints on parts that are needed and issues due to the pandemic will likely mean that they don't meet those goals. I appreciate that they are finally showing a little bit of openness and contrition, and not just driving the hype train full speed without paying any attention to the reality of the situation.

However, it still seems that they refuse to acknowledge the immense issue that scaplers are causing actual gamers getting consoles into their hands.

Now more rumors today that Horizon FW will be a late 2021 Holiday release at best, and could also be pushed into 2022. Not shocking, and I have to think that some of these choices are being made so that Sony can wait until more people actually own a PS5, and maximize the sales of the game at full price. Its a logical choice. Why only sell 1 million copies at $70 and then millions more at half off later if you can sell 5m at full price by waiting?

Several stories out today that the rate that PS5 can get manufactured and sent out to be bought won't improve over the next year. What a kick in the pants.
