Yeah...I thought he wasn't going to talk anymore. Now the Panthers want to score 50. SHUT THE **** UP already Porter. Be more like Zach Thomas was and let your talking be said by your play on the field.

He's not really talking smack Sick. He's just saying the offense should ONLY need to score 17 points, because the defense should do their jobs. Seems like a motivational thing more than anything else. The title is misleading.

Yeah I don't think he's targetting anyone. He's basically, if anything, saying that him and the defense have been giving it up, without even getting taken out to dinner. And he realizes that, and if they do their thing, 17 points of offense SHOULD get the job done.

I wish Joey would talk less, but still.....
Just picture Delhomme's next interview. I think it goes something like this:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lk-wWUQKBg"]YouTube- Tom Brady is an idiot.[/ame]

I really don't understand the idea that teams are going to play the game significantly different because people say something before the game. That isn't how it works. It's not like Joey Porter pointing out that Tom Brady has lobbied for, and got pretty pathetic penalties(Which is the truth) didn't result in them beating us.

I know Joey has a big mouth, but I see no sense in jumping on every word he says.
IMO, he just sounded like he was praising Henne and saying the D had to step up and do a better job.

Exactly, he's just saying the D's goal is to hold the opponent under 17, etc. From the headline, I thought he was saying something like, "Carolina ain't scoring more than 17 on us, no way," etc.

I think it just gives the other team in any case an additional motive to try and prove him wrong. I mean the same thing has happened with me this season, I hate the Jets but more so this season to try and make Fat a** swallow his words and learn to be humble, that's just me though. I love Joey and he is a great player he just needs to hang out with Ricky a bit more and learn to be quite.

I had the same STFU thoughts when I read the thread title, but if you actually take the time to read the article he is not talking about this specific game. He's taking a cold, hard, and honest look at the play of the defense and saying IF they had a good defense the offense would only need to score 17.

The thing is...he shouldn't be saying anything at all. His play hasn't backed up anything he has said and it hasn't helped the team one bit. To even make a statement that can be taken one way or another is a mistake on his part...a huge mistake. Especially when you just took the lumps that he just took for his Brady comments.

Right now his mouth is writing checks that his body/ability can't cash.

Who are we to say what a grown man should, or should not do? I mean we see with Ricky, the NFL forcing him to talk. What makes you think Porter is exempted from that? he's really just doing his job.

lol Some of you guys need to lay off the coffee and whatever else has you so fired up.

All he said was that Henne has been playing well enough that our D should be able to close out games for us.

    Anyone disagree with that?

He's not talking trash about the Panthers. He's talking confidence about his own defense.

    Huge difference.

Because every time we see his name in the media, we cringe. Because mostly all he does is embarrass himself, and worst of all.......US.

What he said in this article was no problem at all. However, IMO Porter is at a point where he should be forced by the FO to give nothing more than a Ricky Williams style interview.

He really does need to just STFU.......

he's saying thats all the offense should have to score, because the defense should hold the other team to less then that. in other words hes saying the d needs to stop giving up the big plays/ scores.

If JP & JT are washed up. Where's all the supposed back-ups to help the D? If their non-factors, then we'd be in trouble whether JT & JP were here or not.
I don't think we're contradicting at all. I think we're trying to win games for a change.
It bothers me that some of you think our coaches and fo are so dumb they can't put a team together. As I've said before. This is the first time I've had a lot of hope and confidence in our organization.

i don't know would you rather have the one guy carrying our defense now? youth is great, but like all things it has its good points and its bad points. you will always need a mix. now would you rather have a veteran who i don't know is a couple years removed from dpoy and another who is a year removed from a career season, to lead the rest of the team, or would you rather just trade them all away and hope like hell the young guys find their way? I would think you would want to give the young guys as many resources as possible.

most of the time what porter says is not provocative.

the problem is that it is porter saying it. while his observations might be astute, i'd rather him not say them at all, just by virtue of the media attention his every word gets.
