    Far from a Catholic, yet close to being one, I found this video featuring The Litany of Saints, an ancient Christian Hymnal...pretty much Outstanding.

    Pope John Paul II reminds me of my earthly Father who ran into mental issues, so for me, this is a quite amazing...especially if one savvy's Latin..

    Christ, hear us.
    Christ, graciously hear us.
    Lord, have mercy.
    Christ, have mercy.
    Lord, have mercy.

    Our Father, etc. (inaudibly).

    V. And lead us not into temptation.
    R. But deliver us from evil.

    [psalm69]

    Deign, O Lord, to rescue me;
    O Lord, make haste to help me
    Let them be put to shame and confounded who seek my life.
    Let them be turned back in disgrace who desire my ruin.
    Let them retire in their shame who say to me, "Aha, aha!"
    But may all who seek you exult and be glad in you,
    And may those who love your salvation say ever, "God be glorified!"
    But I am afflicted and poor;
    O God, hasten to me!
    You are my help and my deliverer;
    O Lord, hold not back!

    Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
    As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

    Save your servants.
    Who trust in you, O my God.
    Be a tower of strength for us, O Lord,
    Against the attack of the enemy.
    Let not the enemy prevail against us.
    And let not the son of evil dare to harm us.
    O Lord, deal not with us according to our sins.
    Neither requite us according to our iniquities.

    Let us pray for our Sovereign Pontiff N.
    The Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.
    Let us pray for our benefactors.
    Deign, O Lord, for Your name's sake, to reward with eternal life all those who do us good. Amen.
    Let us pray for the faithful departed.
    Eternal rest give to them, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon them.
    May they rest in peace.
    Amen.

    V. For our absent brethren.
    R. Save your servants, who trust in you, my God.
    V. Send them help, O Lord, from your sanctuary.
    R. And sustain them from Zion.

    V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
    R. And let my cry come to you.
    V. The Lord be with you.
    R. And with your spirit.

    I am not Catholic and I am not fluent but I think John Paul was one of the greatest men to have ever lived in my life time. I also include Martin Luther King, Gandhi, theDali Lama and very few others in that group.

    Thanks for the video bro.

    Well Celt my man, Ratzinger is visting the US, and in the US serious or even backsliden Catholic's are generally not given much respect, I thought that it would be very appropriate to post a JP II video on the eve of the visit by the Pope.

    Now granted, Religious Freedom is under assualt by our "good friends" the ChiComs, and the Dalai Lama may be spoken for by proxy by the Pope, yet even still, the US is home to some 60 million nominal Catholics....

    The last I heard, the RCC was trying to move up the time table to make him a Saint, but I also thought that he had been beautafied, a sort of intermediate step..

    Much of that litany is prayed every year on Good Friday by Christians throughout the world. In Lutheran circles in North America, it is known as the Bidding Pray because an assisting minister bids (that is invites) the congregation to pray for each of the issues mentioned.

    Every time I perform a Baptism, I tell the party that the words of the Apostles' creed (which is the profession of faith in which we Baptize) is essentially the same words used for 1700+ years and around the world in nearly every baptism. The Church, at its best and most faithful, is a community both throughout time and globe encircling.

    These ancient liturhgical forms remind us of our connectedness, one to the other, and throughout time. Thanks for posting it here.
